My 2 cents --- I had the same problem , brake pedal way to high .. Ended up backing my front brake shoes off just a little allowing the pedal more free play before shoe contact on drums .. Then adjusted my brake light / pedal stop forward to allow shoe release from drum so brakes were'nt...

I'm pretty sure that is the spring to hold your jack down in the trunk .. There is no spring on the brake pedal .. That is pushed back by the master cylinder ..

Only thing not stock is it has a square back alt. 1968 Barracuda.. worked good for 2 yrs . Now over charging.. lifetime regulator on it .. maybe life is done ???

Alternator appears to be over charging..Stock gauge show needle mid range between straight up and buried .. top of battery is damp and I need to add acid every 500 miles or so .. regulator is 1 year old

your motor looks to be orange in the front and blue in the back . ???

I started in 1973 at 16 with a 68 340 4 speed . In 2016 I bought and restored a 68 383 4 speed .. Ah to be young again. Lol

Mr Gasket 4 speed shifter with all rods and mounting plates bolts and bushings .. 400$ plus shipping..

Take it off at the tranny connection .. put a drill on the cable and spin it while watching the speedo . you may have pushed to far up and in that it's not connecting to the tranny gear .

I think rather than unscrewing the instrument panel , loosen the fuse box and slip your arm up behind the panel .. mine snaps on . Others may screw on ..

Maybe I did it wrong but I took the three bolts out at the firewall . Not the two bolts .. The column came right out . Agreed you must fiddle with the coupler ..
