    4 spd Installation tricks

I can just see that grease slinging around in there. I'm sure you meant VERY LIGHTLY greased.

Inland shifter rods versus Hurst - a difference?

I only cut what was necessary. I didn't get to know Ronnie until '68 and I never had any experience with the '67 car. I remember when Ronnie and Jake installed a verti-gate shifter and Ronnie didn't like any big holes. It basically fit like the Super Shifter with lock out. Ronnie didn't like...

Inland shifter rods versus Hurst - a difference?

I've always been a pedal car man. My '68 Hemi Roadrunner came new with an Inland shifter and it just didn't cut it in that car. I replaced it with a Hurst Competition Plus and it gave a more solid positive feel and a shorter throw. With the Inland, my fist would hit the dash on hard power...

    4 spd Installation tricks

Wouldn't it be great if the 833s were full aluminum case. I've done that "bench press" method a few times and it wasn't fun....but I did do it. If you have read my thread, "Dis my ride", you'll see a story where I had to recruit a very strong friend to help me put the 4-spd back in my Hemi...

    Pro stock A body 4spd ??

I have used these transmissions in my M/P cars back in the day and they were great on the track. They work well under full power *****. They are nearly impossible to downshift! You have to come to a complete stop to get it into another gear. It only goes one way...UP through the gears. The...

    4 Speed 2nd Gear Question ?

Be sure to check that side cover and the detent mechanism. I've seen this before but every time it was a bent or twisted shift fork. The first-second syncro slider is a big heavy thing with half of reverse gear riding on it and it takes more force to power shift that 3-4. If a brass syncro...

    Clutch Adjustment?

Hayes clutches have been the best I have ever used. I have a Hayes 11" Borg & Beck outfit in my 4-speed Pro Street Demon. I also have a 4-speed 340 '72 Demon. In that car, I had unwittingly installed a pressure plate that had "roller assist". Those damned things may be good in some truck but...

    current price on an A body 440 , 4 speed ?

What is called a "Hemi 4-speed" is an 833. It is instantly recognizable by the 1" x 18-spline input shaft. These were not a factory production item in any of the A-body cars except for those Hurst-built hemi Barracudas and Darts of 1968. The hemi 4-speed WAS used in the B and E-bodies that...

    360 A833 flywheel?????????

A 360 is external balanced as are the newer 318s. You can buy a new flywheel from Summit or Mancini, etc. About the only way you will find a used one is from a wrecked Dodge Ram 1500. I have the factory specs and engineering drawing of the placement of the 3 balance holes so if you have an...

    Stuck in first.

I have had this happen once. It wasn't the trans or shifter. What happened was that one of the eye bolts in the B&B pressure plate broke. It allowed the pressure plate to remain clamped onto the disc with sufficient pressure to lock it up. It may not be your probably but it's worth a check.

    Where is reverse?...

A '67 2-door post coupe is sure hard to find these days! Good for you! You got some very good responses from Mopar fans too. A '71 Cuda is an E-body and your '67 is an A-body. The E-body 4-speed is not user friendly in an A-body because of the mount and the length of the tailhousing. The...

who is the manufacture of the 833

Yes, they were built by New Process. Funny name though. You can learn everything about them on BigBlockDart.com Something you might want to look into is a factory setup for hydraulic actuated clutch. My '95 Dakota Magnum V-6 has that set up with the 5-speed. If you could find one in a bone...

wanted info on aluminum case OD trans

It is really nice to see the interest in these overlooked OD 4-speeds. It was just great in my '69 Dart as I said earlier. The 360 I had in it had fully ported and polished X heads with big stainless valves, a hot Hughes solid lifter cam and kit, Crane roller rockers (1.6 intakes), ported RPM...

wanted info on aluminum case OD trans

I have used the OD 4-speeds with great success and I can tell you first hand that they will take a lot more than people give them credit for. I recently sold my '69 Dart 360 with one of those trannys I beat the hell out of for 6-years! The car had a narrowed 8-3/4, mini-tubbed and used Moser...
