    put the gear back in the same position.if you don't, it wont work. look at the position( numbers and slots) and put it back on the same marks.

    and don't forget the trans mount. if it is shot, the end of the trand has a tendance to vibrate. i've had this happen more than once.

    i recently aquired this gem. knowns are, pre 71(side plate and shifter rods prove it). also the tail shaft housing only has one shifter mount point. and it is the long shaft. with a splined end(no yoke).what do we have here?

    i'm not going to poo-poo the greens until i have a difinitive answer. i'm going to call my contact at timken and see if they have any data on the side load. my brother and his buddy in texas build several rears every year and i think they use nothing but green. if timken says that they are ok...

    goldduster 318, at the risk of sounding like a wise acre, where did you hear that. just curious. i've been to skf, timken and bca's bearing classes, and never heard that. i'm a millwright by trade and thats aa new one on me.

    no one mentioned stall? curious. i'll bite then. someone recomend a stall.i say 3500 to 4000. thets just me. my 340 has a 10" 4000 against a 3.91 and it is too much fun.

    unless you rebuild with a sealed(green) bearing. which is what i reccomend.

    8 3/4 manand if you are just gonna cruise it and not go 200 miles a day go 3.91. it'll make ya feel tuff.
