    better off finding right backing plates 7 1/4 backing plates dont fit been there done that the rest is the same .... hosing flange is different 4 hole verse 5 hole 5 hole is bigger not by much ... just better to do it right the first time

    sounds like to me you need to pull it apart an take a look ... axles must come out those bearing can be hard to see ..if ok put some grease in them before installing ...keeps them from running dry till gear lube gets there ... the center section only three bearing's in it the pinion bearing...

    look into a dacco i got one for a 904 32 to 35 hundred stall drive like normal till till you need the converter price around 300$ .... its been in the car and working great for a little over a year with no issues what so ever .... i no not baby it ....i didnt built for that ... mash the gas...

    i think thats steep 2000$ even 1500$ lets see new trans kit 175.00 with new bands kevlar at that ....trans shift kit say 150.00 converter 2200 which is a /6 truck converter maybe 100.00 .... i just bought a 3500 for 297.00 new street strip. drives normal till the foot does its work...

    no moser re-hardens them but figure all in shipping ,to, from ,work done which is less expensive........i mean to tell you im one of the cheapest sob's. i look an save parts horse trade but as far as axles go , i up the creek with out a paddle ... i.ve been going through this since the 70's but...

    Moser told me that send them to them an they would do it for a 110$ shorten an respline i need it for the bolt pattern .... then got to looken at there site buy the time i ship to them an ship back an pay to have the work done ..... im better off buying a set ... they make 2 different...

    trail an error is all i can say an some help from friends along the way .... trans kits i get from dacco they have warehouse's all over just ck the internet the main plant is in tenn. good prices my last one i put kevlar band's in they where 25 an 45 each an a trans kit was less then a hundred...

    here's the secret /6 trk converter .... used them for years when no one use 904's they will flash about 2200 behind a v8 .... i ve none this since the early 80's .... or you can call dacco transmissions they built me a nice 3200 to 3500 stall for under 3 hundred $ it drives normal it will flash...

    you need a /6 904 truck converter .... go down to your local trans warehouse ...been using them for a long time as long as you dont have a big cam they work great ... the last one i bought was around 50 $may be more now that was 6 or 7 years ago ......hope it helps ....

    c body axles an backing plates nice way to go 11" drums 2 to 2 1/2" shoes .... getting ready to do that swap my self .... machine shop re-spline an cut to length 75$ ... then going to move whole diff back 1 1/2" an in 3'' as to be able to get some tire under it ....

    this is right up my alley lol i have use them for years .( about 40 years) i used 170 /6 there ok 225/6 trk convertors there better but getting hard to fine in the reman warehouses use to get them for 35 to 40 dollars a bit more now ............. i use to an still do have a few on the shelf...

    i dont want to sound like a dick but by the time you have done all this measuring an drawing on the computer.the tranny could have been on the bench. then you could have seen your problem first hand.... match the correct flex plate, mark it with some paint. so you dont have to fumble around...

    make sure gear select is not between gears ,detents,be sure if your using like a b&m shifter that you have the trans arm for a B&M . the 904 is a good trans been using them for years they are harder to fine convertors for than 727 but not that much any more lots of people using them now, not...
