    Time to Fix It Right

I've been a member here since I got my 73 Duster back in 2009 as a high school senior. Kind of hard to believe I've had her for 11 years already! We've had some awesome times including a 10-day road trip down Route 66 when I moved to CA for grad school and having her as my daily driver for my...

    Help with new gauge setup

Hi guys, I'm planning to install an aftermarket water temp gauge on my car. The engine is a 360, stock cast iron manifold. While I'm at it I was thinking I'd add an oil pressure gauge, if it's not much more of a hassle. Was thinking of going with mechanical gauges for simplicity. Are any of...

    Fan Clutch alignment

Hi guys, In preparation for putting a thicker radiator in my car, I swapped the stock fan clutch to the Hayden 2765 that's been discussed on FABO a lot. I used the included bushing when installing it, however, the engagement between the shaft at the end of the water pump and the recessed hole...

    Belt rubbing water pump

Anyone ever had problems on a 360 with the alternator belt rubbing against the water pump housing? Is it a tension thing, wrong alternator bracket, wrong belt size, or all of the above? I'll try to get a picture up later today - the corner of the belt's just being slowly chafed off by one of the...

    What am I looking at?

Been trying to troubleshoot a vacuum leak / really horrible idle so I had the carb off the car today. I never looked real close but just under the carb there's this bolt like thing on one side, and a straight up hole in the other. What the heck are these for?

    Torquing Intake Manifold

It's been a while since I posted anything, but I've had some low vacuum at idle problems and I'm thinking I may need to tighten down the intake manifold. The one bolt I could get at was definitely a fair bit away from the proper torque (45 ft-lbs in my Haynes book), my question is how the heck...

    Carbon Buildup in Carb

Anyone know what would cause this? The car idles very rough, drops vacuum below ~1000 rpm, and I can't get it to idle in drive without having the idle in park around 1200 rpm. I'm still trying to get to the bottom of it. Have the valve covers off right now to see if anything is obviously bad...

    Rocker arm play

I had the oil filler cap off today and while I was at it I decided to stick a screwdriver in and check the play on the rocker arm that's under the cap. I was able to move it about 1/16 inch back and forth along the rocker shaft, which seems like a lot of play. That's just a rough guess based on...

    Carb Tuning / Vacuum Problems?

I don't think my carb is tuned right and my engine isn't running as well as it seems like it should. I got a new Holley 670 cfm Street Avenger carb this winter and I'm using it on the stock spreadbore manifold with an adapter. When I first got the carb, it worked pretty well right out of the...

    Motor Mounts

I'm trying to put in my new exhaust and it won't fit, it looks like the engine is not sitting high enough off of the K-member so I'm guessing I need new motor mounts. Where do I get some? Not sure if there are a lot of differences but this is a 360 out of a 75 on a 73 Duster. Here's a picture of...

    Timing for a Magnum 280H

What should my initial timing be on a 360 with a comp cams Magnum 280H? My idle is 1200 or so in park, any less and it dies going into gear, and I think the vacuum advance might be kicking in a bit by then, but the spark fluctuates a fair amount too so it's hard to nail down to 1 or 2 degrees.

    Carburetor dual feed leaking

I got a new carb and installed it today, its a Holley 670 cfm Street Avenger. I got the dual-feed from Holley, part number 34-150 I think, and it leaks pretty badly. Most of it is out of the back line, the secondaries. I read somewhere that this dual feed is prone to leaking, is there anything I...

    Spark plug reading

I'm putting on a new carburetor, so while I was at it, I pulled some of the spark plugs to take a look at how the car was running. What do these say about how the engine was running? I'm not really sure how to "read" a spark plug, I have the guide in the back of the Haynes manual but that's it...

    Need more pedal travel?

I was playing around with the thermoquad today, and discovered that flooring the gas, I can only get the secondaries about a quarter open. I had my dad sit in the car and floor it, i made sure the choke was kicked off (sorry if my terminology is bad. I'm talking about the knob/flathead screw on...

    New Heads?

Hey guys, I will be looking for some HP improvements for my Duster here soon. I don't have the space to pull the motor so I was hoping for something I can do in the car. Here's the specs now: 360 engine (from a 75) Stock heads I think. Comp Cams Magnum 280H Thermoquad carb Stock intake mani...

New '73 Duster, need some help!

Hey everyone, I just bought a new 73 Duster about a month ago. It's in pretty good shape for the 5200 bucks I paid for it, but I do want to get it running a little better and fix up a couple of problems it had or has developed. First off, I can't start it from inside the car anymore. If I...
