1964 Valiant "Get Runnin & Drivin"

-
Puzackly. I had MORE than my fair share through the 80s and 90s with dealership suspension and engine work. EXAMPLE: Rack and pinion replacement in a Ford Aerostar.......AWD. Get you some of that and you'll be happy to yank a slant out of a 64 Valiant. lol
I just swapped and engine on a 2007 Ford taurus.
They assemble the whole driveline on the sub frame and lower the body over it all so some bolts are impossible to get to without dropping the sub frame. I took the front bumper and headlights off for more access.

Yeah, sometimes you cannot get around how the factory did it. I remember on some of the Ford vans we had to remove the 4 front body to frame bolts and jack the front of the van OFF the frame to get to the two front upper shock bolts. It wasn't on all of them, but a few. It was right in the factory service manual...and there was no other way to do it. I could cut the old ones off with a small 90 degree wiz wheel, but there was no way in hell to get the new ones on without jacking the body up. No way, no how. "Ford, quality is job one" lol

....one of the girls at the O'Reilly where I worked is after me to work on her husband's 99 Chevy truck with a 74 small block 400 in it. Ain't no way, senioreeter. No tellin what all has been chopped, cut and butchered....and "HE'S" been workin on it. I know them......and "HE" is as much of a mechanic as I am a brain surgeon. She actually knows more about vehicles than he does. ........which ain't much, either.

Sorry I was trying to quote halfafish with my best Bill Engvall voice but the quote wouldn't attach

Gotchya. I like that guy. He's funny......and clean funny.

Haha, I gotcha both. My backyard is a disaster AND the shop is a wall to wall, floor to ceiling shithole. Including the side room. When you have to move a dozen things to get at what you need, or have to slither down sideways down the aisle because there's so much crap everywhere you can't walk straight forwards, you know you have truly arrived.
Have you pulled that motor and tranny yet?.. you know the first thing you should have done....

You mean halfafish is clean funny??

I don't know halfafish other than fabo but I can tell he's a cool and righteous dude. I would say "groovy" to match " righteous" but groovy gets on my nerves after i saw some idiot use it.

Here's Vixen all back together and runnin. I was going to take the camera with us into Gray but I forgot it. When we go into town next time, I will let Kitty shoot a video. It's a real hoot to drive. It shifts a lot better too, with the Z bar bushings and the shifter bushings replaced.

Now I'm really confused, where's the 4 hunnit ?

No. Bill Engval.

Far out.

I wanted to say, this should be a note to all you guys who routinely whine and cry about pulling the engine in these cars to remove the oil pan. Hell, I'm disabled with terrible health problems, Kitty is worse off than I am, yet we got it done. Had I had all the parts layin in front of me, it would have been three days. Had this been 15 years ago and I didn't have to wait on parts, in one Saturday. These cars are not hard to work on. I slide under the front on my creeper and looked....maybe 20 seconds and said "screw it, it's comin out" and just started pullin bolts. and I caint stand "but I don't have an engine hoist, blah blah blah, bullshit, bullshit, bullshit"......go borrow or rent one. If you own one of these old girls, you need to be in for a penny and in for a pound. The only exceptions might be if you live somewhere in a horrible HOA or in an apartment complex......but that's you're mistake. If my tore up decrepit old *** can do it, all of yall can too.

As some old Southern man told his wife " I don't want to hear the labor pains...I want to hold the baby"!!!!?? ll

Drove Vixen up on ramps today and slid under to inspect everything. I've driven her a good little bit since the job and the oil pan is slap dry as a bone. no dampness anywhere. Nothing around the timing cover seal or rear main seal. Nothing. Almost made my little pecker get hard.

I was good till the last sentence. Because of that I could not like, agree or thanks without making **** weird. lol

Just a little curious Rusty. With 63,722 post how in the hell do you find time to work on your car?

We just went to town and Kitty shot a video the whole way. Waitin for it to upload from the camera now and then I'll upload it to youtube. That's gonna be a bit though.

I had no idea a B engine would fit in an early A so well. There was a member on Moparts that lived close to me (DemonSizzler) that had a '64 or 5 Barracuda with a 440 in it and it looked really tight. Build that stroker for my sons car and put the 383 he has in it now into an A if I can find one.

Yeah they will fall right in and bolt in with no exhaust on them. Bolt any type of exhaust manifold on and you have issues. Much less so with the low deck. I believe the C body manifolds will either fit or require mods on the driver's side. I am pretty sure the passenger's side will fall in. I plan on finding out. I'll put it like this. It's goin in there one way or the other.

Ok as promised, here is the trip to Gray in Vixen. Just listen to the torque of the leanin tower of power. lol

Fyi - click on the vid, go to youtube on the tv, go to Library, watch on the big screen, cool.
Love the steering wheel and red interior.
Does the wheel have a bit of a sticky feel?
Mine does, kinda like it.

I thought it might, as humid as it stays here, but no it does not. I am kinda glad.
