1969 Dart Street/Strip (Re)Build

-
The day I've been waiting for for a long time. Engine builder dropped by and we fired the car up for the first time. It started right off the bat and ran excellent. I will have to say that it's a bit louder than I thought it would be but that's not a problem at all. Trying to process a video now and upload it. The audio doesn't do it justice but you'll get the idea. I'm just happy it runs. Only problem we had was that we found out the powermaster alternator was dead. It wasn't charging at all. So I'll have to pull that off and get it fixed. Other than that things look good this far. I'm having issues with my brake lines wanting to leak on me though. I thought i had then tight but I got some brake line wrenches and tightened more. The leak slowed but still there. Any thoughts on that?

Here's the video

Sounds real good!!

Damn did you paint the car too? It's bling, bling!

Thanks Louis! Nope same paint as when I bought it. Like you, I pretty much bought a paint job when I bought the car. Lol

nice work man, lots of time & money into it, you can tell!

Yes lots and lots of both. The money part, I haven't added it up but never will cause I seriously hate to know what that number is!

Got a quick turnaround on the alternator repair. It was a bad regulator. All fixed now though. 105 amp advertised and puts out 113 amps. Advertises 70 amps at idle. Will be plenty for my use.

Yet another problem with a new part. Tried to bleed the brakes and could not get the brakes to firm up. Bled and bled and bled. Nothing but a pedal that goes to the floor. Took the master cylinder off and it was leaking around the plunger. Put it on the bench and attempted to bench bleed it. Damn thing was sucking air somehow and the lines would never clear. Bad master cylinder turns out. Brand new from Dr Diff too. Now I look on his site and he's out until the 18th. I am left with no choice but to find a replacement from elsewhere. All I'm saying is the guy better refund my money. So sick of all these new parts being total ****. It's getting old.

Got her out for a little bit of driving. Have about 15 miles on the odometer now. My fan kept running without the key being on. Turned out to be a bad relay (another bad part brand new out of the box). Reset my gauges add well as some other odds and ends. One thing to check is your lug nuts! I sniffed the lugs a few weeks ago when the car was off the ground. Well when I went for my first run I completely forgot that they were not torqued. I nearly lost my front wheel. 4 nuts backed off and the one left banged around hard enough to spin the stud in the rotor, thus not allowing the wheel to completely come off. Man was I lucky! Cut the head of the nut off and installed a new rotor and now back in business. I was so pisses that I checked everything else yet overlooked the simplest and basic of things.

So the new gears I have in the car seem to whine a lot. Mostly under deceleration. They are Richmond 4.10's. Is that normal?

Been there, done similar things. Don't sweat it. We are all just human.
Not sure on the whine, likely normal with those gears. I think what I hear most is the fuel pump?
You've done some nice work.

Nice! Glad to see it back on the prowl!

FYI - - I can see your grin all the way to your ear when your looking forward! hahahaaa

Yes the fuel pump is quite loud. It is the dominant sound inside the car.

i had same problem then i made a rubber insulator for the fuel pump mount. it quiets it way down.

Thats actually what I was planning on doing once I could find a suitable piece of rubber to use. Figured it had to be better than what it's doing now

im sure someone will correct me on this if im wrong but the whine from the rear is caused by how the pinion is engaged into the ring gear, it can be because the gears are engaging too much or not enough, but i was always told it never hurts to be a little deep but you dont want the gears to be riding on the edge. did you pattern the ring and pinion?

I had a shop do it and they said that they liked the way it was set up. I can only take their word on that. Just think it's weird how it's really only noticeable on deceleration

You want a quiet fuel pump...... Walbro GSL-392 is the answer! $95.00 and good to over 600WHP on a carb set up.

Opposite gear faces making contact. Quieter during acceleration is good I'd say.

A long as it has plenty of contact no need to worry, our car with 4.56 gears whines too, not quite as bad as yours but close, and the poor car get tourtured every time its out and shes still holdin up
