Don’t be embarrassed, we all know you’re working on a new combination and changing it up quite a bit and anyone who’s drag raced knows there is plenty of ways to go slow. It’s a process and you’re right in the beginning of it, no shame in that.

Stan tell me again what cam is in the car?

ST-21 Racer Brown.
Installed at 103 Intake Center Line.
.520 I&E
254 @ .050 I&E

My Barracuda ran faster with this cam years ago.
Moon Racing Cams
.494 I, .516 E
300 I, 310 E, no checking degrees listed on the cam.
Unfortunately that cam was sent to Oregon and now lives in the Lancer 170 Hyper Pac engine.
Or did.

Will says he never went fast with a four barrel.
I have never been fast with this RB cam.

Finding a couple of things that would have kept it from running right.
Might be light at the end of the tunnel.
Or that is a train coming at me.

That last line is always my luck. LOL

Still working on it.
Trans out tomorrow to see what that noise is.
I know one thing I found will make a difference.
Webers are still on the engine.

I am still looking at the engine I picked up at MOKAN.

Good news on finding something and on the Webers. Pretty sure you will love them once you get everything sorted out!

Want to get back to test and see what it does.
Trans is out, I don't see anything wrong.
I will be building stronger 1-2 and 3-4 shift rods after some stuff from S&W and McMaster Carr arrives.
Spent some time looking at stuff trying to find anything else wrong.

After some head scratching I noticed something on the shifter.
On the 1st and 2nd mechanism the "pin" is close to the gate for 3rd and 4th.

So I re-adjusted the 3rd and 4th mechanism out a few threads.
Which moved the 1-2 pin deeper on the slot as shown here.

RAM ROD 1 Pin Deep.jpeg

This seems to allow the 1-2 more time to move back and drop into the "gate".

What I noticed was there is a little slop using the alignment tool and you can move 3-4 a few turns.
And still have the alignment tool fit.

This last picture shows the 3-4 rod and where I moved it out a couple of turns.
Notice the alignment tool is still installed and can be removed easily.

At MOKAN I had the trans stick in second gear on one run.
Now I know the shifter has to be moved with some serious force, but I guess I was going to 3rd slower.
If you do that on the bench with that pin "shallow" on the ramp it can drop into the gate and still be in 2.
Of course with the rooster on the side cover still in 2nd it will not allow you to go into 3rd.

This adjustment keeps the pin on the ramp longer and still clears 2 before going to 3rd.

Here is the dis-claimer.
The shifter is old, but not worn.
I have owned it for years and it does not have a million shifts on it.
Nothing is worn in the shifter, everything is tight.
But there is some tolerance in the alignment pit to the shifter body.
By moving some of the adjustments in and out you can change some of the shift action.

Anyway, that is my story, and until I get on the track again, just a theory.
I hope I am not becoming UT and talking myself into insanity.
For that matter, Road Kill guys do the same thing, but I think they are insane already.

Your rationale sounds accurate to me but depending who you ask I am not reliable! Hah! Great thread and great work. There is just no fast easy way to sort out a new car. You just have to learn on every pass, and take lots of notes, nice work guy.

I got some ink in the August 2023 issue of Mopar Action.
It's in the Reader's Ride section.
I had forgotten I submitted it early last year when I just started getting ready to run.
The engine picture is with the single 4 barrel carb and not the current Webers.
Thanks Craig and Gary for giving me the news, I was travelling and didn't know it was in there!

Very cool. I like seeing that. Awesome!

T&T last night.
Hotter than blue blazes!

Not much to report.
Still much slower than it should be.
My best 60 foot time last night.
Only half the salt was out of the hourglass.

I am going to swap in my spare transmission this week.
It has a 2.66 first gear, current transmission is the 2.47.
I guess I was doing some bad thinking when I chose the 2.47 gear set to start.
But, the track will prove if I am going in the right direction.

3 good test runs and I leaned something on each one.

I don't need to tell you how hot it is do I!

Funny I was watching the Finals from Norwalk last night when I got home.
Final of Factory Stock Shootout, Camaro against a Challenger, not sure who was in the Challenger.
The Camaro won a close one, but as they followed the cars at the top end on TV ....
The dude in the Challenger rolled down his passenger side window.
Electric window regulators!
He might have won if he wasn't running his Air Conditioning!

No roll down windows in the Colt, that is for sure.
I had a wet suit on, not a drivers jacket and pants!

FWIW, I've not yet run my newest 4 speed but selected the factory "white stripe" gear set when I bought it. It's a 2.65 1st gear. As you know I used to run the factory 3.09 1st gear. The new gives me consistent entrance rpm for 2 -4 at roughly 5620 rpm. Exit rpm @ 7800. All based on a bunch of calculations, my horsepower curve, etc. I'm nuts but those were the numbers in my head at the time. :)

Jerry, "Red Stripe"?
I will decide what direction to go soon.
Really one harder and one easier.
2.66 easier, 3.09 harder.
If the 3.09 goes faster I will see how long Liberty will take to fix it right.

Jerry, "Red Stripe"?
The factory gear set was a "white stripe". There was a race "red stripe" having the same 2.65 1st gear but 2 & 3 gear ratios are different. Here's the difference from my notes:

White: 1st - 2.65, 2nd - 1.93, 3rd - 1.39, 4th - 1.00
Red: 1st - 2.65, 2nd - 1.64, 3rd - 1.19, 4th - 1.00

From my notes also:

Racer's 2.93: 1st - 2.93, 2nd - 1.81, 3rd - 1.31, 4th - 1.00
My original 3.09: 1st - 3.09, 2nd - 1.92, 3rd - 1.40, 4th - 1.00
