Liberty goodies!

Well I got the output shaft built up.
Did some parts swapping with my transmission spare parts so I can keep the 2.45 gear set complete.
Needed the splined clutch gears, as the FSM calls them.
The inside parts of the synchronizer assemblies.

I am working with a friend in Australia on Weber carb tuning.
If know Weber's, each carb has a throttle return spring inside the carb.
Add the mandated dual return springs by NHRA and you have 5 springs to work against.
I came out to check model numbers and noticed the main linkage lever was shifted.
The foot pedal hooks to this lever.
So as it slips you go from full throttle to 2/3 throttle.
Well that is a real problem, this has caught me more than once.
You can see in the picture the gap has closed up.
It doesn't really matter how tight the little bolt is, if that gap is gone, it isn't going to lock on a smooth shaft.
Going to increase the "gappage" and mark on the rod the correct position.
Sucks that to fix this all the rod has to come apart.
Lots of little parts to screw up.
Looks like this will be an every round check point.

The dual return springs may add to pedal effort, but being directly on the arm won't affect the strain on that shaft clamp, so it's just the 3 carb springs. That arm setup looks cast, is it a ferrous plated piece, or ??? Hoping it won't crack once You've opened it up & pulled it tight. I've used coarse Silicone-Carbide lapping paste between friction-grip surfaces to get them to bite with less clamping force, just food for thought.

Like valve lapping compound?
And yes it is a cast part, ferrous plated or otherwise I don't know.
It's one of the few parts I got with the Clifford intake.

Have some down time waiting on transmission parts.
Everyone has gone to Carlisle.

Weber DCOE:
DC, "doppio corpo", Double-Throat.
O, "orizzontale", Horizontal.
E, "pressofuso", Die-Cast.

Who knew?

Worked on linkage a little.

That should tighten up real good.
I am also changing my master cylinder on the hydraulic clutch.
I had rebuilt the Airheart cylinder that was on the car when I got it.
It had a small leak and I wanted to make sure that the clutch was not creeping.
Tolomatic still sells the same cylinder, only plastic not aluminum.
Went with a 3/4 bore to replace the 7/8 bore.
Just need to bleed it after the trans goes back in.

Still waiting for the case.
This sucks.

But, I really enjoy watching this Video.
No knock on the Challenger and Wes, but this audio is off the hook.
Turn it up!

Yes, lapping compounds come in a great variety of grits, and different bases(oil, paste, water, etc.).

Still waiting on the main transmission case.
Now it's lost at the post office.
And he went to the Nats, so more time lost.

Working on the Webers.
I had one cracked float bowl pivot mount.
In the picture the vertical line is where Weber tells you to spread the mount.
Then you can press the shaft out.
I guess I did too much or it was cracked already.
I found a good welder in Dallas who welded it for me.
My motorcycle go to guy said he was afraid to touch it.
I don't have the materials or practice to start doing aluminum yet.
I also upgraded my air horns and a few internal parts on the carbs.

I have used Mike around 25 years….he has built some cool hot rods over the years, he built that dragster on his card, it was street legal. He also built a 2 seater winged sprint car that was street legal….His health is declining unfortunately.

How the hell does the post office LOSE a transmission case? I sure hope it's insured......but good LUCK collecting on it.

I enjoyed talking with him. And what a great shop, decades of parts in every corner!

Worked on my Weber carbs today.
Changed Air Correction jets, Inlet needles, venturis, chokes, and intake horns.
Again found some stuff.
Will it make it faster?
I doubt it, but wrong never the less.
