1973 Duster

-
That tank is AWESOME!!!! What's the clearance between the frame rails and the tank? Hard to tell in the pic, but I was guessing it looked like about 3" on each side? If you come up with a hydaulic trunk lift idea let me know. The dumba$$ that put the mini tubs in my sons '73 Duster cut the hinge/torsion bar mounts too short. The part that the trunk hinge attaches to is still there, but the slots for the torsion bars that allows the trunk to stay raise and stay open are gone. I haven't spent alot of time thinking on this one yet as we are starting at the front of the car and working back. Next time, your wife should be in/on/standing next to a Chrysler product because I see a future MOPAR HOT BABES addition! Perhaps her new truck?

Funny Nuke did you see the Challenger behind the motorcycle. come on look again I know you will see it. I will try to talk her into some pics by her truck when it gets warm again. You are right there is about 2 inches without looking between the frame rail and the tank I had to max it to get rid of the spare tire hole completely.

I basically cut the sheet metal connection on the front part and right next to the rivit marks on the side.

Measured about 20 times before I cut perfectly good metal., But I think it looks good or as you said Awesome which is a better word.

I should get my motor next week. Crossing my fingers anyways now that is going to be of the charts. stay tune for pics of that it should come in one enormous box, motor, trans, radiator, the works.

Who cares about the motor and what not in the enormous box unless the wifey is posing with it? LOL!

I will ask her to pose next to the box to get a comparison to the size of the box and see if she will do it. Funny though..

It would go something like this; Hey Honey I was wondering if you could help me with this box all you have to do is....

here are a couple of pics with my wife she is a good sport

love the direction this is going, your work and ideas are excellent. looking forward to see more. may steal some ideas if ya dont mind.

See!!! Now, she is a HOT MOPAR BABE! Or, she has been one all along and we just didn't know because she was on that KZ-14 with that Chally in the background. Tell your wife she is a good sport!

Wow 28 gallons. I didn't get to see the dash and some other items mentioned.
Squeaky trunk lid may be just tho torsion springs rubbing together.
Look for the plastic seperaters that snap in between them.
Lift cylinders could never tuck away as neatly as the factory design.

t-granger: What is the max height above the flange? I am talking to Rick about making a tank for my car.

My 1968 A-body is about 34" from frame rail to frame rail. I have mini-tubs and springs mounted inboard, so my max width through the floor with still reasonable exhaust clearance is going to be about 24".

the height above the flange is 2" all the way around. I get the pm now sorry if you are in the area you can come and check it out if you want. Just let me know via pm with a number to call you at.

Just got the call that my motor and trans are on the way hopefully I will get it soon and post some pics on here for everyone.

Stay tuned

Ok the day has finally come after what seemed like forever I got the call that my motor and drive train package had been delivered to the shop. So I went to pick it up and this is what I got.

If you noticed Now I also have an extra gas tank that came with the package, perhaps we will see it for sale in a forum soon.

And no that is not a BMW it is my Challenger hiding behind an old BMW cover Fits the front but not all the way back. So why throw it away, Right?

sweet. Gotta love the day parts show up...

although I hate the day parts show up too it reminds you of how light the wallet gets.......

Well luckily my wallet was emptied month before for this so out of sight out of mind right?

So worked on the motor today a little.

New oil pan on, Check

New motor mounts, check

Intake removed for better access, check

Test fit one, check

Did not fit cut the extra material under the trans hump, check

Test fit two, check

Trans hit the trans cross member, more cutting to go.

hopefully test fit three will fit on the motor mounts only need half an inch.

O.K new day try again:

test fit number three, well lets just say it involved my hand getting pinched, motor against fire wall and still another inch till it rest in the mounts.

Ok test fit number four;

adjust here, push there, remove the rear motor lift chain, raise the transmission half an inch, lower the motor 1/4 inch, lower the K member 3/4 of an inch and

It slid into home like a baseball player so here are the picture.

Now before I show the pictures, some people say that the 6.1 and stock auto trans will fit with only minor adjustments, and some say a little messaging will do it.

Well they are all wrong.

Here what she looks like with the motor and trans in place and after I took these pictures I managed to raise the trans another 1/2 an inch so it is where it needs to be.

Next stop trans mount

It's in there...good work and keep it coming....my wallet is always empty...you going to keep the wiper motor or close off the hole...

Bremereric,
I am keeping the wipers I live in Texas and you never know when you will get hit by rain. Not that I plan on driving it in the rain, but you never know.

Joe,

I almost wanted to use a shoe horn to get that last 1/4 inch that the motor mount were giving me grief with. The trans is the new 545R?? that comes in the Challenger auto.
And let me tell everyone that is one big trans.

To give you an idea of how big it is. The rear housing bolts are siting where the old trans cross mount used to be and the trans goes back even farther from there.

The trans is the new 545R?? that comes in the Challenger auto.
if you have the 545RFE, it's the ram trans. If it is the one from the chalenger, you have a NAG1 trans. The NAG1 came in all the cars. The 545RFE was used in all 1500 trucks. From 03 to current.

Sorry did not know that, I have a 6 speed in my Challenger so I was not sure, then I guess I have the 545RFE from a truck and it fits like it should be in a truck.

Truck, car, train - who cares as long as you made it fit and it'll work properly. Should have a nice short d-shaft . . .
