Agreed just like any boat trailer. the wheels are almost all the way at the back for a reason.
because it's ALL on the trailer...…

I guess the risk factor in towing a car backwards on a dolly would be IF the steering wheel lock ever broke. then it could fish tail. that is the only risk of towing it backwards.….

But, I prefer trailers over dollys for several reasons.

you asked how I pulled my car to the drag way. I had a trailer. But, I also had a dolly and I towed several cars several ways in several directions. Carry on, i'm out on this towing subject.
Backwards on the freeway at 65 miles an hour for a long period of time... I'm glad you're still alive...

We've all seen where someone tries to make a car hauler out of a boat trailer LOL the enormous amount of tongue weight..

A vehicle should not be towed backward on a tow dolly because if the steering wheel is left unlocked, the car would fishtail all over the place. If the steering wheel was locked, the steering linkage would break at the first sharp turn or the first bump you hit which would also cause the vehicle to fishtail.

Your best bet would be to tow the vehicle from the front and disconnect/remove the driveshaft. The only way around that would be to place the vehicle on a trailer..
this answers for those of you who like to believe what you read on the internet..

Post 1351, I said the biggest risk is if the steering wheel lock should fail. I've never seen it. But I supposed anything is possible. There would be no pressure to break it.

OK, by your own post...….. There is NOTHING said about the weight. And this was your argument. The weight. This is what I was explaining to you, the weight distribution isn't a concern. You said NOTHING about a steering wheel lock possibly breaking.

NOW, admit your ignorance, and tell me you learned something today. weight distribution is not the subject on a two wheel dolly. So, your argument was the stupidest post on FABO..... :D

Nice discussion we've had here I think we should let dark freak 75 make up his own mind. I would do it in a heartbeat just going across town 35 miles an hour or less, but jumping out on the freeway for an hour? not on my life or anybody else's...

Ok, I'm not suggesting you do it. He asked what should he do if he broke the rear axle at the drag way, I said tow it backwards.

You're the stupidest Post on FABO.. LOL...

I sorry I brought up the steering wheel. If I needed to tow a car using a dolly. I would secure the steering with a club and rope.

is this your way of say'n you were wrong???? why is it hard for a full grown man to say "I was totally wrong about my argument. weight has no bearing on towing a car backwards with a two wheel dolly".....

C'mon, jaws. swallow a little pride. I know you want to be a big fish on this site, but you'll be a bigger fish by admitting you were wrong.... even to me :)

Also with your boat try moving the tires forward to the center from front to back or even better yet as far forward as they are backwards from the back...

j par and YR sorta has a ring to it. don't it. they both like to argue. brothers ? :elmer:

Honestly I really appreciate all your thoughts and stuff here on the forum, but this one I am going to tell you is got to be the stupidest suggestion and I've ever heard anybody give. Towing anything weighted to the back on a freeway or highway is absolutely complete stupidity.

C'mon, Jaw'n J-head.... just say it.... this post was really STUPID of you to post because you showed your ignorance on 2 wheel dollies..... C'mon.... be a man..... admit.... it. I'll help you be a bigger fish.... say it... admit it.... ….. ……. …….

Could you read how the pressure is created? Around a sharp corner or such? When you're pulling by the front tires in the steering is unlocked it allows for turning movement. when you lock down the front you can see the steering wheel spinning back and forth when you go around corners. This allows the back tires to travel as they normally do. This is why you leave the car out of park at the very least so the steering wheel can turn freely allowing pivoting action.
Now if you're trying to drive your point about weight distribution fine do things the way you want to and I will give you the win on that one. No way you'll ever catch me doing it not on my life and certainly not on Dart freak 75's...

^^^^^^ the echoes of the Sounds of Silence...…… ^^^^

please don't help me understand what happens, I owned a dolly for years and pulled several cars with a dolly, including a b-body over an hour away with a Dakota. My friend, it is you that was educated today, not me. And I don't mean that sarcastically. :) But please, before you claim another man stupid, know what your talk'n about.

You say I "insist" and that is not true, don't start spreading fake news like you know who... I'm not one to believe everything I read on the internet from the masses, I would like to know if your blowing wind up our asses... You say you live close and are friends with yellow rose, you should race him and see where it goes... And see if he shows!! LOL you see everyone you're talking to has shown pictures of their cars, that shows were real people not internet stars... It doesn't bother me but as a result, I'll keep taking your post with a grain of salt... You say you'd like to remain a ghost, and of the big block you boast? I guess you expect us all to say hooray, okay my friend whatever you say...

For these arguments we have also you to blame, could YR and fisherman67 be one and the same...

Backwards?

Pull it backwards. I know a guy that pulled his Duster backwards with a dolly every weekend.
You say you like to pull it backwards and this I can see, the backwards puller is now what we will call thee... You say pulling backwards is the way to go, but we'll see who ends up in the ditch on the way home from the show... 318hasvalvesthatwillfly, don't you know Jaws is a name for some other guy... I've seen him and other places in the Forum, don't you think he gets tired of you quoting him and driving him to boredom... it looks like you're driving for some kind of satisfaction, but we all know you're going to lose this race trying to grab for traction...
