that's why you shouldn't "polish" the intake port. But I do use a sand roll after porting to get rid of the gritty feel. There is a fine line between turbulence and blending air/fuel.I thought leave the intake kind of rough for mixing Fuel and the exhaust smooth...
on that first picture to the right it looks like the Dremel got away from you in a bit..
Ok thanks I'm gonna continue working on them. How much is too much gritty? Because with the 240 grit it still leaves sanding lines. Is 240 the final drum you use??that's why you shouldn't "polish" the intake port. But I do use a sand roll after porting to get rid of the gritty feel. Seeing sanding marks if fine. Feeling them all "gritty" is what I get rid of. Just feel the factory casting, and see how rough that is in the intake port. Don't go for the glass look and feel. I think I use 120 grit.Ok thanks I'm gonna continue working on them. How much is too much gritty? Because with the 240 grit it still leaves sanding lines. Is 240 the final drum you use??
Yes it did!! Its was just the sanding roll luckily it's not deep it will buff out. If not completely the intake gasket should take care of it.on that first picture to the right it looks like the Dremel got away from you in a bit..
no, I think you've helped them breathe.Do yall think these head will perform better than factory or did I ruin them? Haha
It's funny when I talk to other car ppl they act so shocked that I'm porting them myself. I even had a guy on Facebook that told me I ruined a set of heads and he didnt even see them!! Lol
I bet have close to 20 and I'm not done!!Porting heads at home is an art. You have to remember, the air is exiting the exhaust, so port to flow that way. Intake is obviously moving the air the opposite direction, so you have to think of the air movement that way.
The last heads I recently ported was about a 16-17 hour job just on porting for the pair.
yep. First set requires going back over multiple times... LOL.I bet have close to 20 and I'm not done!!
Well, went out this morning to try and tune the car a little to the headers. Reached the top of first gear and oil light flickered and the engine shook with violence. I got out of the gas real quick and went to neutral. let it idle and the engine was bangin' hard on the bottom end. I limped home. engine shook like it was off balanced. Oil light stayed on when I got home and the knocking of the bottom end was loud. I'm sure I spun a main bearing.RATS !!!!
Not Good.....
RATS is definitely a more civilized word than the one that come to my mind...That REALLY sucks!Well, went out this morning to try and tune the car a little to the headers.
