6.1 Hemi into 72 Demon March 2018

So today I decided to finish up exhaust system. I had it mostly tacked up but not welded out. To help remember how it went together I peened the flanges with a center punch. Of course once I got them apart it dawned on me I had only done the flange on the glass pack. Translated the witness marking had zero value as it spins on the glass pack. What an idiot! Anyway once welded up I then ground out a relief clearance for the nut to ensure it gets solid purchase. When I do that I always grab a fresh rock (millwright lingo for grinding wheel) so that I can capitalize on the square edge of the fresh wheel.

Nice work. I have probable 5 grinders with different sized "rocks" With different degrees of wear. I get it.

Forget to turn on the gas on that tack. :poke:

Hah! Actually I did all the mock up and tacking with stick, hence the splatter and smoke. I would love to publish some kind of technology type reason that makes me sound like a super cool TV fabricator but the simple fact is the stick rig was all strung out from another job so I just rocked some 3/32 6011! Translated, I was to lazy to drag out the wire feed machine.

So started in on steering wheel QD coupler for wiring. Everybody on here has their own way to wire so I will just explain how I did it. Talking about wiring is like asking what is best cam? Hah! Anyway I like to prefab as much as I can. So I cut and prep segments of wire and have them finish wired on one end and wild on the other, and I like heat shrink. The part pictured is the female side to steering column harness. The Blue point pliers looking rig pictured is best wiring tool ever. It strips the end of the wire super clean and easy. The pix in the vise are all the correct colors, terminals on and ready to go into QD (quick disconnect) fitting.

So here is finished version, doing it this way minimizes the time I spend in tantric yoga positions under the dash. I prewire everything, then the “wild” end hangs down to floor. I route it to destination, trim to fit, make termination and throw excess out of the car.

So here is my cheat sheet, the actual electrical savvy guys will flame me into oblivion but for the record I am a welder not an electrician. I do it the best I can with limited experience, knowledge and an abundance of enthusiasm, determination and no small amount of adult beverages!

Way better than mine! Looking good

@Sublime one I have a question for you, how was the paint coverage under/behind those inner fender braces you installed from US Tools?

I am still chipping away at wiring, tonight I got the ignition key wired up. And yes I realize my colors are not exactly Mopar correct but it was the wire I had on hand that was correct size. I keep a drawing of the electrical for future troubleshooting events so I am not dogmatic on color correctness. But in my defense I also got almost 500 38 special rounds tumbled and ready to reload! Plus a couple very nice toddy’s completed. And I went for a putt, about got blown off the bike so only went about 100 miles or so. Just a super day of sunshine and no snow!

Just some more wiring junk. My apologies to all of you who have been wiring cars for years. I post the pix as a result of my trepidation for years over all things wiring. As previously posted I am not an electrician by any means. I post them for those out there that want to jump into wiring their cars but just don’t know where to start. As evidenced by the pix, I simply break it down into modules, wire and label each one and then move on to next item. It is super slow and tedious and perhaps a bit anal but it protects me from my own ineptitude and lack of wiring ability. I use a lot of heat shrink and like things neat and tidy. On the pix you will see where I separate out power supply and heat shrink other wires separate. First pix is light switch.

So here is a pix of the dash this morning and one from this afternoon. Quite a good day. But I got to tell ya old fat guys should not work under the dash. This is where my prewired components really pays off. Now I just have to mount the misc different box’s and terminate.

Here is a pix of the fuse box and also the ECU for the Holley EFI. The EFI looks worse than it actually is. I have most of it sorted out. I still need to mount a GPS box and a conversion box but they are both small. The hole in the dash is for the heater/ac panel.

So I finally got my graphics back from print shop. I took them a factory Demon decal and then experimented with different color schemes. Bright red just didn’t look good on side of car. I used the factory one in the back as it was on black stripe. And I went with the 370 call out. What do you guys and one gal think? I am not satisfied with the grey but am going to leave it for now. I just can’t think of a better color?

I like the Demon that colour ...reminds me of ashes...like the car has already passed passed through hell...

doesn't the fuse block interfere with your high beam switch?
Yes it might but I just did not care it was so convenient for wiring I did not mind losing high beams. In actual fact if I am graceful I can still hit the switch! Heck after twenty plus years of welding I can’t see at night anyway!

So today I got the fuel cell /gas tank into place. And yes for you sharp eyed folks wondering where is the anti squeak rubber gasket on the tank straps? Why it is in the trunk laying by the new rubber that goes around the fill tube, so I would not forget it. Yep, if car is lifted up ya can’t see in the trunk! I did of course find it once I lowered car back down, arghh! Had to loosen it all back up and put em in! To many adult beverages today! If you look close I prewired and plumbed the whole tank that way I can raise it and walk away. The loop on fuel line allows me to now run feed line to filter, then circumcise the fuel line and terminate as desired. Then take balance of loop for return line. The fuel gauge has a QD so I can simply disconnect and drop tank easy peasy for maintenance. Note I also left a bit of extra wire on fuel pump power wire for same event.

So it is cold and rainy up here with frost warnings. My body feels like I have been beat with a stick, the result of crawling under the dash all weekend. So I made a toddy and went to shop just to clean and sort out the chaos from weekend thrashing. Put on some Cody Jinks, followed by Whitey Morgan and ultimately some David Allan Coe. Appears I was in an outlaw country type mood. So I noticed I desperately needed to consolidate and reduce the amount of box’s with electrical connectors after all the dash wiring. Holy crap the picture is only about half of the rat stashed box’s with connectors. What a honking mess! I am a pack rat!
