73 Duster build named Fred

Not sure what it is to be honest. I told my gear guy that built all my diffs when I was racing offroad to build me something stout for the drag strip and this is what he came up with. He said it was a pro gear set but it can also be driven on the street We are adding a back brace to the housing and then I’m certain it will hold up to anything I can do to it.
I'm surprised you don't set up your own differentials , that does sounds like it's gonna be a great dif

Bill, don't you think the car would look killer with the pro-stock scoop from the 70's ?

Yeah, but then I would need to tub it and go big tire…. lol

I’m good with the hood I ended up with for now.

I’ve done a few but don’t have the patience to do it right anymore. lol

Plus, he can set up gears 3x faster than I can and gets them perfect every time. He’s also drilling my rotors to fit the 5/8 studs.

Nice, sounds like a good guy to have around

Nice work! Nice progress! It'll be interesting to see how it runs and I'm sure one way or another it'll run what you want. IMO if you wanted a 9 second platform you didn't do it the easy way, lol. Always cool to see a fast a-engine A-body.

Thanks! It seems I don't tend to do anything the easy way.... lol

The goal to run a 9 is lofty but it's just a goal. If it doesn't get there with what I have, I could throw some nitrous at it or finish building the big block that I have.... More than likely, I'll just be happy with how it runs and leave it alone.

Geez this third is so much beefier than what I had originally built the rear with….

Of course the brake caliper mounting brackets don't fit over the 40 spline axle shafts so I will have to modify them. More of the 1 step forward, 2 steps back kinda thing.... lol

You can probably buy the right brackets. Im going to guess it's just the center is to small?

It will run a 9 one way or another without damn nitrous. 8’s with nitrous. Lol

Got the brakes installed and bled, then tackled the windshield install so I wouldn't freeze my *** off when I go for a drive later today. I hope to never have to install a windshield on one of these cars again! lol

Looking good, I was hoping for a full face helmet 1st drive but I'll be waiting lol.
Your buddy drilled and slotted the rotors for you right ?
I remember the pain in the *** it was just to get my window trim off in good shape. I'm putting in the easy stuff lexan because I think I cut my window out since it was such a bish.

My friend drilled the rear rotors to fit the 5/8 studs. Fronts came drilled and slotted. Before the race tracks open up next year, I'll replace the brakes with Wilwoods.

As for driving on the street with my helmet on, I still might. It's just too damn cold to be driving without a windshield right now.

When I took the windshield out, I cut the rubber since I was replacing it anyways. Installing it was a *****. I'll never do it again. lol

Yeah, I put a windshield in my charger I had in highschool and ruined it. I'm not qualified EVER.
I was looking at doing 5/8th studs too, my welds are supposed to have a collared lug nut and I can't find any. So I'll just have to wait.
I went with the strange brake kit. Looks nice

I was looking at the strange brake it.... Haven't really decided yet so we will see. Seems to stop pretty good....just got back from the first drive. lol

Just got back from the first drive. Everything seems to be good but I will give it a once over to make sure before taking it out again tomorrow for some burnouts. :p
