74 power wagon dream truck...

-
I need a whole heck of a lot of it..
The floor itself is at least a 6x6.. being a club cab and all.. I want to do the firewalls the kick panels the inside of the doors up the back wall to the bottom of the back window and up the sidewalls in the club cab area up to the side windows... And maybe even some stuff up on the ceiling underneath the headliner glue on padding thing...

The only reason for the headliner "padding" is for insulation purposes. No way would I use that crap again on one. It rots, attracts moisture and mold. The KillMat is perfect insulation. I didn't use anything else under my headliner.

On the power wagons it's a piece of cardboard with material on it with two sided tape just in the center areas.. it's only one piece on a regular cab and an extra small rectangular piece with rounded corners in the extra cab area..
I already gave them to my upholstery guy along with my seats...
No matter what they say I'm going to dynomat or generic dynamat every dang thing I can get my hands on...

I'd leave that POS out.

Oh so that's the actual headliner then. Ok, I get it.
Yes you actually see the metal of the ceilings.. there's no real actual headliner in the trucks. It's painted just like the outside from the bottoms of the windows up the pillars and across the ceiling...
I think the pads that they glued up there were kind of some kind of attempt to sound deaden beyond aesthetics...

Got time to tack/weld the drivers rocker that I prepared a couple of days ago...

As soon as I wrapped up for the day the passenger side rocker showed up so my next day off I'll get started on it ..

...

I was able to chop out the vast majority of the passenger side rocker yesterday after work.. today I went ahead and got all the spot welds taken care of and got it cleaned up all the way around... I trimmed and test fitted the new rocker...
And like I've done everything else I painted the underside with rust encapsular primer to prep it for hopefully Tuesday or so I'll have another day off and can get that tacked on.
After that one more small patch on the passenger side kick panel where the factory heater box went through...

I feel like this cab is the hardest part of the whole build. At least it's not all straightforward like most everything else. Even rebuilding the automatic transmission I feel will be more or less straightforward..
The preparation of this cab though has all of its dirty secrets and unknowns that I need to address..

I was at the Mopar Nationals today and found a ok rear bumper and more important the very hard to find rear bumper brackets... The ramcharger kind... Also the extra drivers side kick panel vent I'm going to retro fit on the passenger side.....

Passenger side rocker on..
Passenger side kick panel patch patched ..
A layer of rust encapsular primer on the inside of the cab..

What are you using for reference points to get the new rocker in the same place as the old ones to assure you get the door gaps correct?

Hopefully I'll have enough encapsular primer to get the underside painted tomorrow..

I posted this picture before but you can see that the rocker goes over the top of the front and comes out from underneath on the bottom in the back... it's pretty much a no miss situation.. you kind of can't put it anywhere else..

It wasn't like this 65 GTO that I help a
customer with where there was one hell of a lot of measuring and fitting...

That GTO was a real piece.

Looking good, the only way to learn is to do it.
I have been fooling with a 70 cuda on and off for about a year now, its my bad weather, when I have nothing to do project.
Its a back 1/2 dana 60 with a full cage. I am putting a floor in it, upper and lower firewall, inner fenders, radiator support, new 1/4 panels.
About the only original sheet-metal is the roof, door jams and rockers, and some the front fenders that I took four fenders and made a set.
Alot of metal work to go, but I enjoy doing it.

I got the rust encapsular primer on the bottom and the outer firewall today..
I used my new small compressor which seem to be keeping up but I used my old gun which I must not have cleaned it well enough last time and ended up with a sticky air trigger.. which really didn't help with a small compressor. I had to keep pulling it out and in some cases I just kept going...
Speaking of keep going I think it's where I get too much on with the spray gun and it does that peeling thing or maybe not thick enough I'm not sure... It didn't seem to happen much on the inside when I brushed it on good and thick..
The good part is it's on the floorboards and on the bottom of the truck. It actually covers fine it's just the double layer that seems to peel.. I'm just going to wire brush those areas and continue on with the top coat...
