I found it was back on page 31 it was @67/6barracuda that was talking about it with me.
Looking these u bolts now that have different lengths what length do I need?
An 8.8 and a 8.25 take the same length driveshaft?
Custom shock plates for 8.8 and 8.75 axle. I have 1 set for sale in the brakes steering suspension sale forum. Enough room for the nuts so they dont hit the end flanges
Mine worked fine. With a 457 u joint.
I put a 8.8 in my 87 dakota, Best I remember, the 8.8 was about 1/2 shorter.... I ended up using a new driveshaft because My trans was a little shorter as well.... But as said, the stock driveshaft should be fine with the correct u-joint, but if you want a little longer, you may consider something like this JEGS 60620 Mustang Driveshaft Spacer | eBay
Anyone have any idea how the explorer driveshaft length compares to an a body/slant 6/7.25 driveshaft?
Like the actual length of the driveshaft from an explorer? I'm not sure but I'm not sure you would get the 904 yolk to fit a explorer driveshaft
Just occurred to me I can crawl under the car with a tape. Gonna grab an 8.8 from salvage soon. Thought I remember someone saying stock drive shaft is a little short but usable. I'm imagining that means the Ford driveshaft is a little longer, and maybe I could use it to move my wheel placement back a hair.
I'm hoping to have my engine and transmission in my car soon and will have to measure for mine I'm expecting to have to shorten it but hoping I won't have too. Lol I have two driveshafts to choose from
I'm starting with the rear end because they're so cheap and plentiful. Gonna be driving around with an 8.8 behind a 170 until I build the swap motor. Can't hurt to grab the explorer driveshaft.
Yep I got two of them for 200 bucks. I used the short axle and the calipers and some other parts off the the extra one and still have an extra housing and diff if I ever need it. I may end up reusing the ring and pinion out of the spare one but will have to buy another carrier it is a open diff if I ever need to build the spare.
Anyone use the 8.8 stabilizer bar setup on their a body? Is it possible or is there any point?
Not that I know of. I didn't see an easy way so I hacked off the mounts.
I was thinking of making a pinion snubber with the 8.8 stabilizer mounts
I wanted to try it but I didn't fool with it I have another 8.8 that still has the mounts on it I may try it someday
I just bought cheapo jegs slapper bars for a snubber. Will paint them black.
You can get a regular yolk for the 8.8.
Just use the ford 8.8 bolt on yoke that mates to the pinion flange. Get a 457C universal joint that fits the ford yoke and chrysler driveshaft.
Has anybody used the 90 Ranger 8.8 with the big brakes shortened on the driver side to the 95 short axle length? Are my calculations correct that it would have a 1" right pinion offset, 54.5" width, and 1/2" between backing plate and spring?
Most rangers 8.8's us the 27 (EDIT: 28 Spline) spline smaller axles. I would check that before using it.
And they use drum brakes. If your gonna upgrade, may as well get the whole enchilada
One thing about the Explorer axle is there is no C clip eliminator for it, that's why I used 9" ends and axles.
