Another Mopar Off My Bucket List - Barracuda Fastback

-
A lot of old plaster had horse hair in it. People freak that it's asbestos when it's not.

I'd always heard about the horse hair. It really seems bizarre that they would have used it. I know that 'back in the day' they tried not to waste anything usable but who in the heck ever came up with the concept of adding it into plaster? - Must have been a real b*tch during the winters for them ponies! LOL!

The only horses I own are beneath the hoods of my Mopars but I do have a couple of cats. I don't think they'd be too fond of the idea.

My Grandpa used to plaster with horsehair. He said it made the plaster stronger and less likely to crack. It is miserable to remove when remodeling.

It's the same principal as today's concrete with fibermesh added. It works. I'm happy to hear your gal usually wears a mask anyway.

And by the way, I sure does sound like you're despicable, although in a charming way.....

Somewhere, - somebody had to be the first to try it. I imagine that his buddies all thought he was insane. - And I imagine everyone thought the first guy to try camel hair for paint brushes was nuttier than a fruitcake too.

Well,,,, we are talking about John........ charming is not exactly the adjective I would use....
:iconbigg:

I've decided to start expanding my dark side. I sort of sucked at the whole 'charming' thing.

If everyone thought I was evil they'd think twice before messing with me. After all, who would want the evil s.o.b. next door pissed off at you.

I realize I may be more of an evil moron than an evil genius at this point but I figure it's 99% about image. From now on I need to start referring to my garage as my lair. Maybe make a secret entrance to it.

Of course it couldn't be too secret or no one would realize that I'm evil. I might have to post a sign.

And I'd place ads in the local paper just to make sure the word got around.

Yup, I think I've finally found my true calling.

I feel like most of my new news isn't really appropriate for a car site. It's sort of like I'm like a guy posting **** on Jerry Falwell's site but at least I'm not someone chronicling a Chebby restoration.

We're continuing with progress on the house. I have been working on that used set of kitchen cabinets. The set was almost a perfect fit but I did have to buy a couple additional bottom units. Although I was unable to find ones that matched, I found some that I felt were close enough.

The ones I wanted to put in the pantry had to be cut down 4&1/2". I could only be 19&1/2" deep and they were 24". The extra depth made them stick out into the doorway. It took me almost 2 days to modify them. The drawers and drawer slides had to be shortened too.

One of the biggest problems I ran into was trying to match the stain of the used cabinets. My two new base units and any trim I bought were oak but the used set is some other wood. We took one of the trim pieces from the used set into Menards and tried to match it with the example guide they had. It didn't turn out even close. - So we bought a different stain that ended up being closer to the right shade but it still is off. I'll have to try again.

I did have to extend the soffit on either side of the sink to make room for the top cabinets.

The trim that I put up above the cabinets seems to help finish them off.

In keeping with my new found effort to become evil I decided it was time for a little Alice Cooper.

Love Alice Cooper, especially the FM live show ,he does. He plays the GOOD 60's & 70's rock, plus some really cool covers.. Last Saturday, he played a live version of the Byrd's " 8 miles high" by Golden Earring.. Their twelve string guitar, & the rhythm section blew me away. I will forever geek on that song (Golden Earring "Live " album, circa '77...)

With less time spent in the garage lately, I rarely have a chance to listen to music anymore. The Ford truck that I drive back & forth to work on the house has no radio, the 'Cuda is too loud with those Purple Hornies, and the Duster has no radio either. 60s and 70s rock will always be my favorite.

x2 Alice puts on a great show every evening.

Despite the fact I'm still stuck on house building duties I still try to get my hands a little oily whenever I can. Last night my buddy Ray stopped over with a box of parts. We used my press to swap pistons on a set of rods he had. The cylinder wall between his #5 and #7 had cracked on his 440. He was at the strip when he noticed the #7 plug fouling and pulled the head off. After seeing water he had to call it a day and return home. He needed to put together a replacement powerplant quickly to get him back in competition for points. He's deep enough on parts that he won't have to buy another block but the engine going back in will be a conglomeration of used parts from his other motors. -Not enough time for fresh machine work.

I took a day off last weekend to go to another car show. With the temperature hovering in the mid-90s all week I needed a break. Dwight, Nebraska. A few of my friends live close by so I wanted to check out their rides. There were 8 car shows going on in the area that day so the turnout was small.

One of my buddies finished the AAR he'd been restoring and I hadn't seen it since it was off the rotisserie. It has got to be one of the finest restorations anywhere. Every nut and bolt is exactly as it should have been when it rolled off the assembly line. He was meticulous about making sure every tag and factory marking was in place. The undercarriage is as detailed as the topside.

The car he started with was rough and he wanted everything perfect so there is no patching anywhere, - but the car was reconstructed with all new FULL body panels. Very few of the original body panels remain. (I think the cowl and roof.) I wish I'd taken more pictures of it.

He's already started on his next project. He bought a '72 340 Duster.

I've been too busy lately to spend much time developing my evil side. But like anything else, if you want to master it you have to give it an effort.

I thought about putting a 'VOTE FOR HILLARY' bumper sticker on my car but I don't think I want to go that dark. I want people to think I'm a bit evil, not sadistic or totally demented.

Maybe I'll start small by wearing a shirt with a Chebbie bowtie insignia on it.

Naaah. I still need to stay true to my Mopar roots. Certain standards have to be maintained. I don't want to look like a dork.

I'd try observing Teresa's grandkids for clues as to how to be evil but I'm too scared of them to get very close.

Although they greet me when I see them, I don't think they really want to wish me well.

evil-babies-38-pics_5-jpg.jpg

When they stay the night I always have an uneasy feeling.

evil-child-jpg.jpg

Maybe I'm approaching this all wrong. If I tried playing a few pranks on them I could develop my evil side while forming a bond with them. :evil3: I just hope they don't make me sign anything in blood.
