any modern stang owners??

comments like middleagecrisis just posted adds good info to my limited knowledge and non existant experience with these modern stangs. I consider modern the fox body and newer. just wondering of any particular engine to avoid or model?i admit I never really thought of the early fox body as a stang, no more than the modern Dart looks like a dart!??? I like the look of the FB but have to wonder if the coupe is near as heavy? been told the FB weights well past 4000 lbs. that's heavy!

price under $6000 I figure. be great to own the fastest and meanest but don't need that, just fun factor. who knows , I might just pick up a V6 car and putt around!???

wow factor is great, but having been in this hobby since mid 80's I have had opportunity to owned bout everything, from hemi's to slants. I found the stock 440 would just about stay with the stock hemi back then. I would always sell that hemi car I found and drive the 383 and 440 cars, just me....
 
Mine is a 2007 V6 auto it is my daily driver to work (Ford Motor Company in Louisville, Ky building the Escape & MKC

Bought it 4 years ago with 81,000 miles now have 145,000 on it. Runs good, ok gas mileage. Take it to cruise nights when I don't have time to get the Dart or Prowler out or chance of rain.

I was impressed with the performance 245 hp, and how quite for a convertible (wanted a coupe) handling is good

I haven't done anything to add performance other than true duals and H pipe

Sounds good (stock GT mufflers) & looks good

My lower ball joints were replaced and the door panel on right side repaired now need left side done this coming year. Other than normal maintenance nothing else done and would drive it to Florida or anywhere else in the country today if need be as long as there isn't snow on the ground. My winter tires were the ones on it when I bought the car. They still have lots of tread but SUCK in the rain, snow and even dry pavement if I hit it very hard. My summer wheels & tires have great tires with improved handling both wet & dry but don't want to run chrome wheels in the winter.

For appearance added graphics down the sides, MACH 1 scoop, blacked out the hood and tail, honeycomb panel between tail lights, GT rear bumper cover with GT mufflers, chrome trim for tail lights and MACH 1 emblem on dash, deck lid and 18"x9" Deep dish 18"x10" Deep dish rear chrome Bullit style wheels with factory Ford spinners
 
I like that Wildcat! like you I prefer I prefer a coupe over a vert, but....great looking car especially with the add ons.
I love working on and driving my old mopars but I would love to have a modern fun car, and I really think the stang is my route. will be nice to deal with a car model that is plentiful and a host of other reasons!

The Coupes are generally lighter than the hatchbacks and GTs, but I'm sure it's not by much. I've owned an '87 DPS coupe that I put a lot of money into. I think it just depends on the style you prefer. The 87-92 5.0 motors had forged pistons and are darned near indestructible until you really push the limits of the block. I had a good friend that had a '91 GT, 2.95 T-5, basically a stock motor with a B-cam, 70MM throttle body and exhaust, 4.10s & 125 shot of nitrous. I personally saw him regularly run 12 teens on slicks, pulling the front wheels in 1st and 2nd gear. This car was driven to the track with A/C on. You can get a WELL built nice 87-93 for under $8K. I would avoid an AOD car, they just aren't as much fun, the AOD is weak in factory trim, and the 5.0 needs 5 or 6 gears, IMO.

one good thing about my part of the country, prices a low, ecepth when you try to do business with a dealer of anykind!
 
Automatic Over-Drive (AOD), 4 spd automatic. Ford put them in their F150 trucks for years. I've burned up several in my truck towing projects home. Not one of Ford's better ideas!

The reason I didn't want a convertible was being a daily driver the extra noise, cowl shake and I have the Dart and Prowler for top down driving. In 4.5 years I have had the top down 5 times and twice in the last week, WHY? Took it to Lights under Louisville, Christmas decorations in caverns under Louisville. Had 4 people in the car last week and took my wife's parkinson med school buddy Tuesday night. 56-58 deg so great way to see the lights

I like the look of the convertible with the top up better, to me it looks like a vinyl top car, Ford never made a MACH 1 convertible either. But it fools even mustang owners

The price was right so I bought it. If you are looking for a fun cheaper car the coupe will be it, but a convertible has some advantages

Ha! I wonderedd when I would finally get chastised!!!!!

at least when I started back in mid 80's I started building Mopar not Ford!!! ha

maybe I would have fewer grey hairs if I had gone Ford back then!?? ha
 
Street speed = supercharged overhead cams, in this day in age.
 
I have an 07 GT 4.6 5 speed fastback. I love mine. It currently has 8,625 on the odometer. I will recommend that if you want to get the 5 speed and run it hard through the gears, to shut off the TCS (traction control system) on the dash. With this switched on it effectively neuters the car. Its active on startup, and i shut it off every time i start the car. Kinda wish Ford made this feature passive to where you turn it on when you want it turned on not the other way around.

Granted my car has extremely low miles for its age, however i have not had any clutch slippage issues when i run it hard through the gears, and feel that Ford did a good job on the 07 V8 models.

Could it possibly be the clutch slippage issues others have mentioned has to do with the way some folks drive standard shift cars. My 1994 chevy pickup has 160,000 on it, and the original clutch is still in it, and my 2008 chevy HHR has almost 90,000 on it and the original clutch still in it.

Also i purchased 2 things for the stock 5 speed shifter. A set of steeda polyurethane bushings to replace the soft rubber used to isolate the shifter from the transmission, and a short throw shifter adaptor from Saleen motorsports. These are so easy to do. I only had to remove the drive shaft to get up in there to the aft shifter mount. Car up on jackstands, about 30 minutes time to mod the shifter.

This is a cheap way to upgrade the stock shifter for under $100. I also added some flowmaster axle back mufflers and it sounds great.

A fellow mopar brother is asking for advice from those of us who own mustangs in addition to our beloved mopars to possibly purchase one. Soooo whats the ******* problem??? He did not post this in the mopar general forum.

Stop being a troll Jpar. If you can offer good advice to help him with his purchase of the type of car he wants then great, join the conversation. If not why dont you get lost. Maybe you havent realized this but there are those of us who actually own and enjoy other makes of vehicles besides our mopars.

I personally own 2 chevrolets, one ford, and 5 chrysler products.

we rented a v-6 stang rag top while in fla. a few years ago. that thing ran damn nice.. i'll bet it would have torn up my stock fox body rag top. i think it would be a great daily driver.


i have a 87 rag top with the 5.0 and AOD. real fun car. my only issue with tit is there is just no room in it. the trunk is pretty much non-existent.. i would love to have an 05-up.

I thought this was an A-Body Forum. A-Body's haven't been built since 1976. Obviously, most of us are here because we love our a-body cars. However, many of us here, me included, are not quite as enamored with the later products coming from Chrysler. I own 3 a-body cars, but I also have 2 Chevy's, a Ford, and a Toyota. I like them all.
 
Mustangs taste like chicken... Sorry had to say it... But all joking aside I sure do like the looks of the new one and the first years of the retro look. If I did not own my Challenger I would have bought one. Brother in law has a new Camaro and it is way to small inside..

X2 - fellow mopar mo. brother!!! this particular forum I s set up to talk about " whatever", maybe its o k with most members to ask a legitimate question bout mustangs aka fords!???????

I look at it like this. i'm 67, owned, bought, sold, restored, wrecked one, plenty of mopars since '85 when I got interested in so called muscle cars. over the decades I have. like many people my age, driven other brands than mopar. I apologize to no one for that! I owe mother mopar nothing, and she , like ALL corporations is really only interested in the bottom line AND how to put more millions n the hands of the execs!!????

I would look at a modern dodge for a driver, BUT I its not on my plate to buy as u sed chally, and nothin else they make with the EXCEPTION of the cummins RAM is of any interest to me. MY ram 3500 I bought new in '95 has 200,000 mi. and yes the diesel will live forever, but I can't afford to use it all the time. can't afford to replace it!!!!!!
 
I've owned multiple Mopars, Chevys, Fords, BMWs, Toyotas, and even a Pontiac and Oldsmobile. Every one of them had good points/bad points and I wouldn't say any of them were a better car than any of the other ones.

Sorry not all of us that race mopars only own mopars..my tow vehicle is a Ford best damn truck i ever bought,as for the modern stang' if i was single there would be a g.t. 500 parked in the driveway:D:D
 
I have owned more than 100 cars and trucks since 1974, all brands, starting with my 1967 Plymouth Barracuda, at 18 and living at mom and dads and dad worked at the Indianapolis Chrysler Electrical plant (I did too at the time) had a 69 SS Chevelle, 74 Camaro and 71 MACH 1, I wasn't the favorite son at that time........ LOL

I can buy and drive what I want, I work at Ford, so I drive a Ford as daily driver.

If someone would ask me about the newer MOPARS I really only know what I have read or my friends have told me. Several have new SRT, Vipers and trucks.

So to post in a GERNERAL DISCUSSION just about anything automotive is ok. If a guy wants to read only about mopars, STAY OUT OF GENERAL DISCUSSIONS, where all is fair game.

It is all about choices, you don't have to read it. If it bothers you why would you open a thread about mustangs?

I REALLY LIKE my 2007 Mustang and if someone ask I will tell them what I think. I'm not pushing fords or Mustangs on anyone. But will put a plug in, if you intend on buying a new ford and want a discount have X plan pins available.

As Joey posted about his fox body not having any room, we had a 92 fox body convertible and he is rights, back seat and trunk for looks only.

My 07 has a large trunk for the size of the car. Would guess bigger than my 71 MACH 1

And not sure what year it was but after mine the V6 was rated at over 300 HP, my 07 is rated higher than my buddy's 98 GT 225 vs 245. They are good little sporty cars I would lean towards the 05-09 over the other years just for the look. And in convertibles they were designed as a convertible not a coupe with the top cut off which leads to a better ride and quiteness. No wind buffering with windows down.

Well if this offends anyone, YOU SHOULD HAVE STOPPED WHEN YOU CLICKED ON THE THREAD.

I've posted on this part of the forum about my 41 Studebaker and I like the advice, but I also get quite a bit of entertainment out of this forum. Chill out, sorry, just joking :D

I choose to not name the other 5 brands of vehicles I own with the exception of the one already mentioned.
OK, sooo ya my brother-in-law had a 93 "stang" (LOL - security code for mustang) it had the 302 with flow masters. It sounded wicked! It was fun to drive because it had such a short wheel base. It was squirrely!!
At the time I had a 93 trans am, it was faster and had a longer wheel base and was more predictable. We built my 72 duster together. I had other mopars before that, but that's when mopar fever set in :coffee2:

My retired nabor on the left side of me has a beautiful 66, and nabor on the right has a brand new convertible and a hard top a few years old. I'M SURROUNDED !! Lol
there's no doubt that the DUSTER is the king of the block though !! LOL :burnout:
 
when I got my interest rekindled in so called muscle cars ( bout '85), I had no real preference in brands. my dad had been a chevy guy till the GM dealer pissed him off ( hard thing to do), so he went Ford. he didn't like the idea of a unitized body.!!

I was a horse crazy kid, but did like speed. ( dad didn't know I could get 120 out of his 59 chevy! local horse lady had a new 383 64 sport satellite. she owned an interest in local dealership. she would let me and another girl my age (17 ) use her new car and trailer and load up our horses and head off to a show 50 mi away! she told me to drive! ha

my first muscle car I found was a 68 4 4 2, was in Ks, came out of Ca. perfect old car, this is 1985, cost me $1000. then that left and I found a 71 Charger RT, rallyes wing good orig paint, perfect int and driver, $1000. guy drove down from Ia to look at it as I decided I was to be a 70 E body guy. he passed on it for $1500 because it had an almost invisible door ding, and he bitched bout finding another door, door was 1 yr deal! ha ...someone else bought it.. and life went on .. from one o ld mopar to another........only reason I stayed with Mopar was due to someone telling me in the beginning to " pick one brand, learn all you can and stay with it:"!

had a few trading cars: Camaros, vettes, ..... never really found ( excep t just one ponyac guy) any chevy guys I wanted to hang with! and he had an old yard full of everything.

I bought a 86 vette back 20 years ago just to drive down to Ga for a h s reunion! ha got back home and sold it!! rather drive that 383 4 spe
ed runner....

there are plenty of old fords I would like to have and a few , very few, g m's. modern cars really do not interest me that much....

what would interest me the most on a modern stang would be a s triped down model, no air, best v 8 and 4 speed, good exhaust, as bare interior as could be had!!!
