You should be okay, like you said they don't get that hot.
Did you have to bend the pipeI was going to do side exits on mine but ended up just going dumps, might change it depending on the sound after I drive it for a while. Great job, looks good.
Did you have to bend the pipe
so this is what I'm thinking
if I cut the pipe, just after the X pipe (before the weld) I can slide the muffler right on there
then grab a 45 and shoot out the sides, exeting just before the rear tire
put a nice tip with a 45 on it aswell and it would look killer
I thot about doing the same thing------------
little update
I think I'm 80% done here
I got the pipes cut down and the mufflers moved up to where I want them
of course, the second one i cut before the bend, so i got to weld that back on and cut it again
when the tips come in on friday I'll do the final alignment and install the hangers
I think I might be able to pull one of the front spring perch bolts out on each side to bolt the hangers down with
the pic with the pipe sticking out the side is just a scrap piece to show where the tip will end
as you can tell I also had to adjust both 45s to suit me a bit better
didnt go to bad considering I was using just a little fluxcore welder

hey Bob, check out post #30 for the final productNow u need a flattened 3x6 or 7 tip on them , kind of nascar ie .
thanksI like the Valiant grille! Lighter than the stock plastic one as I remember.
Dumps can be beneficial. They do clear leaves from your driveway in the fall, just angle them outwards a little. Always get a chuckle when I roll down the drive. And on some setups having pipes sticking out from the sides or rear detract from the overall look and are just excess baggage.
Definitely a personal preference, a little trial and error to find a happy medium might be all you need without resorting to more drastic measures. I’ve read a bit on angling them in towards each other can help cancel out certain frequencies, but have never tried that as I’m content with my setup.I have my dumps turned sideways, since I have minimal ground clearance there, they are way too loud outside of the car, they just blast the noise right at people. I'm going to angle them down as much as I can to try to an calm them down a little.
I would try to get that exhaust out from under the car completely.

my only concern would be that that would put the muffler pretty close to the floorboards, and I dont want to fry my carpet
(I cant imagine they get too hot because I've never seen paint flake on cherry bombs, but who knows)

Tucked mine up as tight as I could to the floorboard. Not to low.THIS If I live long enough to get mine together, I'd like to imitate AAR / TA. My old RR had GREAT side exit they were 2 1/2 that came parrallel under the rockers, then 45'd out and were angle cut to parallel the car sides. Had an H pipe and cross brace at rear, entire thing dropped out of the headers in seconds.
That would be difficult to do on an A unless you found some THIN mufflers, or duplicated the AAR /TA method, of mufflers with in/ out same end
I do believe I'm digging it
