Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 EFI

-
Very nice, I believe that Edelbrock may have been looking to improve this but two things to check, clearance around the distributor cutout and valve cover clearance at the injector risers. Distributor clearance is easy to fix with a die grinder, the valve covers and / or risers are likely to need a bit of surgery though. I had my risers milled back as far as I dared and I’ve just got clearance now. Not sure how you’ll do your linkages but I bought the Edelbrock 8041 as it appeared to accommodate a cable type kickdown nicely, which it does with my Bouchillion Kit.
I hadn’t thought about powder coating mine, are you going for a clear finish? I’d be interested to see how it comes out!

I should have also mentioned this above. Definitely check distributor clearance as I had issues with the Pro Flo 3 and Pro Flo 4 manifolds here. How they can “F” this up is beyond me. I didn’t have the valve cover issues with the Pro Flo 3 install due to running EQ Magnum Heads but with factory iron heads and MP aluminum valve covers there is some major surgery needed to clear the intake runners/injectors.

Found out that Edelbrock did not fix the manifold issue back by the distributor as mentioned above and in post #50 by Mopar73340. The manifold needs some grinding to get the distributor in, so that it moves freely. I should have checked this before I had it powder coated. Oh well.

Funny!! When I called Edelbrock 2 years ago about this issue with the Pro Flo 3 they said they had never heard of it. I thought “how could I be the sole unlucky person to receive a kit like this? Then last fall the same with the Pro Flo 4 manifold. I sent pictures that clearly show the problem after the Pro Flo 3 issue. Piss poor quality control from their claims of made right here in the USA.

On a side note as said above, at least you can’t see it once installed.

Seven FARKIN pages and NOT ONE VIDEO of some of this stuff running with EFI. If this EFI was so good, I would be posting up a video everywhere. This has to be the absolute LAMEST THREAD EVER.

That is probably because no-one has successfully gotten the small block version to run properly. My personal experience with initially purchasing a ProFlo2 system (for $3800 new at the time) and then spending over a year, NOT exaggerating, with their tech services (they literally knew me by name) was that I never got it to run properly. I built a small block 426 (Hughes kit) dynoed at 435HP to the wheels (so not radical) and the EFI literally crapped on itself at WOT. They eventually decided to try and shut me up by trading me my ProFlo2 setup for the ProFlo3 setup, which actually ran worse. At least the ProFlo2 system ran everywhere but at WOT, the ProFlo3 system ran terrible at part throttle and anything over 1700 RPM.

Edelbrock had me chasing all kinds of miscellaneous issues that they claimed were the problem, which I corrected as they suggested them (ground sizes/locations/alternator amperage/etc). Never improved the system falling on its face until finally they told me to go screw myself, they were done trying to troubleshoot their system. I installed an 850 Holley back on the car and was back to running 11.80's at 120 MPH.

Looking back I should have tried a crank trigger, because I didn't have the manifold fitment issues but I had distributor engagement problems (and erratic spark) with literally (4) of their distributors before I punted and went back to a carburetor. If I try EFI again I will likely buy a FAST controller to use with my existing hardware in addition to a crank trigger.

In the end, don't expect alot of help from their tech support.

The carburetor on my truck runs damn GOOD. LOL

I’m considering this and want to know if anyone got these sorted out.

if they did how do they run after a year or so

What did you do with the throttlecable and the kickdown linkage? How did you guys attach it? Does edelbrock provide an adapter or do I have to make one?

Right, you are going to have to fabricate something. I used Edelbrock part #8041 as it came with the Pro Flo 3 when I purchased it. I had to fab a cable bracket that held the throttle cable in the same manor as the factory bracket and bolted it to the Edelbrock bracket and also fabricated a bracket for the Bouchillon trans kick down cable that I’m using.

Don’t expect much help from their tech support as I’ve received very little direct help and when I have when I posted on their form I received the opposite information there. Most of the responses from tech support say to try it and see what happens. And by all means, don’t disagree with their Expert Engineer on the forum Nate who locks topics on me because I disagree with him.

I’ve had mine running for a while and overall I’m happy with it. Is it perfect no but I don’t have more than 500 miles on it. Hopefully others will chime in with their experience.

I’ve got the system to work. My major problem with them is the lack of information of how the system works in the instructions. I believe we all know how to install an intake and there are plenty of instructions for that. I believe there needs to be more technical instructions provided. The form moderator disagrees. I’ve also posted information recently that I received via tech support and was confronted by the form moderator saying it was a bandaid and that the information was inaccurate. Then when I disagreed with said person I’ve been locked from responding.
