Guns, Dogs and Blades QnA

Thanks, I'm super stoked about it too. Considering they want $2700 for a complete factory built rifle, and I'm into it for about 1/2 including the Geiselle.
I can't complain at all. I have a Wilson trigger in my SBR, but I like my Geiselle's so much better. The Wilson is the same weight, but feels a lot stiffer. I usually run SSA-E triggers, but I couldn't pass up a G2S for $90. The trigger is probably one of the most Important parts. I've tried Mil Spec, ALG, BCM, Chip McCormick, Wilson and Geissele. None compare to the Geissele. The only reason I don't have one in my SBR is because it's a pistol caliber and they say not to run their triggers with those calibers, it's too violent on them.

Y'all should watch the Forgotten Weapons video on the brace issue.
hah! You got me. I assumed you were refering to some stuff from the past

Just took a look and now know what your talking about.
A short history of how shoulder stocks and short barrels ended up in the legislation and why minimal barel length is now 16".
As usual, Ian does a good job in his research and presentation.

Love me some Geiselle triggers!! The two-stage ones I have on my NRA service and match AR rifles give the custom triggers on my Palma and 1000yd rifles a strong run for the money.

Did I mention the new barrel for the AR 7 showed up the other day ?

I'm very impressed with Henry's customer service

So the trade went thru, some primers for a pinned and recessed model 19 in great shape with original box. Got it home and she has had the action worked and trigger done. I am guessing it was used for bullseye matches once upon a time? It has custom shooters grips on it as well. The gentleman passed as yet another victim of cancer. My buddy bought the collection at estate sale. I am very happy, it is sweet.

Rolled through a gun shop today.
$723 for a threaded barrel Springfield XDM OSP 9mm 4.5....
We see a lot of those in classes, never have any issues with them, they just run. Only issue I ever see is hand size vs the staggered mag. They tend to be a bit fat for small hand guys so they invariably rotate pistol in hand to run controls. Then have to reacquire shooting grip to reengage on target.

Do you have any idea what that leather thong is for on the left side of the rifle?

Here's my disclaimer - I could be oh-so-wrong so if someone smarter than me (which is everybody) weighs in listen to them not me. But that Red Ryder is intended to look like a saddle ring carbine, like a Winchester 1894. The idea was that mounted troops could hook that leather loop around the saddle horn for quick access. Nowadays I'd call that a cosmetic thing. But I do like it!

Well that makes perfect sense, I had not even thought about that! Good catch!

I just came up on this video on the new pistol brace rule. It is so concerning that I thought that the gun owning community of this forum should hear about it. The host of Guns and Gadgets, Jared, is interviewing an attorney from GOA (Gun Owners of America), I believe his name is Steven Stambalia. Anyways, he says that the biggest issue that he sees right now is that the ATF has a policy on their Form 1 and Form 4 that if they cannot complete a background check on you withing 88 days you automatically get denied, and your ATF form 1 will not go through. He claims that if the ATF receives millions of applications, that it will just clog the system and most all the SBR Form 1's will not get approved, because they will not be able to complete the background checks in 88 days, and that at this point in time you are a felon with an SBR. He says that he went and talked to an ATF representative and asked them what they will do with Form 1's that get denied. He says that the ATF rep told him that all the denied forms will be sent to ATF enforcement, so basically you will be in deep doo doo facing 10 years in jail and $250,000 in fines. Remember that you admitted to having an illegal SBR and sent them all the evidence they need, including photos and your address... Remember that I am only the messenger, please do not kill the messenger... Here is the video:

If you get denied, could you not just remove the brace and put a pistol buffer tube on and be fine? That's how I read it, if you didn't want to apply for an SBR, that was the option.

Heads up guys, we have lasted 55 pages on this thread without getting bounced to the N&P section. While I certainly agree the brace ruling is a train wreck waiting to happen we need to keep politics out of the thread so as the moderators do not get in a position whereas they are forced to bounce the thread. Stay technical and we will be fine. This topic (Brace rule) is incendiary at best. The simple nature of a 2A thread is always a delicate balance between technical and political. Folks that read this thread are all passionate and patriotism is in our DNA. PS thanks for the video HS it was informative.
Carry on

How about some NRL22? I'm looking into entering a few local competitions. I have the rig for it, I think. However, doing some 100 yard yesting of ammo last week, I was pretty disappointed with the Eley Club that I use for 50 yard targets. It'll hit toothpicks in half at 50, but at 100, I was lucky to keep a 6" grouping with it. CCI SV performed much better, and I picked up some Eley Tenex, CCI Pistol Match, Eley Benchrest and Normatac to give a try. I'd like to try Lapua Center X and some SK Biathlon too, but can't find it anywhere currently and don't want to dial in my rifle for an ammo I may not be able to get again. My buddy has a doppler radar setup we are gonna use and have a 22 shootout and see what's the most consistent at 100 and 200 yards.

Pic for attention, Tikka T1x, KRG Bravo chassis, Nikon 6-18 Prostaff and a Silcencerco Sparrow. And the best grouping I have gotten at 50 yards so far, 10 shots with Eley Club, CCI SV is slightly larger.

To your point the Eley and CCI are the only choices readily available in my area As well. Sweet rig for sure. I think you should definitely put it to the test in local matches. There is just no better way to dial in your equipment And ammunition. The rigors and structure of competition are invaluable as a training tool. I have several instructors that I work with that passionately disagree with me on this topic but they have never competed. Side note they do not shoot as well as the guys that compete regularly, by no means saying you need to be a good shooter to teach but it sure helps on occasion.

If you are shooting long range with a .22lr, make sure that the ammo is starting out at sub-sonic velocity. Most target ammo is, but I'm not sure about Club. Strange things happen to the bullet as it slows down through the trans-sonic zone. Nice looking rig. Wish we had some of those matches around here.

So rescue Shepard took a new twist today. No way on planet earth is that dog getting in a truck. No amount of coaxing, cheese or cookies will get her to move off the X and jump in. I mean nothing, you try and lift her and she bolts. I finally got her in the truck so we could go secure the gates this evening. Had to pick the whole dog up and toss her in. I think I will start using the truck every night. I hate giving up the cardio but getting her used to the truck is a good thing.

A buddy of mine submitted his back on March 23rd, he is still waiting.
My Dad bought a full tilt boogie Mac 10 in the 80s, after we both fired a friend of his, a PI named Joe, his class three license came in the mail two weeks after he died so he never took possession of it...

Unfortunate.....

On any given Saturday I sit in the back yard and listen to the sounds of freedom echo down the valley...
