Header fitment rant, Doug's

-
I certainly know the difference between a hot rod and a modern muscle car. Haha, .....

I try to keep the profanity to a minimum because some members don't appreciate it for religious reasons, the profanity would be thick if not for that.

Dented it in using a piece of pipe and my favorite hammer. Also sanded the steering box a little bit where it was hitting. The box is heavy as hell, not too worried about going thru.

Should fit now.

Nope. Now it's hitting number 3 exhaust tube.

Haha, more fun than a car full of ex wives.

Haha, these headers fit great.

Not sure if I dented them enough yet, but at this point it's ridiculous
I still need to be able to get a remflex gasket in there, how much do they compress. Haha, what a joke.

Heck, you wont even see those modifications when you bolt everything back in place. I feel for you man, but glad to see you're close to putting this part of the build behind you. We've all been there with our cars. Hang in there!

Pat

Somehow this roll pin got down in to the threads on one of the holes. Wondering why it got so hard to turn that bolt in.

When I pulled the steering box off for the tenth time today, it fell in my lap.
Fell off the fender and into the hole I guess.

And to top it off, pretty sure I got a ceramic sliver in my thumb, even though I had gloves on.

Go ahead and laugh, it is funny.

I feel your pain when I brought mine in to get recoated the chap said never buy em coated test fit them and make your adjustments to them than get them coated.

That mount I bet is the problem, it doesn't look like the engine is in the right location
Off topic but your inbox is full. In an older post/thread you used 15x8 wheels with 3.5 backspace on a duster. Did it have an 8.25 rear or 8 3/4? I ask cuz I want to use this size and backspace on my dart sport 8.25 rear. Thanks.

I feel your pain. Currently doing the same. 414/360 with borgeson box, trick flow heads, mity mounts, 1.14 bars. So far I've massaged 5 of 8 tubes and bent the drivers header with a pipe in the collector.

I am running a borgensen box and hydroboost with a saginaw and my headers will be stupid tight so I found a compact cooler at the boneyard. Your tubes are close just like mine will be....

That's the way my used tti`s looked on #1-3 tubes. I cut the pieces out and drove an 1 7/8" ball thru them , worked pretty good , no torsion bars , all clears now.!

1969 Dart with 340, manual brakes and steering - TTi long tubes - there is plenty of clearance, perhaps the manual cars are without issue, this was a 4 speed car and the guy said he had to get a different Z bar or something for the clutch, what I like is # 5 and 7 cylinder have access to the plugs. clearance on the passenger side just as good.

I have nothing but good things. I had them on my 65 and they installed easy and fit great. I see others have the same experience and yet others......not so much. But I have never seen a Chevy guy complain about a 99 dollar set of headers fitting in a 70 small block Camaro.
That's because 70 sb Camarillo is a 99 dollar car

How is it that they've been making these headers for years and still haven't revised them to not interfere with the steering?

A body with original 318.

I cut a 1/4" shim to lift up the drivers side, haven't installed it yet so I'm not sure if it will be enough.

Exhaust tube for #3 is a tight bend, why didn't they do the same on #5? It would of fixed this problem. May create a different problem, but I dont think so.

I'm getting tired of things not fitting properly, really frustrating! I'm a retired metal worker, I get my **** right, why can't they? I shouldn't have to be shimming anything on this.

Just a mild rant.....
Here is a problem someone may have advise on, 340 with edelbrock aluminum heads, Doug's header will not come close to fitting even with a Borgeson steering box. Any thought on what might fit

The engine is in and should be in to stay. Still need to rebuild the steering coupler and install it. Once that's done I'll be bolting on the suspension and steering.
