Lets make the best real world *MPG* THREAD EVER !!

63 Dart, slant six turbo, home built headers, too big of a turbo, T5 3.45 rear gears (Can't remember for sure), FiTech. Can't keep my foot out of it. 12-15 MPG. Tuned for performance. Sure I could get 25 or so if took it easy. 1
Stock 170.

Wasn't hard to build but made many changes as I went. I started with a Classic Fast MPFI but didn't like all the clutter from the wiring. Changed to a FITECH as I'm not going to race, just cruise. Runs great for a bone stock 170. Bellhousing was a custom unit. 4 wheel disc brakes.

Also custom gauge panel, Chevy V6 MSD distributor I adapted to work. Rear end is the 7.5 with strange axles which I narrowed myself and P-Track, stock ford disc brakes rear, Wilwood 4 piston disc on front. Don't have any other pictures as changed phones and lost them. Thanks for asking.

My 68 barracuda with a fairly worn 318, stock cam, stock heads with 340 valve springs, performer intake,670 holley, dougs headers, 904 with 2800 stall, 3.23 gears and 26” tire will still get around 16-17 mpg at 60.

2003 dakota with 3.9 5spd, 3.23 with 29” tires and 375,000 miles still gets 19-20 mpg at 65 mph. I’m the original owner of the dakota, motor has not been rebuilt yet.

85 s-10, 350 with 670 holley, performer intake, comp xe268 hyd flat, headers, 700r4 with 2500 stall, 3.25 gears with 26” tire, 15 mpg average, sometimes 17 if i’m lucky at 65mph

1994 Ram 2500 4x2 5.9, auto 354 in rear 28 mpg hwy 25 towing car on open trailer. In 1994 diesel was cheap. That 12 valve ran well and you did not even know anything was back there.
Sweet spot was 68 mph for very best mileage. Got 30 with A/C blowing cold as ice on night trips plenty of times.
Still would not matter today with them numbers as,would be way cheaper than a few truck

My Dart sucks down gas like the booze swilling babe at the office New Year's Eve party, but it's my fault, I can't keep my foot out of it, it's too much fun! With gas prices going up I'm going to try to drive like a sane person just to see what it will get.

Dad still has his 1976 Feather Duster that he has owned since probably '97 or '98. It regulary got 32/33 mpg on the highway. 225, 3 speed with overdrive and 2.76 rear (7.25) if I remember correctly. We will get around to fixing it some day and it will go back to original. While we are not purist types, there simply isn't many of these left.

28 mpg with a 5.9 auto are you sure ? Ahahaha usualy they have a hard time having 10 or even 15...let me know im very curious

My Grandfather bought a new Dodge Colt in the early 80s, it had an EPA highway est. of 50mpg, he told me 1 time he got that 50mpg but normally it would get 48-49 mpg.

Had to wash dirt off engine. Live in west Texas and winter brings in dust storms. My shop bays are full of other projects. Almost 72 years old and working to finish everything asap! LOL

14.2 Mpg

1968 dodge dart 2 door hardtop with :

1972 225 slant engine, very stock. Very well worn junkyard engine.

1976 cast iron 833 OD transmission.

1973 7.25 rear end with 2.94 open gears.

The car is a slug off the line and takes some revs to get moving. On the highway it sings, I don't have a tachometer but Its a comfortable rpm on the highway. I am at altitudes over 5k.

No matter how miss magoo I try to drive, the mileage doesn't really change, it's 14.2 and that's all I'm getting out of it.

You missed the fact that it was a 5.9 12 valve diesel was 1st year is second gen. Those 12 valves were slow 175hp slow. But had Toqure out the YaYa

Man I took a hammering here from several guys on how I couldn’t tune worth a shot when I said I was getting 17 mpg’s on the Hwy.

I am sure you did what you could but I never found these engines in great shape to get the almighty reported 30+!

What? AJ ain't come in here yet to brag about his 60 MPG slant 6 in a 5k pound vehicle while loaded with 10K pounds and pullin twelveteen fat women on a trailer behind him in a 150 MPH headwind?

My old 1975 Plymouth Duster. 25 MPG on the highway. 318, 2 bbl 999 automatic and a 2.45 gear 8 1/4” rear. 1973 340 manifolds and full stock dual exhaust.

Motor was bone stock except a 71 318 single plane 2 bbl intake and a carter 2 bbl carb. Electronic ignition, and I added B van (1986/1987 cruise control kit)

Transmission was a 999 (lockup 904 with a 2.75 first gear) built it from spare Dakota warranty parts. Electric lockup, just add 12 volts.

2.45 final drive ratio. 195/75/14 tires always run at 36 psi when traveling.

cruise on at 60/62 MPH, in the days of 55 MPH speed limit. That was my mixture and that was in the early 90’s.

Cliff Ramsdell

Duster is the middle car.
