Mopar Muscle induction Extravaganza Dyno testing SBM intakes, comparison....

-
torker family of single plane intakes for big blocks got a real bad rap there for a while,
The B engine was temperamental with any single plane lacking convertor and gear thus the bad rap.
The RB saw gains on the upper end and didn't loose much torque on the bottom with the Torker.
The Holley street dominator and Edelbrock RPM are the best for use on the B engine, RB there are many that will work and not give up much.

I was a little surprised by the old Torquer small block intake I ported. “Ugly Torquer post) for my son. Hopefully I can replace it with an M1.

no one said that the eddy rpm airgap out performed them on that dyno , that i could read . i've got them all , and that dyno info is letting me lean to my eddy airgap , just one carb to dial in . but that 6 pack is so cool looking !!!

So, they,re making the SAME POWER.

How could engines with the same power, everything else the same, outrun each other. You have no idea what you're talking about about.

Your answer is flippant.
i will relent somewhat, when the whole car is tuned vs not being tuned, there is definitely and advantage

exactly: tire pressure, pinion snubber, cool fuel can, TQ phenolic bowl, schocks, leaf springs, plugs, jetting

I'm skeptical that the dyno results may be getting swayed by advertising dollars from Edelbrock. I know of at least one member here (that I can remeber off the top of my head!) who picked up ET & MPH in a stocke stroke combination by switching to a single plane (An Old TORKER 340 at that!) from an air gap manifold.

Yes OLD Torker
Ive got two possibilities here now

I want it for my 70 Dart

I'm trying to maintain a stock body and stock pices

All speed pieces from 67-75 , except
Chinese air gap, Crane Fireball Cam
Accel coil

And as many pieces "stock" off any factory Mopar, upcoming is the 360 Thermoquad one with a TQ from a 1977 HD truck (800 CFM) (For. Few yrs during the transition to converters
Allowed minimal power Robbing emission circuits.)

I have a friend of a friend that builds TQ's , many for class winning cars.
I already like him, he will not build the car unless it's tuned on a running engine. Heard stories that his carbs are 20 plus HP compared to stock

The Torker will be the icing on the engine cake, I love the streamlined look

Yes, that's a Holley
TQ and manifold later

Yes Torker 2
Later one
I'd say early 70's

Can't find the original production date on the Torker

I want to say 66-67

Anyone know ??
Torker II didn't appear until '80's bro....& more resembled a Holley Street Dominator, which resembled a slightly lower Offy Port-O-Sonic, which is a bit lower than a Holley Strip Dominator......

Street Dominator with a tuned Thermoquad is by far the most off idle responsive, best overall set up ever for me
An earlier Quadrajet, made by Carter, highly tuned wasn't far behind

About 20 years ago, I was at a general car swap meet with very little Mopar stuff. I did find one guy with mostly Mopar stuff, and he had a SBM dual 4 barrel intake manifold. I don't remember the brand, but he was asking $125 for it and probably would have taken $100. I have been kicking myself in the *** for 20 years for not buying that. Even if a good single 4 barrel on a good intake matched the power of two 500 CFM 4 barrels, imagine how cool it would look!
Now, they're $846 Summitt not available now

If you think about it, how little demand there is for them

I always dyno my motors mainly to break them in we don't test to many different parts. However on one of my small blocks years ago we swapped my gasket matched Strip Dominator for an out of the box Victor and it was 13 hp better with no other changes. Most of my motors are in the mid 500 hp range and twice in testing we tried a Holley 950 instead of the 750 I currently run and there was literally no difference in hp or tq. We have also found which everybody knows adding a stroker kit really ups the tq. My current 410 inch motor makes 546 hp and 520 tq on pump gas , 9. 5 to 1 compression , the same motor with 11.5 compression on race gas made 549 hp and 450 tq.

That's a 100 HP increase

A similar test, all other hardware the same, 360 to 408, 34 hp tq and similar HP. You must have one heck of a camshaft

AJ,....Zat You???

lol you want to know what’s funny??

About half way through typing that my fingers and hands started hurting and I said to myself “this is going to be AJ long and someone will come along and call me out on it” lol.

Then Hysteric jumped in with his short, concise and true answer and then I knew I was getting called out.

Too funny!!!!!!!!!

Any thoughts on the torker 340 intake? I had one on my 340 and it was a DOG. When I replaced it with an RPM airgap, the difference was night and day. I always wondered if that's common.

As an aside, I struggled to even get $75 for that torker 340 when I sold it, so I'm guessing everyone knows they suck?

Here’s the flow numbers of a stock old style Torquer intake and a ported Torquer intake on a ported Speedmaster head.

Edelbrock released the “arachnid” line of intake’s before the Torker with names like scorpion and tarantula. The Torker line didn’t show up until the early seventies.
They never made a Mopar Scorpion, unfortunately. I had a Scorpion on a 350 I had in a Nova when I was a kid. It ran good.

For its age and used in that era, does a mildly ported Torker flowing 236 at .500 suck?
Those are the specs on a friends car

I want a Torker for 2 reasons.
I'm using 70's speed parts on my car.
70's Torker were widely known. I love the design.

Secondly, I will be using 360 mag heads drilled for LA pattern for the Torker.

The CH318A Magnum as cast heads flow .227 @ .500

I'm very secure that this will be a good combo after I clean up the Mag heads , I'm hoping this will be enuff for 450 HP after all

Something is worth more to someone w one who desires it
