My home inspection of Speedmaster heads

Up in the intake runners, the straight wall, the pillar protrusion for the head stud, as cast it protrudes about a 1/4" +/-
Still there, my MK-1 eyeball says .150.
Got to have a boss for the bolts. LOL the original heads were designed for production and not for performance. Kind of like the exhaust bolts threaded into water jackets. What were they thinking? You can cast a boss in there but at a cost and complexity.

Was just wondering how much it was reduced. Making it straight would likely require breaking through, epoxy and tubing the holes.

It takes about 20 minutes max to tube all 4 head bolt holes. I’ll post up the needed tubing sizes when I get mine. [ATTACH

IIRC (I may be thinking about BBM heads I did back in 2013) there is a bolt boss that hangs down into the port. I ground it out of there, but there was a bulge in the port where the oil feed gallery comes between the ports and I didn't screw with it much. My butt puckered with thoughts of a small fracture developing after 50 runs or something and filling the cylinder full of oil.

I know God hates a coward but that made me a bit queasy so I let it be!

I'm really considering doing an all out porting job on these myself, safe to say I'm not using all this stuff on a 4x4 318 beater........um, I do have another vehicle though!:lol: I'd definately be sticking to sound theories and what works on the SB head layout, tubing is something I am a little apprehensive about but am reading up on, watching some videos. I'm game! Thanks!
 
What kind of compression numbers do you think we will get? My 70 318 is supposed to have around 9:1 although that's just a number Ma Mopar came up with. I ran some numbers on the Desktop Dyno which can be a bit skewed, but with 340 manifolds and a Hughes Rattler cam I traded for, I came up with 380 horse and 460 lb/ft of torque. I used the head flow numbers found in another thread. (somewhere) I hope I bookmarked them.
 
Wouldn't it be funny if all this time YR was actually Jpar's wife posting things from magazines, internet & such. No wonder YR gets the best of Jpar and lives in his head :D He'll get his cheesebooger when she gets good and ready to cook him one!

yeah, i'm seeing issues others post that I didn't find on mine. It's why heads should be inspected before use, regardless what another persons experiences.
I noticed a lot of the chips that people are finding are "mostly" on the CNC'ed heads... Which to me makes sense as they were regular heads and sent to a machine shop probably by the pallet load...

We have an a body group here in town that meets once a month at the local pizza shop and we had a picture like that with probably a couple dozen of us. Lol it was in my opinion the Federation of white people LOL.. there was such a lack of diversity it made me almost uncomfortable...

Just to say, we all want to be liked and accepted here. The red X is kind of a slap in the face. We can all disagree but the dreaded red X is too much "in your face".
