Non-Mopar car you wish you had purchased?

WOW, I would be pissed.....................I was in the Army myself and have seen some stupid things.
I was not amused. When 194th Armored came back, the lot was emptied. Whatever was left, the civilians decided was abandoned.
I wasn't the only one that it happened to.

At about age 11 I saw a Pantera for the first time. I waited around for a couple hours for the owner, just so I could get to drool on the car, but no one showed up. I doubt that I could get my 6 ft 7 inches in the seat today, but I would sure like to try, same goes for the GT40 Fords. My brother and I had a discussion about buying a GT40 several years ago, when the 2005/2006 models were still somewhat "affordable", as an investment.
During the late '80's I was working for a Ma & Pa auto parts and machine shop place in Mpls (Riteway Motor Parts on Glenwood Ave, for the local guys here), and I had a chance to buy a black DeTomaso Pantera with a blown head gasket from one of the service garages we delivered to. Seems the owner of the vehicle balked at the price of the repair and walked away from the car, so the garage pulled a lien on it, and once they got the Title they offered it up for sale. I was going to "Da U" at the time and couldn't afford the $2,000 they were asking for it, as-is.....

I still kick myself over that one.

High school shop teacher was selling a car back in 72. I told mom & dad it was a 59 Chevy. It was, a Corvette. :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:
I found a 65 Dart instead. And here I am.

Around 1980 I lived in the Highlind Park area of St Paul . There was a 68 Chevelle SS 396 4sp car for $800. It had a dent in the 1/4 panel so I passed….Had my 70 Charfer SE 383 Magnum car at the time so no where to park it .

About the same time there was a Pantera on the floor at Parts Unlimited near Lake Calhoun. Not for sale that I remember but still cool !

Turned down not one, but two, 1970 LS6 4 speed Vert Chevelles... this was in the early mid 80's.

The gold one didn't bother me as much as passing on the triple black one. Nice cars!
They were a whopping 3-4K back then. Super clean 68-70 Hemi B's were in the 5-8 range. LOL

Then the 69 428SCJ Mustang and Torino.

Lots of cool stuff floating around in the 80's. Didn't have room to put them.

Plenty of Mopars too.

In 1983 I had a chance to to buy a dark green 67 Z28 302 4spd for a 650 bucks.
Body and interior was perfect but the engine needed crank work( rod knock).
If I'd only knew then what I know now.
I also missed out on a perfect 67 GTX body for 135 bucks and 4spd for 25.

Over the many decades, so many Mopars have come and gone, and a few GM cars to flip quickly, as in some Corvettes.
I have always loved the "art" of many brand X and Y and Z cars, but some have NO art (beauty) at all I guess!
I have always lusted after a 66 Fairlane and a 64 Comet Cyclone with that ram air hood. I have both somewhat still projects. No wishing here!!!!

What I wished I had bought?? I have always wanted a 55 Chevy and missed my chance 20 odd years ago for one that was a complete, solid rust free Mo. car, but just needed the usual easy work for a driver. $3000 seemed high back then! Or was it $2500?? Tri five projects today are too poor and high $ and I would not pay the $ for a good one IF I could!

Could have traded my '87 Ranger 4x4 for a '67 Cougar back around 1996. It was a dark blue, factory 390 car. The interior was rough,as well as the quarters. I told myself that I had no other Ford stuff at the time, vso I passed. The car may still be there, but I have enough projects now. Maybe sometime?

started full time work in 75. A V8 Maverick was a new car I wanted. By the time I had enough for down payment...they stopped making them.
Used car: 68 Nickey Camaro, L88,4-speed with 4.56 gears. $1,000. I was a hundred short when a friend bought it.

73 or 74 AMC Hornet hatchback, the one pictured was the James Bond edition, once I seen that Bond movie when 007 drove it out of the showroom window I always wanted one, there is actually a black one about 100km from my house that’s been sitting in a guys yard for a few years I got my eye on, maybe one day…….

that reminds me of the SC/360 Hornet in the church parking lot where my cousin was married. Dad drove over to the car and then tookm off before I could get out and get a phone number. I think I was 14 or so at the time. I was bummed!

I passed on a 76 Trans Am with the 400 V8 once. It needed a front clip. It was cheap enough but I had nowhere to put it. It was black with the gold bird on the hood with the shaker scoop etc.

I have always wanted a saab 95 or 96. Preferably a round headlight version.

I found a project car one time about 200 miles away but didn't buy it because it was missing quite a bit and they are quite rare to find parts for in middle America.

there was a shop near us that specialized in Saabs. at least, that's what it appeared with at least half a dozen sitting out front. unless, they were the owners project cars!

This is a car that I did buy, but traded to my Ford buddy. A 1970 Mercury Marauder X100, It was a 2 dr hdt, high compression 429, bucket seats auto on floor. I got it running after sitting in the guys driveway for several years. I think it was rated at 370 hp and that SOB ran hard. But it was that light mist green with a dark green interior, which I hate. But I wish that I still had it. That 429 ran harder than any 460 I've ever seen, but then again, this isn't Ford country around here.

All it needed was a $350 HF compressor, a $40 gun, and a gallon of paint in your favorite color!!!!!

I've wanted an AMC javelin and an AMC eagle for decades. I've just never found the right deal when I have cash to spend.

I remember looking at a Datsun 260 Z on a used car lot once they were chick magnets back in the late 80s...I did have a Datsun B 210 for a little while that was a tough little car i tried to kill it and it wouldnt die.

I passed on a 69 Z28 that I stumbled onto at work one day. It was a roller sitting under a lean to shed on the side of a barn. Silver with black stripes and had the RS front end on it. The 302 and Muncie were long gone, but neither were hard to find in the early 80's. Guy told me he'd take $1000 for it, and I remember thinking..."Nah, not for a belly button." :realcrazy:

The problem is in the late 70's and early 80's when the killer deals were out there I didn't have a pot to piss in. lol
1979 I bought a black on black 71 Charger with a 318 and dented passenger door for $ 200, bought a door for 80 and a 440/ torqueflite at the local junk for $150. that was the beginning of my Charger project.
Going back a couple years I bought the basket case 67 fastback in my avatar for $35 and dropped a fresh 383 in it that I built in auto shop as a project.
The Charger is long gone, but I still have the fastback sporting a potent 451.
Had many $100 dollar pre 67 Darts in the early days as daily drivers.
