Post up your cheap paint jobs!

-
Although this paint job was done in the 90's, it only cost me $400.00 and it still looks pretty decent. The car was originally white with a copper stripe, but was already black when I got it. It is a California car and the paint job was beautiful on the side of the car when I got it, but the top was completely burned up and mostly missing. The paint was really thick, so I am assuming it was enamel, but the paint on it now is 2 stage. I think I got my $400.00 worth!! Geof

After tons of prep work I had about $400 in each of these in Epoxy, 2k, base and clear. That doesn't include materials for masking, cutting and buffing.

About 35-40 bucks in this one. All done in the drive way, even had to turn it around to keep it in the sun.

And some years later it has a perfect patina to it!!!

It isn't perfect by any means but it runs everyday and turns heads!

Gotta like that! What kind of paint? Fun thread.

I used my local hardware store's housebrand paint called 'Gold Circle'.
Takes a couple of hours to dry and a day to cure, but it dries very smooth without any streaks when applied by a roller.
The orange paint was done 4 coats as it didn't cover very well, but the black paint covered in 1 coat.

Since this is just a daily driver, I painted the doorpanels with some old VHT vinylpaint I still had laying around and used leatherpaint on the rearseat to turn it from brown to black, to match the rest of the interior.

Those don't look bad at all.

Forgot about this one. It's about $40 worth of Chalkboard paint.

The guy that preped and painted my car said he new what he was doing , especially with black." you have to take your time and get all the ripples out, he said". I used Viper black ,was not cheap. He said he painted it in a down draft booth. Theres crap all through the paint and clear coat ,not to mention runs.

I used rustolium gloss protective enamel from home depot. The car was in prime for eight years before i did this, i just fine sanded it and cleaned it before rattle canning it orange. My finger hurt for a week i almost couldn't spray the cans by the end!

Trying to think where I've seen those rims - something factory?
I like them on the Duster. I also like how flat paint shows a Dusters lines. I'm tempted to do mine in flat black. For UV protection, maybe a flat clear. Not sure if that makes sense.

those wheels are keystone classics, made by cragar. very popular in the 60s and 70s.

I painted my car for about $400 in paint and primer. DuPont Omni black base, Eastwood epoxy primer, evercoat filler primer, Matrix clear coat. I painted it myself in my garage.

I was hoping that you would post yours flyboy01.... I followed your 68 resto thread for a long time. I'll have to go back and look at it again. I know that you raised a few eyebrows when you showed everyone what you were going to paint yours with.

King George, always nice to see your stuff as well, such quality work..... always amazed by you!!

As for the door panels on the cheap side I did my own as well. Here's the link to the thread.

Lou you really have come a long way with your car.

Thanks Cliff we are fully primed [these are older photos] now doing finish body work and repriming, hopefully we will have paint on it by sometime in january. Then suspension, swap out rear axle, start installing glass, interior ect. I can't beleve we bought this thing in april of 2010 and have been chipping away at sheetmetal since. We hoped to have a driving project by Mopars at Merit's 2013 but it ain't gonna happen.
