I think I'm solidly in the 12s for the time being and until further improvements.

-65 Valiant Signet. ~3200# with me in it, full interior, full tank of gas. Has a glass hood and no front bumper. Original Slant 6/904 car.
-5.9 Magnum, LXGuy inspired budget build.
-2003 Durango junk yard motor. Stock everything on the bottom end. I had the block cleaned and honed, polished the crank and put new bearings and rings on it and reassembled it.
-Regrind camshaft from Oregon cams. Profile #1357
-Off the shelf EQ heads from Clearwater with the 2.02 valves and springs good for .525. RPM Air Gap, Holley 770 Street Avenger carb. Skip White HEI distributor.
-Hooker super comp semi-fenderwell headers
-Built 727. Reverse manual VB. 9.5 PTC converter. Flashes at 3500RPM
-8 3/4 with 4.30s, spool, 35 spline MW axels.
-Subframe tied. Full exhaust to the back bumper with an H-pipe.
-V8 torsion bars. Original slant leaf springs.
-MT Drag Radials. 235/60s

My best ET to date is 7.98 in the 1/8th which is about a 12.5x in the 1/4. My 60' times are horrible at around 2.00. I need to put some more attention in the suspension to see if I can get it to hook better and improve the 60' times.

Speed is good enough for mid - low 11's, but a 2.1 60ft time is about right for a low 14.

Yeah, I do have a pretty slow 60'. The rear suspension of this car is completely stock with 235/45R17's. I do have a street lynx in my garage ready to go in. No plans to mini-tub, just want to try and fit a 275/40.

I am open to any tips in setting up this suspension and getting a better launch.

Happy with my new combo, 12.34/108.74 1.75 60'
67 Dart 2dr post all steel guessing 3k for weight. 2 buckets, small custom dash, squirrel cage fan for comfort and door panels is the basic interior.
360 Magnum roller, 9.3:1, OEM magnum heads milled .010, .028 head gasket, stock valves, MP crate motor springs, ported by me at home.
Knockoff airgap, demon 650 DP, Lunati roller steel core custom grind 234/236 .495/,475 lift. 108 LSA/106 ICL
999 low gear set, TF2 shift kit Lockup circuit disabled, Turbo Action 10" 3200-3400, 3.91 SG, 27in MT drag radial, Mancini SS springs, 8.75 axle moved back .75", battery in trunk.
Car is a blast, streetable and driven 50 miles to the track. With cooler weather coming down south, a little more tweaking, and better driving on my part it will only get quicker.

89 360 kp dome top pistons 11.5 comp 282 513 lift hydraulic roller cam torker 2 intake 456 gears 850 holly dpcarb stock heads no work crank turned 10 10 on motor ran 7.75 straight off trailer it's in a 84 fox body mustang with 28.10.5 slick ran 6.93 on 125 shot putting a set of j heads with 3 angle valve job hope it helps1.6 60 ft on motor dropped to 1.4 on 125 shot

I think I'm in the 12s now so I thought I'd post here. Junkyard 2001 5.9 magnum. Just freshened it up with rings and bearings so I'm still running stock Pistons, rods, crank and heads. Had comp custom grind the cam on an LA core so I could run a mechanical fuel pump. Cam is 230/236 duration at .050, .506/.513 lift with the stock 1.6 magnum rocker ratio. Edelbrock air gap, Holley 750 DP and cheap summit headers. Running an x pipe and 2.5 inch flow masters.

It's got 90/10 shocks up front and ss springs in the back. 8 3/4 with 3.91 sure grip. This has been a poor mans budget build over the last few years so I'm pretty proud of it. I've gotten tons of good advice from some wise folks on this forum. Also learned a lot from lxguy and magnum swap.com

That 60 ft time is also largely due to the ultimate 3,800 stall converter.

Ran best of 7.88 @ 86 MPH in the 1/8th. Still got some tuning to do because I think I'm losing time down the track according to the 1.68 60 ft time.

You are definitely low to mid 12s.
My combo 12.34/108.74 1.75 60' is very similar and like you still tuning. I wish I had your 60' time.

Yeah my 60ft time is great just not sure why I'm losing time down the track. Total timing is set at 36 so next time out I'm going to back that down to 34 and see what it does. My dad thinks too much timing could be hurting my top end. Also got to play with carb jetting. Can't wait to get a widebband air fuel gauge installed.

I'm at 27* initial, 34* total. Ran 32* and motor performs better at 34*

Great run Walker! Almost identical combo to mine. My last run I hit a 7.78 at about 89mph. Wish my 60ft was as good as yours though! My mph has never been that stellar. My thought is that these magnums are great low to mid range torque monsters but run out of legs in third. I have my total timing at 38 and have tried lower with no noticeable difference. The best mod i ever did was to remove the aircleaner before the race. : )

Wow you shaved a lot off the 60 ft time. Did you make changes or was it just better air and weather?

Looks like you and me would be one hell of a close race right now! If I could get my transmission to do the 2-3 shift higher than 4000 rpm, I might see an 11 second pass.

A few things.
Better air 74* but 80%+
Bumped my launch rpm from 2200 to 2400
Did a little more burnout and set the MT Street Drag radial to 17.5 psi
Also I am getting better at staging the car in a consistent routine; same engine temp, same burnout rpm etc.

I leave the line in 2nd and have my throttle valve linkage setup to shift at 5400 for a 1-2 auto shift, then I manually shift to 3rd by tone around 5500.

I'd love to line up with you. A fender race would be a blast.

Weather was 55* and low humidity last night, car ran 11.946 @111.66
60' 1.644
1/8 7.564 @90.02

Actually weighed the car and it's 3360 full fuel with driver.
99% sure my carb is dialed in. Still tweaking pump shot cams and nozzles.
I cross the line at 5500 RPM motor still pulling, so I'm gonna try some 26" Hoosier QTPs and see if they let the motor RPM a little more at the stripe.

Nice Job mderoy340!!! :cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:

Crazy what a few tweaks here and there can get a car to do.

The best part is they are usually cheap or free.

Made another tweak today. Changed rear shock 70/30 to 50/50 and will see what happens Friday.

Set a new best ET tonight. 7.64/89.5MPH in cool 67 degree air. These JY magnum builds can run! I spun it a little harder than usual (6200 RPM) and it pulled all the way thru. I'm bogging a little off the line with the vacuum secondaries. I think with a double pumper I could pick up a tenth.

That's DEEP in the 12's and almost 11's range! Congrats on the improvements!

Congrats! Cool air is great. I ran last night, north of you in Orlando at 54*.

Thanks! How'd you do?
I think if the humidity dropped a little more down here we would have perfect conditions. Cool air, low humidity and only like 3" above sea level!

New best for me.
60' 1.644
1/8 7.55 @ 90.38
1/4 11.915 @ 112.16
5500 RPM at the stripe.
Going back Sunday and will switch the 255/60/15 MT ET Streets to Hoosier QT Pro 26/9.50/14 and see if I can get a little more.

A DP will help your 60' out for sure. I'm running a Race Demon GC 650 DP, 1" 4 hole spacer, 12.4 AFR WOT. I've altered stock jetting and bleeds to fit my combo for street/strip since I drive 50 miles to run the car. If you decide to upgrade your carb, try and get one with all the passages drilled and tapped for tuning.

15yrs ago I had a 65 valiant with a 340, 904 with low gear set and 4.30s. It had unported heads with iron 1.5 intake and crane roller 1.6 exh. With a 484 mp cam. Trw pistons, Holley strip dominator and a 780 Holley. Msd distrib and a 6a. Hooker fenderwell with dump caps, 2 1/2 pipes to the front of the rear. 26x15 sportsman pros. Super stock springs. Fuel cell with Holley blue pump.
Ran 12.0s at 108. Last time at LVD it broke a tooth on the ring gear, I drove it home 1 1/2hrs and parked it. Then cut it up. Still have motor trans rear exhaust
