Took the cuder out for an errand, as I was backing out of the space of the store, I noticed a big oil stain on the asphalt and noticed a trail leading to the spot where I parked. Glancing down at the oil gauge... zero, oh ****, I pulled over to the side of the building, killed it and popped the hood expecting the worse. Dipstick showed full, shew, looked under, seen no drips, then thought hey no rattling, should be alright.

I wiggled the connector on the OSU and shut the hood, got in and went on my way. Gauge slowly came up to normal. That was scary, but not the SOB part. Nearly home and a dipshit pulls right the f out in front of me, I lock em up hard, no time to honk the horn, 2 hands on the wheel bracing for impact, I was sure it was going to be a dead on Tbone.
I just cleared the tail of that car, all 4 wheels were lock up and left the biggest cloud of smoke I ever seen coming off my car, must have skidded 30 or so feet easy. SOB, what a adrenaline dump. They left of course and was only able to roll the window down and give them the ol 1 finger salute. Man it`s been decades I`ve had to do a panic stop on any of my vehicles:BangHead::steering:

The good thing is you cleared the other car and you can settle your nerves and move on.

The oil stain is disturbing because what the hell is that all about......

I always hope that thoses oil stains and oil trails in the parking lots are from someone else's vehicle.

Like smelling anti-freeze when you are city driving, hope that's not me....

I am VERY glad that you and your car are all right. I had a friend who spent several years restoring a VW Bug to perfection. I was still in the Air Force at Little Rock AFB, so it must have been about 1988. On his VERY FIRST drive, some idiot ran a red light (or a stop sign, I don't remember) and T-boned him. He was OK, but the car was totally destroyed. The other guy had State Farm, and my friend had to fight to get a fair settlement. That is why, to this day, I do NOT like State Farm.

Thanks bud, I`ve had the old girl for... sheesh, 27 years now.
Scared the **** out of me, I can only hope it scared the **** out of him/her too. I was concentrating on impact, don`t even know if it was a girl or guy.
All I know it was a late model Pontiac and they probably live in my subdivision, they were coming out of the main entrance, I mostly use the next one down. I`ll see them someday and ask, hey remember?...

Previous panic stops I`ve had in the car, "just once or twice" it always pulled a little hard left, thank God it slid a little right and just missed them.
Yes, still 4 drum brakes. lol

be careful saying that, you might keep that on the low low because you might get a lecture on how irresponsible it is to have drums, what if you needed to panic stop a second within 2 minutes of the first one, that could have been bad.

My turn was just 50 yards further down the road. she slowed down good. lol

Yeah bud, what are the chances you see that and look down at your gauge, see zero, and oh ****, thinking it`s you, and it`s just a bad sender connection.
Well good. I'm glad that's all it was. That's the kinda thing none of us needs.

When I had my 1970 Dart, I used to daily drive it in the summer months. One day I was going home from work, traveling about 30-35 mph when a very elderly woman decided to make a lazy left turn directly across my lane. I locked up the brakes, (front disc rear drum), and braced for impact. Like you, I left a good sized cloud of tire smoke, but unlike you, I did have an impact. Fortunately the damage was very minor, but the old woman didn't even know there had been a collision.

, I used to daily drive it
Yeah buddy, the more you drive them the more you have the odds stacked against you.
I hit a deer with this car, probably going 50+ mph at night.
I just knew the grill would be all busted up. Pulled over at a lit up gas station to check the damage. The RF fender must of caught her *** and spun her around. A big wad of hair was stuck around a screw a PO installed on the trim and it tweaked the bumper over and chipped a little paint. That was it, lucked out again.

Tires are flat spotted now, they'll lock up too easily next time You need to brake firm, sucks but at least You avoided the collision. Happened to Me in the Blue Buckaroo, '90 Omni w/V-rated Fuzzyonions(Fuzions), those cheap tires rolled true & stuck like glue....then some dingbat pulled out in front of Me on the way to work, same show, & they were ruined.

About the first thing that came to mind afterwards.
I didn`t notice any humping the rest of the way home, doesn`t mean they don`t have flat spots probably.
Their hard as rock BFGs timed waaaaay out. When/if I do a burnout, they just squall, no smoke. Boy let me tell ya they smoked locking them up like that.
They really need replaced anyhow, IF, I can find what I need. It won`t be BFGs if I can help it.

Scary stuff for sure, glad you came out not making impact! Good idea to get those BFGs swapped asap. When I occasionally drive my Duster nowadays it tends to be to and from work, worst times of day but don't get many other chances. Needless to say I watch the traffic around me like a hawk. I put LEDs in the taillights years ago out of fear of being rear-ended. It also has 255/40-18 Continentals up front and late B-body front discs from Dr. Diff, added all that for track days but it sure helps with emergency stops on the street.
