Stock 318 building with Justin

Went and picked up the heads today. They changed the exhaust guides out and for some reason decided to cut the guides for .500 seals.. which is really a laugh since I planned on cutting them myself to .530 and had purchased those seals. So after saying thank you no thank you.. took them home and touched up the "valve job" they did. I'll blend it later. The 75 just kissed the bowl. Going to blend it later. Also unshrouded the exhaust with a couple diff size stones and touched it with a carbide. Measures 3.9388 across. Cylinder Bore is 3.94

SO I guess now you have to get 1/2" seals? You shouldda made them supply them.
 
Probably will. But i actually ordered some down the street at another shop, so finit's fine. I have 8 here, just need 8 more.

I'm not sure I could have held my composure with some crap like that.
 
They also used too big of a seat on the exhaust. 'One size fits all' when you're a redheaded rod chomper I guess.
 
Flow tested the heads with the hack vj 'as cast port and short side' and then with my own and light short side blend, just rounded off the edges like in the 318 average joe porting thread.
Hack int peaked @ 173cfm by .500 w/160's cfm below...

Machine shops vj 'what looks like a fresh 30,45 over the factory vj' vs my vj of 70,45,30,15, over theirs keeping the factory 60 that was fine.to give 6 ' in total ' angles on the Intake.
 
Okay so we know now that the more angles help the airflow. Air doesn't know the diff between the angles or a radius when done in 15* increments, food for thought.
I kept them right at/about .055-.060 width.fwiw.
We also know a basically bone stock #163 318 smog head does 173 cfm on the intake. Comparing to other castings.. there seems to be a spread between all the castings of 5-8cfm peak. I really like the floors in these heads, they are laid back like a 273 era casting, but with more meat under the seat 'so to speak'. I'd like to work out a way to get 200cfm without all the porting i was doing before with the 'bargain' 2 angle vj. Goal is to do just a lil straight side ssr work and then lay the vj onto it and end up with 200cfm..without profiling the guide would be nice. The 318, though too small, are really a well designed port. The floor approaches more even to the turn as cast and roof more straight and flowing. Very little is needed to make them comparable to a as cast 1.88 360 head. The short turn on the intake is laid back as cast...

Yep, Radar used a Serdi on mine. I wish I had them flowed just for curiosity.

Never head that problem, but I too like thicker guides at the top. Some things that look esthetically pleasing make zero difference, others do. You can manipulate things with angles for the better or worse, depending on the rest of the tract.
 
with most duals you can use the larger or even larger stem seals
I've had the .5 split right after machineing others after running and motor starts using oil

OOOH TQ or TQ replacement all day long
