Stop in for a cup of coffee

Hmmm now here’s a riddle. Ordered a crank bolt for that 383, got it in, too small for the crank, walk over to the spare 440 crank perfect fit. WTF? I don’t recall B series have bigger crank balancer bolts?!
difference is the RV 440 and the 383. I think.
BTW, you can usually tell the cast crank by the damper. It will either say
"use on cast crank only" or something similar, or it will have an eccentric
look to the inner hub from the front. The standard thin damper for forged
cranks is concentric in every way.
Good Luck!

Done with the wheel covers. This is the third set I've bought and cleaned.
I'm not sure what it is, but every set has had a gray fine coated film that took some ump to take off.
Got them put back together and ready to go back on the car. Took the other set and packed them up.
Maybe take them to Carlisle. Didn't see a set of them last summer so they'd probably sell quick.

Let me clarify. The diameter of the bolt is too small. Both cranks are forged cranks. Internally balanced

Well this day totally sucked.
Ran the needle scaler cleaning the hoist. Powdercoat and rust.
Shop is a disaster...
5 hours of that thing buzzing away. All the rails, and one deck is done. Guess leaf blower will be handy for dusting the shop.

Are those just all chrome? No painted lines, etc? That was the biggest part of mine - taping off to spray the details.

That is strange, bet you got the wrong bolt. For SB engine. Just a guess...
That’s what I thought at first. But it fits the 440 crank. Could it be an aftermarket crank? I mean this thing has been decked, has aftermarket rods and pistons with a CR of 13:1. And a comp cam to support it. Could they have stuffed an aftermarket crank in this thing and if so? How would I tell

You think the crank bolt was helicoiled, and when the bolt was removed, it took the helicoil with it?

Upholstery is awesome. Looking at the finished product and saying”wow i’m really shitty at that”.
Thats me, btw.
When i order vinyl for my door panels i will double it.

The guy here who is close to Joel's talent went out of business. I was going to have him do the interior. If price is right Joel might be the man.
Thinking new seats, probably a console, headliner, and trunk. Nothing too hard for him.
In a nice custom way I want to keep the 55 look. The engine and body is done. Just need a better looking interior.

Having owned my own custom auto Upholstery business, I can tell you it takes a lot of practice and experience to become good at it. But, just like everything else, it really isn’t that hard to do once you learn how.

The main reason I retired from doing it was the carpal tunnel syndrome that was developing. I used to spend every night soaking my hands and wrists in very hot water followed by long soaks in ice water just to be able to make a fist again.

Harumph....
