Stop in for a cup of coffee

Thread is Performance Timing
Halifaxhops dragged me into it.
Then he disapeared. LOL

I think what's going on is Dazed has been all over the internet reading different things and mixing them up.
Getting things mixed up electrical wise is not hard to do. I’ve done it. More times than I can count. That’s why at work, we have a guy who’s not very mechanical inclined and his mechanical design skills lack, where as his electrical understanding and design skills are the best of the team. So him and I have an agreement, he handles the electrical stuff and I handle the mechanical and when we get time, we try and cross train each other. Pretty good system so far.

Well, looked at his last post, a quick scan over the thread,2 things come to mind
more money than brains
And dont know sugar from ****..
Only my opinion,
Mileage may vary.

its frustrating because he claims people were gving him contradictory info.
But basically everyone in the thread was on the same page. Some slightly different approaches but nothing that could be considered contradictory. I think he was asking on other forums or jumping around the 'net. If something wasn't clear he should have asked before doing.

I do feel bad for helpless people. I try to choose my words carefully.
Guy on another forum needs help with an engine swap in a fargo,i offered to help,pm my info stating we should talk about it. For one, he needs some parts which i offer for free. Said my welder was portable and i would be happy to help. Basically gas money and a few bucks for wire and gas.
Has zero fab experience and is shopping for a welder. I’m out.

Makes you wonder.

I suspect at least for some (many) its the devaluation of skills and knowledge in our society, coupled with the marketing man's hype that buying the gadget will provide the means and ability.

Combined with the “pay someone else to do it” attitude, people don’t take time to learn new skills.

I know I’m an idiot, especially when it comes to electrical, but I do try to listen and learn. Course I ask a thousand questions, 900 of them repeats haha. But I eventually learn it. Or at least enough of it to be dangerous.

it’s kind of why I converted the Polara back to points when most people are going the other way. I wanna learn how to tune and deal with points. Why? Because I like learning old methods and technologies that few my age even know ever existed.

“Why dont you put in pertronics”
Because i want it simple.

im getting tired of all the diagnostics lately. Simple is how
i want it.

We don't need no stinkin' distributors!

I'll admit I'm always drawn to the earlier most primitive mechanism. Whether its distributors or brakes or anything.
Got a lot to learn.
Was watching the guys start up a model T on Thanksgiving, trying to see what they were doing and how it worked.
Might be magneto ignition. I should do a 'net search.
neat stuff.

This one had a distributor in it

But the one I was watching the guys start did not.

Those of us who grew up setting the gap on the points with nothing but a matchbook cover in the field know exactly what you mean. A Zippo pocket file and a matchbook cover plus a flat blade screw driver is all we needed to keep on rolling down the road.

I still have my pocket file...handed to me personally by Wil who was CEO of Sunoco. He gave one to everyone as we boarded the company bus to watch the Sunoco race team run at Pocono. I was 14 years old and the memory stuck with me forever.

Evening, looks like I need to do a ton of back reading. No idea what's going on.

I had a busy *** day. Hit every red light kind of day. Then it was cold and windy and kinda miserable. Saw a wreck on the way home, close enough to see the full impact but far enough to not be involved.

Crazy day, it was just nuts.
