Stop in for a cup of coffee

A lot of the waiters and waitresses here have been reassigned to help with take-out and curb-side pick-up. I know a few and they are amazed at the tips, generosity and kindness of the customers.

America at its finest.
We did curb side at one of our weekly favorites. Wife got a $9 sandwich and I gave them a $4 tip. PS I had Thai leftovers.

The front doorbell just rang a few minutes ago. I hesitantly opened the door to see my neighbor from down the street standing at the end of the front walk about 10’ away.

He said “I saw you bring a case of beer in the house the other day, would it be too much to ask if you could pick one up for me the next time you go? I really don’t want to go anywhere I don’t need to visit right now if I can help it.”

Both he and his wife are in their late 70s and I could see the deep concern in his eyes.

I said that I absolutely would, but in the mean time please wait here for a minute...I will be right back.

I then went and grabbed one of the cases that I bought the other day and brought it out.

I told him to just take it and don’t worry about paying me for it. I also told him that if he and his wife need supplies, just let us know and we will try to get them when we are out.

I put the case down on the front step and told him to wait until I closed the door to take it...and be sure to wash your hands when you get it home! I smiled and said “Because you can’t be too safe in these times.”

5 minutes later his wife called my wife thanking her profusely for our kindness. My wife explained that we are here whenever you need something and don’t be shy about asking. We want you as our neighbors for a long time to come.

A little kindness and a terrifying time just became a little less so for them..and us.
And that’s how it’s done!

talked to mom, said we will bring her anything she needs, but we wont be visiting. Can call anytime though.

Thanks Dave
we’re fully stocked and still able to get supplies for now. The hard part is being stuck in the house, I’m used to being outside most of the time!
You have a yard?
That was a requirement for me. It may be small but had to have one in front and one in back, plus a porch!
Just planted some more radish and spinach this evening in the neighbors yard. We'll see what germinates. Pushing the edge on soil temperatures but it is worth the try.

That’s the way to do it!

We are all in this together and need to help each other as much as we can. It’s not hard to share a little as we can to help others...we just need to decide to do it.

If this thing ultimately takes me out, I want to go knowing I did all I could to help others survive for a new day...and perhaps remember what I did to help.

Wife was just talking about that, expecting some sun and decent weather for a few days. Should be able and get out in the yard at least.

That's good. Rain expected tonight for us. But clearing tommorrow.
Speaking of which I'm going to put the Wagon in the garage. rear side window has a leak. :(

My 1st grade granddaughter is now out of school for a few weeks. She'll be here two or three days a week. I think I'll have her help me research, plot, and plant a small garden out back. It will give her hopefully a life skill, and a memory of something special we did together that year when school was cut short.

Neighbor cut grass already today! I have some getting tall in ‘the dogs area’. Partly because she fertilizes it. And partly cause it gets over fertilized, dies, and then get fresh better seed.

Cut the lawn WTF its March!! I hold out as long as I can, usually late April. I can say I have one of the nicest lawns in the neighborhood. I water, fertilize, and mow it high. Nothing more. In Kansas, cut it short and the hot summer sun will toast it.

Maybe tomorrow I will try to start the mower. My charger died, so hope the battery is OK. Its less than a year old

Their old mower would destroy it when cut short. They got a new mower last year and always cut too short now in my opinion...The ‘kid’ doesn't live at home anymore, but still cuts it. So buzz it short and wait till its too high...

Cutting short is no good. My buddy gets on the mower and drops the deck. Then clumps and windrows of grass that i dont like. Thats why i do it all myself.

Neighbor across the street runs a garden at their church. She was saying for the little ones, they sprout some bean seeds so the kids can see how plant emerges . Maybe a little soil on a paper towel? I can't remember quite how she said they have the kids do it.
She also said the kids love pulling the carrots out of the ground, whereas the older folks are much more into growing the greens.
I remember as a kid liking picking peas and stringbeans the most. We never had great carrots. Probably soil too rich and not sandy enough.

I pulled some stones left on the surface from the paver walk and patio work last Summer today and filled the holes with fresh soil. Then I over-seeded the spots and some other thin spots in the yard.

It is raining lightly now, perfect to get the seed hydro-coat to gel up and stick it in place for the rains expected later in the week.

Not trying to make a golf course lawn, just filling in the bare spots to make it more even.

Funny you mention golf course. I have a Clipper power reel from my parents that's been sitting in the garage since 1998. Most of their lawn was zoysia. Other than for a lawn like that, its really (or reeelly) for putting greens and such. I should find it a new home.

Forgot to mention. Stopped by the supermarket this afternoon. Most things in stock but no tissue/towel paper goods on the shelf, no rice except basmati, very little in the dried beans, no flour. So not that different than what some of you observed.

My wife went up around noon. Got some macaroni. Hardly any on the shelf. Said not a lot of people there. Probably figure nothing left to buy.

70 degree day, so it was power wash day.

I'm really starting to know this car and all its strong points and all the little things wrong with it, but at least it's a turn key now.

Well, more like.... turn screwdriver over the selonid......
