Stop in for a cup of coffee

I had Great countermen at all stores. They were all older guys, Back in the 90's they were paid well, probably 5 times what those kids get today. These were family men, supporting their families. Alas , those good ol days are gone forever. Now everyone has to deal with idiots. I can write a very thick book about the Parts Business. Glad Im out, But kept all the Commercial Real Estate..
Mitch, I totally agree. That was exactly my point. Gone are the days where some old crusty guy behind the counter who has forgotten more parts numbers than we will ever know mainlines coffee while he thumbs thru a dog eared manual and knows what you need by only the vaguest of description. Good counter guys were priceless. Haven’t seen one in a long time.

Wife is still in the hospital, complications with Chrones. Other than that busy with distributors right now. Typical spring.

Buddy wanted to do an oil change on his van. I ask that he buys his own oil and filter. Comes back with wrong filter. 2 options, parts guy gave him the more expensive one of the 2,also the less common one.

when he first started in the store,he was a know it all smartass. I had a busy month, and my bill was 3 grand plus. He had no clue i spend that much in parts. He then realized im one of their bigger customers, top 3. Small town, lots of accounts but only a few businesses buy local. Napa makes a delivery run daily. So a few shops use them.

Morning, @MOPARMITCH I know your pain on those sensors. I just had the MAPP sensor on the Cummins die, there's 5 different ones that they use. ranging from 30 bucks to 270 bucks. And there's no way to narrow it down. Its all in the voltage range of the sensor, and they all use the same damn plug.

I really enjoyed working the parts counter. Very little suprised me,as there was such a wide variety of vehicles and machinery in our area. We even mixed paint at one time.
Made thousands of hydraulic hoses too. I did this long before internet was up.

Now, i pull out my phone, start the app, scan the bar code on the door tag or dash vin and hit send. By the time i sit at my desk its there to access all the parts i need.
Dealer item, i screen shot the vin and send it off. No inaccuracy at all on my end.

Growing up had a parts store owned buy a family and a son had a machine shop in the basement. They were great always had what you needed. Square auto parts.

On mechanical side, my snappy scan tool is connected to the web as well, and uploads to a cloud of sorts, which i can access for whatever purpose.printing results, or sending a report to a customer.
I like using this..

they were everywhere, if the store didn't have a machine shop they were behind everyone else.. usually just a good place to get chrome, if you wanted real help you go to the guys with a machine shop because if the store didn't have it then the machine shop could make it for you

He became a good friend of mine, never knew his real first name just the "beard" Hell of a machinist!

Dont know if i mentioned, but last week when i got my bearing kit for the gear swap and it was less of a kit for way more money, my parts guy stepped up and got me $60 back.
One reason why i buy local, he supports my business as well as i support his.

Hahahaha, BBQ all over again.. The governor just lightened the restrictions today, but still no more that 10 people to a group..

I'd be in for the MITP weekend if there was a socially responsible get together....I keep forgetting to cancel my hotel reservation in town....
