There's tons of those old mansions up in NY and in PA often in these very small towns. I'll try to research what was the boom in the area that afforded someone to build something that huge. Town I grew up in had some large textile mills.along the river (hydro powered spinning and looms). They were long gone when I was a kid but the big houses in town were still there.
