Stop in for a cup of coffee

So my wife is at Wavery Hills ghost hunting...
I lived in a house that had ghosts. No kidding.

It was the strangest experience I've ever had. Furniture would rearrange itself, music would play from behind closed doors when there were no radios or stereos in the house and when you would open the door...the music would stop.

You would catch people and animals moving across the room out of the corner of your eye but when you turned and looked, they were gone. All the window shades in a room would open or close themselves after you left the room and came back just minutes later.

When the entire 3rd floor storage area rearranged itself and all the boxes were stacked to the ceiling in pyramids overnight, we moved out.

It was in Newark Delaware, reputedly one of the most haunted towns in America.

LOL! No beer involved. I never drank a drop back then. No drugs either. It was just flat out weirdness.

My wife and I still talk about that place to this day. I have absolutely no explanation for what happened in that house and I'm not a paranormal kind of guy...but a haunting of some sort is about as close as I can get.

One of the weird things was that I kept seeing a black and tan tabby cat out of the corner of my eye. A few months later a neighbor told me that the previous owners had a cat matching that description that was hit by a car and killed in front of the house (They volunteered the info, I never told them what I saw). The woman who owned the cat was extremely distraught by the death of the cat and stopped coming out of the house for several months afterward. She eventually packed up and moved away without speaking to anyone.

The house was over 150 years old when we lived in it and by all accounts it had a long history of tragedy in the lives of the various owners and residents. We eventually found ourselves fighting with each other and became so stressed by what was happening in the place that the incident on the 3rd floor was the final straw. We left with 3 days notice and abandoned our security deposit to get out as fast as we could.

I originally linked the "like" button....for some reason it didn't work.

The idea being that when you clicked my link, you'd automatically like Stan's post and be taken to it.

Oh boy, it's gonna be a long night.

My brother-in-law who has late stage liver cancer was put to the top of the transplant list on Thursday after his tumors began to rapidly grow. They did the bone scan and blood work to be sure the cancer hadn't spread beyond the liver and told us to be on stand-by for a donor. They figured it would be a few weeks at best due to the lack of donors and 6 other hospitals with patients at the top of their lists but don't be more than 20 minutes from home ever during this time.

Well, I guess the 4th of July weekend creates the opportunity for donors because they called 35 minutes ago and said they have liver. My wife ran to get her brother and take him to the hospital for the transplant. They have 1 hour to get there and the surgery is an 18 hour procedure. I called his parents in Alabama and let them know while I stay here with my daughter and hold down the fort.

2 am on a Saturday night during the 4th of July weekend. I told my wife to be extra careful driving, watch for impaired drivers and if you get pulled over by the Police, don't mince words. Tell them exactly what's going on and let them know you have less than an hour to get to the hospital.

Fingers crossed for you, hope it goes well.

Story for you. Thirty years ago I got news my grandfather was in hospital and wouldn't make it through the night. It was 3pm. My daily was an old Valiant....I hammered this car up to the hospital 100 miles away at speeds regularly over 100mph. Slowed down for red lights, but didn't stop.

Years later I did the maths. I saved about fifteen minutes on the trip, but could have killed myself (and someone else).

The stupidity of youth.

Wife just called. They are at the hospital. Apparently the donor is still alive but failing fast. It could be a few hours but they are prepping her brother to be ready when the donor passes. It's a hard thing to be happy for him to have a shot at a longer life while knowing that someone else is losing theirs to make it possible.

It's hard to comprehend another family grieving as a loved one passes while this one is waiting for the gift of one of their organs.

At times like these, I like to inject a little humor.

You do realize at the end of all this your brother-in-law won't be worth as much? He'll no longer be numbers matching
