Stop in for a cup of coffee

so, engine has to come out again - still got an oil leak and I want to change the TC... I am seriously considering trying the lift car over the engine/k frame method..

other than the obvious usual disconnections and the torsion bars.. is there anything else I need to "worry" about - anyone ever done it?

Easy peasy. But yours is modded a bit, aint? any changes there to interfere with the lift off?

having done it both ways, trust me, top is easier.

Ben's done it that way...Ax him...
humm... yea, mine is modded "a bit".. I am thinking the headers are the biggest "issue"...
so traditional hoist out is easier? why? no steering hassles??
that's right, Ben even posted a pic of it last year... of course he had a fork lift...

so steering, torsion bars and exhaust...? (and all the "usual" stuff obviously)
Probably leave headers bolted to engine. Upper control arm (either bust the ball joint loose or unbolt at the bushings, I did ball joint). Speedo cable, drive shaft, trans cooling lines, Front brake lines, wiring, shifter. I left everything attached to the engine and trans. Really a quick job..

alternator, trans cross member/drive shaft/ebrake cable...mostly just looking for anything wider than inner fenders on top instead of under. Should be pretty near a straight drop out, so easy to spot any clearance problems.

well lets see,
out the top.

disconnect wiring
unhook fuel lines
drain and remove radiator
unbolt headers and remove from car
unbolt bellhousing bolts (you can either leve the converter bolted to the flexplate or un bolt it, it'll work either way)
unbolt motor mounts
lift motor just enough to clear mounts
pull motor forward to get off the convertr
lift motor out
drink beer

done in an hr or less.

out the bottom:

disconnect wiring
unhook fuel lines
drain and remove radiator
unbolt headers and remove from car
unbolt bellhousing bolts (you can either leve the converter bolted to the flexplate or un bolt it, it'll work either way)
unbolt the steering column
loosen torsion adjuster
remove torsion bars
remove UCAs or separate the ball joint
remove trans mount
unbolt K frame bolts
lower entire assembly

drink whiskey

done in 2 hours

I see your Alt still on. Pretty sure the slant was gonna hit.

Don't know about your times for either way. Maybe with a team of Minion mechanics helping.
I do know it was an easy 1 person job taking mine out the bottom and install back in. I was re-doing everything though. If you don't need to pull the trans and not working on suspension - might be better to do top pull.
