Well guys i thought i had it figured out ...
Bascially i am trying to convert my 1969 Swinger small bolt pattern front drum brakes to SMALL BOLT pattern front discs ... I was told that SSBC kit will clear inside of 14 inch small bolt pattern rims ... Apparently only if ralley wheel style .....
SO the only alternative would be to locate front spindles , hubs , backing plates , caliper mounting brackets ...
I can get new rotors , and rebuilt calipers ...
SO would anybody have the parts i need ... PLEASE NO JUNK .. Please be easy on me with price ...
Thanks FABO members !

If your rims are the oem 14 steel, I put a 1/2" of washers and my 14's still didn't clear the ssbc kelsey hayes style caliper. If you still want to use your original rims because they were painted I'd suggest another brand of disc conversion or go with 15" rims and have them painted to match your car. Or last ditch, power drums. The first rim pictured is the 14 from the inside, the last is the 15, see the difference.

During the past year i had three 100% complete rebuilt,Kelsey Hayes, 4 piston, disc brake set up's for sale here on this forum.
You asked questions about them, but for whatever your reasons, at the time, you didn't purchase any of them from me when i had them for sale.
Anyway, i am finishing up putting together another disc brake set up together from leftover parts that i had on hand from past rebuilds, and parts that i had to source the nation for, to buy.
Would you now be interested in this set up that i am finishing up?
Since i had to find, and buy, hubs, a gravel shield, then two new rotors, i'm into this set up a lot more money.
$850.00 for everything, + whatever the FEDEX people need to get for the shipping, insurance, and signature delivery fees, to go from the Sacramento, CA area, to your city.

Have the SSBC kit on the front of my 68 cuda, I'm running 14x6" sbp steel rims with 1/4" spacer plates from the speed shop and the rims clear the calipers, been driving the car two years with this setup with zero problems.

JTG, which kit in particular, Kelsey Hayes or single piston? Are your 14sbp original to your car? Curious as to how yours clear the calipers, different offset perhaps.

Hemi71X... i can get rotors , calipers , pads , hoses ... i APPRECIATE the offer at this time ...

Is there anybody on this site that has a blog on scarebird install?

Hi Dan, went with kit# W153 from SSBC, the center section of my rims are original but the surrounding rings are new ( brand new Kelsey Hayes rims were used ), this is allowed me to get sbp 14x6" on the front and sbp 14x8" on the rear. Not sure on the offset will need to get under the car and measure, my rims sit further out then factory, probably flush with the inner wheel well lip.
Upon the installion of the SSBC kit the brake lines going into the calipers required slight realignment to help clear the rims and a quarter inch wheel spacer on each side because the rims were just slightly making contact with the caliper housings. I've had zero problems once these minor corrections were made.

Sounds like the SSBC calipers are something to stay away from unless you have ralley wheels. I am so glad I hunted down and bought the real Kelsey Hayes stuff but now I am thinking I need to gather a spare set up for parts since reading another one of these threads.

Many are probably wondering, as I am, why are you so intent on keeping your existing wheels, to the point of changing the whole spindle assembly. Is it to keep a classic look? You can get 17" aluminum wheels in SBP now fairly affordably (see posts). That would be cheaper and simpler and would clear any calipers, so much that your brakes might look too small in there and people would make jokes that you are under-endowed.

Personally I am a purist and big wheels turn me off. Wider standard size wheels are what I grew up with in my youth.

Racerdan80 ... i was looking at your photo closer ... are your calipers 3 piston or 4 piston ... below is the setup i was going to use which is from SSBC .. but clearly a knock off from ORIGINAL KELSEY HAYES brakes ... I spoke to the guy at SSBC last week and he stated i could use my original wheels ... he also stated that they bought the original tooling from KH and this is why theres are close to factory ....

Product Features

  • Drum to disc brake conversion kit with 4-piston cast iron calipers; non-power. Bolts to stock drum brake spindle. For O.E. power or non-power cars.
  • All hardware included.
  • Includes master cylinder.
  • Master cylinder will bolt to firewall on O.E. non-power vehicles and to stock booster on O.E. power vehicles.

Racerdan80 ... this looks like the kit you purchased ... which shows caliper design slightly different which maybe contributing to wheel to caliper interference ....

Hi rrvolare, this is the same setup I put on my 68 cuda, like you I wanted to keep my SBP and also run the original 14" wheel covers, I used my original master cylinder, so I went with the W153 kit (I'm running power brakes) Keep in mind I didn't have my rims custom made to accommodate this conversion kit, just for the purpose of getting wider tires on the front and back.
The individual you talked to at SSBC should have been a bit more specific inregards to this kit working on 14" steel wheels. SSBC should state will work with 14" rims with some slight modifcations. Like I previously mentioned in my earlier post, I had to realign the small section of brake line going into the calipers and use 1/4" spacer plates on each side. Modifications I felt in my opinion were very minor and no big issue, unless of course your not a fan of spacer plates on the car.
Then I would suggest one of the following:
-14" rally rims which others on here suggest will work with no mods.
-15" rims then there should be zero issues
- Do not buy a SSBC conversion kit, source out one that is 100% guaranteed to require no modifications for your application.

JTG THANKS for your help ...
1. Did you have to install longer studs after installing 1/4 inch shims ?
2. Would you happen to have p/n for shims ?
3. IS there any vibration due to shim install ?
AGAIN THANKS !

Hi rrvolare, the SSBC discs come with studs, if memory serves me correct there a bit longer then OEM.
I don't have the part number on the spacers, I bought them at speed shop many years ago, I used the quarter inch thick ones.
I checked Summit and Jegs website and can't find a 5x4" wheel spacer, that still doesn't mean they don't have it, you will need to phone and verify. The only set I can find on Ebay similiar to ones on my car is item #110748815706, sorry not sure how to post the link.
My car has zero vibration whatsoever from 0-60, car is not geared for the highway, my top cruising speed is 60mph/100km.
What is the width & style of rim you plan to run on the front?
