Hello fellow wing nut!!!
Security Forces guy, I see. I'm not familiar with 722. Is that something in Admin?

I was stationed at RAF Greenham Common in missile radio and radio relay maintenance (304X4). Also stationed in Jacksonville Arkansas as an Officer Recruiter (8R000). I didn't go in until '84.

Yes, 722 was admin

Engineers lead the way “essayons”

Spent two years active duty in the Navy, aboard the destroyer USS Richard E. Kraus (1972-1974). Broke the 3-4 shift fork in my 65 Barracuda bar-hopping one last time before we set sail for Viet Nam in early November 1972; blew up the original 273 driving 200 miles from Charleston, South Carolina to home in second gear. Spent two months on the gun line off South Viet Nam, with a quick foray to targets in North Viet Nam that earned me a combat action ribbon. Found my thrill at the Hotel Kennedy in Kaohsiung, Taiwan after the shooting ended. Slapped a 340 in my Barracuda when I got back home; still have the car, still a 340 - different block, different heads, same crank.

Hope it didn't die on hwy 17 between Charleston and I95. Lonely stretch even 1983-87 when I was burning it up.

No, when a rod started knocking, I was on I-16 in middle Georgia, which back then at least was almost deserted. I was only 25 miles from home. I had left Charleston driving 30 mph, but that got boring real quick, so I kept speeding up. At the end, I was doing 60-65 in second gear. No cell phones then, and I was in the middle of nowhere, so I got off the interstate and headed for the nearest town. Knock got louder and louder, then BOOM, rod went out the side of the block. End of 273.

Funny. I know lonely ole I16 also. Hunted in Swainsboro for years. Small world.

Army 2006-2013, 11B / Infantry. 3rd U.S. Inf, Regt. The Old Guard. Was a Presidential Casket Bearer. Performed thousands (yes, thousands) of funerals in Arlington National Cemetery, and did missions for / with POTUS (Bush/Obama) all over the DC area. Got promoted to Sergeant after I re-enlisted, broke my back in a car crash and never got to my next duty station.

Pretty neat experience. Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff funeral, arrival ceremony at the Pentagon, and First Lady Betty Ford’s funeral. Proud to have been there.
