    My 422 smallblock build

Madhouse torque while retaining reasonable HP as has been demonstrated here and elsewhere before. This set up can also be found in the winner circle of various countrywide circle tracks. There is a lack of high performance dual plane intakes for the W2. The factory offering (on his engine) and...

    Big horsepower 318 builds

That’s pretty good. A bare edelbrock is $743 @ Summit racing. Considering the R/T can be ported past 300cfm, the only draw back is the weight. The pro is longevity of an iron head.

I've never played the game.... but many do

Depends on the crowd. In my early street racing days, liar, liar, rear tires on fire! Since I’m not street racing. Truth be told.

    Any street 440 build suggestions

That I did read and remember but it was the extra stall I mentioned for those that have an auto. Behind my 340 is a 904 w/a 3500 converter. (FWIW) I do like a third pedal better though.

    5.2/5.9 H.P build guesstimate

The MP crate engine, 360/380 hp is basically a stone stock long block with a Hyd roller cam of 230@050 on the intake and .513 lift. These engines dyno’d constantly over 400hp. Your cam choice will make more torque down low and give up some power up top. If your going to stay with your cam...

    Any street 440 build suggestions

That’s a really good street beast kind of cam. Obviously needing the proper stall and gears, I run one in my 340. I had Comp narrow up the LSA by 2*’s. On a he 440, that dual plane will be great. Pop an 800 cfm carb on top and call that good.

Can you show me this 500hp - 5.3 build? All you need to do is copy it as close as possible and exceed anywhere you can rather than fall just short.

    Big horsepower 318 builds

I was just thinking of a build like this when I wrote my reply above. (I had to stop for dinner) I hate to make it basic but it is simply put in simple terms of easy breathing in and out coupled with rpm. The LA is born limited with there heads which are just a passenger head. They only go so...

    Big horsepower 318 builds

In keeping with the NA…. Let’s compare flow numbers and port velocities. This is a camshaft related issue, not cylinder head. It is true. The better the cylinder head the better the power. A higher flowing cylinder head over stock allows more power and rpm. While the OEM - LA head gets buried...

    Big horsepower 318 builds

Oh that’ll getcha 350 ho right away. 400 hp is are ported iron or aluminum cylinder heads and a camshaft on top of it.

    intake and carb suggestions?

If a vintage Edelbrock or Weiand isn’t available, a RPM is the next little step upwards. They will work better with more than a stock camshaft, gear and stall. I like the 3310 - 750 Holley suggestion for the Holley camp. Edelbrock needs to make a 750 AVS II. IMO, the 650 AVS II is OK with Hwy...

    Sixpack on a 318 engine ?

Whoa! Verbal ❌!!! Bring back the red. X!
  15. rumblefish360

    Big horsepower 318 builds

Yes and no. It’s a lot of boost. Double the sea level psi into the engine and you now have twice the engine size. 5.3 turns into a 10.6. Now how hard is it to make power with an engine size that large? The OEM cylinder head for the early engines even ported is behind a modern LS. Sub it out for...

    Big horsepower 318 builds

LOL! Well, it ain’t too bad now. I’m just looking for the small increase in power & RPM. I’ll slide the heads on at a later date. I’ll hit the strip in a little while. I’d like to wire in some gauges first. Can change second, then head swap. Track times and a few “IMO” while hopefully adding in...

    Motor Trend Shows- Gone?

Exactly!!!!! I was working in a heavy overtime yard. This is basically what happened. I was working for a financial goal. I went out on an injury, broke a finger tip. When I seen the BS that was happening at home, I left the yard. The crew knew I was trying to pad the pension, they asked what...

    Motor Trend Shows- Gone?

Possibly. Not for nothin, but if my wife had to commute to Cali for work several times a year and I had to be Mr. Mom all alone, I’d be pissed myself. Which explains a lot of single mom’s attitude. I don’t and can’t blame them for that crap. On the flip side, if I had to do the type of...

    Big horsepower 318 builds

I’m stalled on them like all projects around here - LMAO - grooooooannnn - LOL They will be coupled with a small Howard’s cam. 220*’s@050 - 540 lift - 108/104 installed intake on a stock 5.9 short block with a RPM/750/Hooker 1–3/4 Super Comp headers - 2-1/2 exhaust. 2500 stall 727/3.55’s in a...

    Big horsepower 318 builds

The problem is finding R/T heads. You’d be lucky to find them to start with. I was with the above heads and traded a set of Edelbrock heads for them. This was the direction of the other guy and I have a curiosity about ‘em. The above are the 2.02/1.60 heads. They flowed pretty good for a OOTB...

Could be cheaper to produce and if it still does the job needed, they are just happy with that and will say, Just send it, your good to go.”

    Big horsepower 318 builds

...smaller than the books recommended size, this could be an issue above 6500. Spinning past 7K, I’d recommend going above and beyond the recommended modifications and address every passage in the block making it slightly larger, rounding corners instead of the 90* turns, bushing lifter bores, etc.
