all 3 of mine were driving as soon as they understood that you had to be able to stop on your own command. and it started early with the bikes, motor cycles and 4 wheelers. i believe that if you (parent) teach (child) at an impressionable age, so that if something bad happens, they never forget...

they were trying to place emphasis on the grill not the radiator support. some of the black out jobs were somewhat less than pretty and/or perfect. i must admit that it makes it alot easier to clean. but the emphasis should be on the grille! mho.
