    rings without pulling

Guys used to brag years ago about replacing a piston without pulliing the engine. As was said earlier it would be impossible to keep things clean and think about torqueing the mains and rods while lying on the floor. You would be having bearings slipping out, it would turn into a nightmare. MY...

    Whats a "U" head?

All x heads had 2.02 valves and none were ever factory installed on 360's. There were no factory 2.02 heads installed on 360's.

    Tap, tap, tap...?

An exhaust leak between head and manifold on a specific cyclinder can sound like a rocker or valve, even with a stethoscope. Pull the spark plug wires of on that bank, one at a time and see which cyclinder it is and check to see if there is exhaust leaking under that manafold port. That was...

Help!?! Just took apart my 360, and found bad things!

It appears that the pistons are positive decked from the one pic (also no lips in the jugs). This engine must have had some guts with those 2.02 valves and that high of a compression. I would bottle hone it, new rings and rod and mains, YOU CAN DO IT, torque wrench and plastigauge the hard work...

    340 heads

I believe 2.02 is as big as you can squeeze in there. Iwould never do it again, with the money I have in these X's I could have edelbrock.

    273 Hi-Comp Piston Deck Height

It really depends on what you call high compression. Some guys are at -0- deck, mine are at +.060 or out of the block flat tops. I haven't fired it yet to see if I need racing fuel with stock x-heads. My son in law runs domes with valve reliefs in his nova 12:1 and it is wicked. Depends on what...

    Piston question

Can someone please identify these pistons for me? I can't find any marks on them.

What condition is my condition in?

If your going to replace the rings you might as well replace the rod and main bearing when the rods are out. If you don't have a groove built up in the cyclinder at the top of piston travel, enough to catch a nail on, run with what you got for low budget!!!!!!!! Put it back together.

    360 Internal or External Balance??

Then I can safely say all small blocks are internally balanced fron the factory, excepting the 360 and cast crank 340's?

    360 Internal or External Balance??

Are you guys saying only forged cranks are internally balanced?

    360 Internal or External Balance??

Clarify this for me please? I thought 273, 318,340 were all internally balanced, but you guys say some 340's were externally balanced? Please claify if you can positively verify, Walt

    What is a good price?

Banjo. 360 are plentiful and better IMO. Post your location as some of the members have extra blocks laying around at a reasonable price.
  23. pagilman

    What is the Difference?

Yes the 360-4 was also used in the aspen and volare (roadrunner package). They had windage trays and big exhaust manifolds and low compression.

One book says 25 lbs and the other 30lbs. I started to torque the other side and with an 18 torque wrench I quit because I was afraid to break another. I am going to buy all new bolts and try 20lbs. Thanks men for your input. Walt:cheers:

    need advise bolt removable

:angry7:I was putting rocker shafts on a 340 and broke off the center pedistal bolt at 30lbs of torque. It broke off flush at the top of the threads and will be hard to work on. I plan on starting small and working up with the drill bits untill I can get an easyout in it, if they make one that...
