1964 Valiant "Get Runnin & Drivin"

The Viper Red is definitely a closer match to the safety red. But it's only available on bc/cc. In the end I guess that's an advantage because it will hold up better and be easier to correct mistakes. It's expensive compared to what I'm using at 193 bucks a gallon, but I know that's still cheap for automotive paint. I may go that route because I don't want all this work to be for nothing.
 
Dont forget the clear, thinners, and hardener for the BC/CC that will add another $100

I have about $150 in the paint on that Willys. Good bang for the buck.

Also the Summit 2K primer works really nice, it runs about $100 a gallon, with thinner.

Yup. That's what I'm talkin about. "All That's" puttin it further and further away from my budget.....BUT the good thing is I have plenty of time.
 
Got coat #2 on the inside of the trunk. More baby steps.

I bet most all of us interacting in this thread are like this, we want to preserve out cars, be good for them, and keep the costs somewhere in reason as to our individual budgets. I bet none of us are the types to sound off about how we have the $1000/gal paint job and how our chit is better than everyone else's chit!! We have all seen that!?
I still remember my Pontiac buddy, his cool collection of firebirds and goats, his trunk floors were preserved with used ATF!!! They did not rust! RRR's trunk is prettier though!!!

Part of this all is if we want the oem look of the 60s or the ultra shiney look of the bc/cc.
 
Thank yall for the kind words. Did a little more tonight. Got "the rest" of the Kilmat down. Probably end up gettin two more boxes for the rest of the trunk and the doors. Also got the fiberglass laid down in the beads in the trunk pan. I'll trim the fiberglass cloth away tomorrow, scuff it up a little and slob some more paint on it.

Here's some funnyness. Kitty and I were poking all the holes in the floorpan through, seats, seat belt bolt holes, gas pedal bolt holes. All of a sudden Kitty says "hay where's the hole for the passenger's side outside seat belt?" Yeah, you know it. Mr. Genius here forgot to put a hole in the new floorpan for it. So the new floorpan was coverin it up. LOL So out came the angle grinder with my cutoff wheel and instant hole. LOL So I DO make mistakes. LMAO The second picture is of the new seat belt hole.

We all have those moments, I had putting up a replacement ceiling fan about kick my butt hard today, had to go out to the store and get one screw that I thought I dropped, found it later in my pocket.

OMG. I did the same damn thing! And I even gave a friendly reminder. See post #107 in my build, Aw nevermind, haha. Hell I'll probably do it again one day. Lol

Not my favorite thing to do either. And of course when we moved out here in 2002, Kitty just "had to have" fans in most every room. Course when it's hot like now I'm glad we did it.
 
Well, I got the seat and all back in so I can at least drive it until I can afford the carpet sometime around the end of this month. Was gettin in the car to put the dome light back up and sat my fat *** on the dome light. no more dome light. So now I need a dome light assembly, socket and all. Preferably maybe with a little wiring harness comin off of it. I'm gonna put an ad in the wanted section. lol

if I am not mistaken, this is the standard round assembly and was used through 1976 in the A body...many 60's B bodies and don't forget the ole Dodge vans where you have two of these units often mounted...might help you expand you searching parameters....

Danged! So, exactly just how fat is your old ***!!????? !!! LOL If you had been me, I would have at on a $200 air of glasses! Exactly why i just wear them to watch TV and read!!!!!!

Well, it was hanging from the harness and out of the way until I went to sit down. Then it swung RIGHT where I was sitting. I sat down and it was RIGHT THERE. LOL

Not fun at all, where it was, my girlfriend, now wife moved in with me in 1997, and she had to re-do every room in the house. Added ceiling fans to every room.
The light took a crap in our bedroom, from her 8 yr old granddaughter basically pulling the light part of the cord too hard.
The sob is over our water bed, so no moving the bed, straddle the corner of the bed with a ladder, sit on top of the ladder, stretch and change the damn fan out.
With very poor lighting, and cant reach the other side of the fan to install the screws.
I hurt bad today at work.
If I ever have to change it again, I will borrow scaffolding from the maintenance department a work, where I actually have a chance to change it without hurting myself.

So true, I attempted to take the steering column out of a rust bucket cuda I have today.
Got 4 bolts out, and one screw. The pin in the steering column kicked me.
It is real rusty. But I got it moving, ordered a roll pin punch set, I will win.

That's my mindset with this Valiant project. "Somewhere" between 15 and 30 minutes at the time and that's it. Just chippin away man.

My wife is giving me total grief on this car, it has been sitting on my car trailer for over a year, I slowly take parts off, weather allowing, its a real sob, the frame rails and floor are gone, so you cannot even jack the car up, without it breaking apart some more in the firewall.
The only part not rusted out sheet metal wise is the roof, I really need the parts, and it off my trailer.
 
Been toiling with what to do next on the Valiant. So, I bit it off tonight. I went out and started removing the front windshield. There were a few swollen spots in the gasket at the top, indicating leaks. Also, when I rolled one of those spots back, rust would fall out. So, I knew it needed attention. Of course, 55 year old glass is fragile, needless to say. Yup, I cracked it. I kinda knew I would. It's just really difficult not to with one that's been in so long. Got it out and the pinch weld.....while has some damage, is not as bad as I thought. Extremely repairable. Pictures in a bit. I just hope a windshield isn't hard to find. lol
