1965 Dodge Dart Charger

-
He he ulf good work ever ever

at sweden any Dodge d 100 since 1965 my new project car :)))

Glad you got a new project Uli! Please show some pictures of it!

I was able to find NOS sockets last night incl all small parts for the inside trunk wiring!

Does any FABO member worldwide got an mint used or NOS wheel lug nut for Cragar S/S Wheels?

Got Ahold of a guy that will help me out with the right finish on the carburator. To me it looks a little too much grayish. It should be more super light greenish. But I will leave that to the carb finish guy. He has done finish on carburators for over 25 years!! He will probably have the right formula for it!

Thanks Leanna! I start to need it! It is just 8 month before the car should be ready for shipping!!!!!!

I was looking at the first picture of the engine and it looks like you are using a plastic fuel filter. I thought they were supposed to be metal. Just wondering.

Don! Those plastic fuel filter were mounted on the line. After x amount of miles the fuel filter was changed to the metal canister.

I have also heard that thay was changed when the car arrived at the dealership!

I'll get pictures when I found them.

Different fuel filters were sold over the years by Chrysler as service replacements, all under the one part number 2084 467. There have been all-plastic ones, all-metal ones, and plastic ones with a metal end cap. There have been numerous different styles of printing on the filters, too. FWIW, the factory parts catalogue shows an all-metal fuel filter, though this is not necessarily indicative of what was installed on any given car at any given plant on any given date -- FPC pictures are widely re-used without alteration from year to year and certainly would not have been changed just because the fuel filters Chrysler bought this month were a different style than the ones they bought last month. Doing a search at Atlas Chrysler's page for fuel filter turns up this result for '64-'66 A-bodies and this result for 1960-'63 A-bodies. I'm sure these filters look excellent, but I am not convinced by this page that all '64-'66 factory filters were metal; I have owned 1965-production plastic filters that look like Atlas' "1960-'63" item, but with different printing including the Pentastar logo rather than the Forward Look. Also, 1960 cars did not have fuel filters from the factory; that feature wasn't added until 1961.

It is extremely unlikely that factory-installed fuel filters were changed when the car arrived at the dealership. Also scroll back to post 1369 in this thread and take a look at that factory photo of a 273 engine, with its metal fuel filter clearly visible. Does that prove anything about this car from this plant on this build date? No, but it's a data point!

Thanks for the input Dan! This is the best picture I could get of the fuel filter. I know that within 1964 and 1965 Chrysler used fuel filter with part number 2525 254. The filter 2084 467 were used up to 1963 according to my parts book. Here is some pictures of test cars for the public aka magazines. They seems to have plastic filters. But looking closer it seems like they are more white than the one I have. Was there a lot of manufacturers for the fuel filters?

I guess that Chrysler did not drive around fuel filters nationwide! Instead they used different sourches. Must have been cheaper for the plants.

Last pictures is of a 1965 Hemi Coronet equipped with plastic fuel filters. Any one having Pictures of later Mopars with fuel filters. Can the filters plastic been switched over the years? I know from seeing late 1960is Mopars they have the see-through filter. It might have been a different whiter plastic used in 1964/1965!

Thanks for all the input FABO! I would not be here without all the help I have gotten over the years.

Yes, I have seen the plastic range from almost transparent to very milky-white.

TTBOMKAR, 2084 258 (thru '63) and 2525 254 ('64+) are only the filter itself, and 2084 467 (LONG year range!) is the filter packaged with two short pieces of fuel hose and four spring clamps. Filter inkstamped with one or another variant of
"FUEL FILTER 2525 254
FOR REPLACEMENT USE PART Nº. 2084 467".

Dan! Thank you for clearing up this case! I have seen those kits too but not make notice of the part number for the "kit"!

I will go ahead using my filter but I will start to search for the "milky" one too!

Found these pictures on Google! The first one from Dante's and the second one from Year One.

Interesting…I wonder how many genuine factory-made variants there are under just the three part numbers we're talking about, and how many additional variants caused by not-quite-correct reproduction efforts. It really seems random on a case-by-case basis, doesn't it, whether Chrysler kept one part number despite 25 variations in a part, or applied 25 different part numbers despite no variation in the part, or something in the middle.

Dan! Re the steel fuel filters I have seen three different printings. I have only seen one type with plastic body and steel hat! And never any plastic fuel filters at all.

Anyone out there that have seen any of these plastic fuel filters?

I bought my '65 (in 1992) from a guy who'd been a Chrysler dealer mechanic or parts counterman, I don't recall which, for many years. He included a bunch of spare parts, all NOS, and there were at least five different kinds of fuel filter: metal, plastic with metal cap, all plastic, and all with printing variations -- all under just two P/Ns, 2084 467 (kit) and 2525 254 (filter only). But at that time it didn't occur to me to photograph/catalogue them. :-(

Well, maybe next time!!

Today I stopped by at the paint man! They have made the last corrections on the body and will shoot the red primer on the spots and next week mask off the body and paint the green primer 22" inch high from bottom of body. Of cause they wanted me to be the one with a heat gun under the car after it is painted!!

They told me that the procedure after the body was dipped was to Owen bake the primer. That made the paint drops started to shrink! SO that will be my next job on the body.

I feel that this is getting out of control.....!! :banghead:

But when it's done and we can shoot the top paint it will be worth it! :glasses7:

Today I took of the rear outer bolts holding the bumper brackets. As you can see the brackets were silver zinc from factory. At least on my Los Angeles built car. The bolts were black phosphate and the orange thing I'm not sure what the name is.

Any FABO member out there having a clue??

After searching for NOS bumper brackets for years I just needed one of the front ones. After searching through my inventory I found a mint used one. After a good cleaning and some glass beading it was mint. I painted them with the correct black paint so now they are done. Check!

My seats are toasted. Totally! After I started I found out that my drivers seat had alot of California in it! I found two nests without honey!!!!

The seat knobs is another story. Where to find white pearl vinyl material for it?? I need it for the front seats and the rear seat, total of 8 small pieces.

The chrome is pretty ok but needs to be rechromed. I want it 100%. The hinge bolt is chrome too so I will check into them too.

I know that seat foam can be bought from several sources but what about seat foam for rear seat??

If some one needs front seat foam my old one is for free!! LOL!

Will Legendary Interiors sell you a piece pearl white vinyl? I believe there is a company called SMS who sells obsolete material also.

In post 1842 is the orange thing a washer with some kind of sealer on it?

I enjoy watching your progress.

Hi Dallas! The washer is actually seam sealer that goes between the washer on the bolt and the body! See picture!

Tonight I disassembled the front seat! It was funny because I could notbelieve that it was so many codes, stamps etc!

Backseat has it's own partnumber and date code tag. Built January 4,1965 and the seatspring are madein December 7, 1964. The seat foam was ink stamped with Chrysler Corporation and the partnumber.

The fabrics are stamped with TEX and 11 64. I'm not sure what TEX stands for but 11 64 stands for November 1964.

Now the seat springs are ready for some serious glass beading and a shot of black paint.

I see. The 'washer' is actually the sealer itself. Thanks for clarifying. I'm not too familiar with the pre-'67 a-bodies, but thanks to your thread I'm learning a lot!

So, are you going to duplicate all of the hidden ink stamps on the foam and seat material, too?

Dallas

I'm not sure yet about the stamps. I will order the seat foam from Legendary and take it from there. I'm not sure if there are any more vendors making seat foam for early A bodies?
