1972 Dodge Colt

-
Sorry guys, not trying to extend the suspense, but as Bill says, I only do one pace, and it's slow.
Under the weather today, a cold I guess.
I painted the Damper outer ring.
I have been told that the chrome damper is hard to see with a timing light.
Sealed the fuel pump blockoff plate.
Painted the dip stick tube and timing tab.
Fuel system set up to purge, maybe tomorrow.
Kota inspected the Damper, he said it smelled funny.

Slow and steady wins the race! Looking fantastic!

Fuel system issues.
The regulator I bought for the Weber carbs could not control the fuel pressure.
I disassembled the fuel pump to make sure the bypass valve was ok.
Everything there looked good, not stuck or binding.
So I have ordered a Holley unit with the gage port.
Of course the one with the gage port is in GA.
Should be here in a couple of days.
I will work on a couple of the extra hood dzus fasteners while I wait.

Well it been a long trip and not done yet, but this has to be one of the highlights.
First Crank.

The engine in the Colt has not run in about 13 years.
Last time I took the Barracuda out to Mason Dixon it got rained out.
Long tow but no runs.
I took it out of the Barracuda, sold the head and packed with grease.
It has been sitting since then.

Spent last week half sick and half working on fuel issues.
My old blue pump could not be regulated, it would peg my 15 PSI gage.
Neither my Redline or Holley regulator would calm it down.
I purchased a Holley Red pump and then could not get that through the Holley regulator.
After checking a bunch of stuff I just bypassed the regulator and then set the float levels.
After crossing my fingers I hit the bump button and no kidding, started right away.
No moving the distributor, no fiddling, she just lit off.
Good oil pressure, tach seemed to be right, everything was go.
Never had an engine in 50 plus years do that.
I have a few things to check over tomorrow and just make sure all the rockers are happy.

I spoke with Holley on the phone, not a lot of help.
They have a rebuild kit for my blue if there is a gooned up spring. (Don't think so).
Their regulator should be able to turn a Blue pump down. (It won't) (He said, send it back).
Red pump should work through their regulator (It won't).
Maybe it is bad. (Don't think so).
But I will send it back anyway.

And don't even get me talking about Summit.
I am glad they are local to me, but, tech service and online ordering need major work.

That sounds awesome! Here's you some more inspiration. lol

Rusty, I was going to do a Commando tip on the Lancer wagon, but I didn't.
Glad you did, I really like that!

Thanks! I like it too. It's not really a Commando tip, but it's the closest I could find.

Still herding cats.
For every step forward, seems I get another setback.
This weekend I cut the front motor plate for a water pump.
Installed a radiator overflow can.
Also mounted a Moroso water pump drive system.
I bought the system from Amazon and saved about 50 from the Summit price.
Found a lower hose that will work and I am about half way on the top hose.
Top fitting on this rad is on the wrong side for a slant.

Then on Saturday I had a guy over buying some heads.
When he got here I kept hearing a hissing, like an air compressor.
I walked on the passenger side of the Colt and damn if that tube has gone bad!
Same as the one that went bad last year.
That was a solid kick in the shorts.
Tonight I pulled the tube, sure enough the stem was half way detached.
I will call hoosier tomorrow and try to get an answer from their experts.

Stan, I had the same issue with my Hoosier tubes. No matter how I orientated the stem in the wheel the stem would still detach from the tube. Just decided to run my Hoosier slicks without the tube. Just coat the inside of the slick with some dawn dishwashing liquid and that prevents leakage.
