65 Dart Wagon Conversion to a Sedan Delivery

-
My youngest son stopped by to shoot the **** and of course the topic was the wagon and 47. He didn’t know that I bought a 318 stroker crank kit for the motor we went to MD to pick up. Told him the crank and an overbore on the 318 would yield 390 cubes. He knew that the dual quad D66 was for that motor since we picked it up as the same time as the motor. He figured it was for the 47. Then I showed him the triple SU intake and the picture of the triple SU manifold and carbs.

He thought for a moment and said that i need to put the slant with the SUs in the 47, scrap the idea of the 273/235 in the 65 and go with the stroker dual quad 318 instead.

Interesting idea! For those of you following this thread, what say you?
Go with the stroker! Super cool!

So I got to thinking - the 42RH I have for the Dart could still be used with the 318/390 and possibly with my rebuilt PB booster but not my rebuilt AC compressor. I could still use my just rebuilt 64 904 with the adapter I have that mates a slant to LA V8 904. Nice to have options

EDIT: I forgot to mention he also said use the Triple SU/slant in the Dart and keep the 318 for the 47 since it was a street rod

I had the spare tire cover open to investigate whether I could use some kind of hydraulic lifts like I did with the hood. I probably can if I can find a short lift for a lightweight application since the spare tire cover is not that heavy, even with carpet on it.

I also wanted to confirm that the spare tire - a 215x70 on an old 14 inch Magnum road wheel - was gonna fit the spare tire well. The measurements said it would fit although it would be tight. And bingo - it fit with some room to spare side to side and with the spare time floor cover lowered.

Looks great Don:thumbsup:

I can imagine all the room left over with a 6.50 or 7.00x13 bias ply OEM tire. Wanted to ensure I had a spare tire matching the size of the ones on the car

I kept looking at the much modified console cover with the Ram cupholder and I just didnt like the look. So over the course of several weeks I found an original, unmodified 66 B Body console top, reproduction console aluminum trim and some sheet metal I had laying around and went to work. First construct the bracket that supports the cupholder and install to the cupholder

IMG_7522.jpeg

Then, to hide the mounting bolts, construct a top that will house some toggle switches for future use

IMG_7524.jpeg

I had some blue vinyl left over from redoing some Charger seats. I used it to begin covering the assembly

With the finished results

Then to mask the console cover to paint the black

IMG_7542.jpeg

After adding the new aluminum trim, mounting the finished cupholder to the cover

The overall “look” is much better than my previous look

That looks absolutly great Don! Do you have 65 bicket seats up front? That armrest/cupholder will be great to lean towards.

Thanks! No 65 seats; i have a complete light metallic blue 66 Barracuda interior - front buckets and rear fold down seat. I have the front half of a 66 Charger console with dark blue armrest to match the cupholder assembly at the front. You’re right - that armrest will be perfect to lean on

I tore apart the rear half of the console with the armrest, the cushion itself is in great shape since it’s just an armrest.

The bracket itself was filthy - the chrome pretty dirty. Not much I can do about the speckling on the chrome. I spent a ciuple of hours with some polish so it’s halfway presentable now

A previous owner likely broken one of the built in mounting pegs for the latch and substituted a #6 peg Seen on the right side of the latch

I believe if I get a #6 flathead machine bolt abd countersink the head in the bracket and possibly epoxy it in place, the new repro aluminum trim that covers that area ought to leave no trace to the repair

Great work Don! How to fix it to the floor tunnel?

I welded front and rear brackets to the tunnel before installing the carpet. So if need be the console base can be removed. I hope it doesn’t come to that as wiring for the console lights, the power window switch, heated seat switches and the Dakota Digital PAC1300 accessories module is all under the console top and would need to be removed relocated in order to remove the bottom!

I’ve also got 2 ON/OFF switches installed with pigtails available for whatever purpose I might need. One of them I’ve decided to control the rear cargo lights; the other one I was thinking of a anti-theft switch but then again, that probably needs to be hidden out of sight somewhere. Any thoughts on what to use the 2nd switch for? How about the middle empty slot - some kind of warning light!

Second pictail for rear foglights under the bumper. Third (the hole) for hazard warning light.

I’ll take the fog lights under consideration but have never seen them on s US car in the back. Maybe that was a European thing? My tilt column will operate the hazards with the indicators for the turn signals flashing as hazards. I’ll keep exploring the possibilities
