74 power wagon dream truck...

Well I've spent the last near month just not logging in and lurking on the Forum like 90% of the people who frequent the forum because they don't want to get involved in the petty arguments... Unfortunately this doesn't allow me to block out the 40 plus people that I have on ignore..
now if I could just figure out how to block out 90% of the monitors... (Basically not tool Man Mike)
I'll continue to post pictures of progress but it's going to be at least a week at this point..
And I'll just stay logged in so I don't have to see any of it...
 
I got the cab completely pick apart and ready for sandblasting now. I do have a budget for it but no time to get it in this week. I'm hoping early next week I can get all the sandblasting done just the cab the doors the door hinges and maybe the floor hump a little bit.. get it back home weld in the floorboards and any other holes and also the heater opening on the firewall. I plan on doing an aftermarket heater that's all inboard..
Then I plan on rattle canning epoxy paint the whole bottom so I can do my own touch up as the years pass...
After that save for body work and paint..
 
I was able to squeeze in a little time this morning to bring the cab and doors to a couple of sandblasters to get a quote and check out there operation.. looks like about $500.. and drop off in the morning and pick up that afternoon..
It will have to wait until next week..
@halfafish keep the pedal to the metal and don't look back or you're going to see a green Power Wagon coming up fast.. LOL.. :poke:...

No.. and that's not literally blasting the entire cab and the entire doors...
That's blasting the entire bottom of the cab about 80% of the inner floor around the window openings and a couple other small spots. And just the bottoms of the doors and any other little rust spots. Part of the tunnel that I'm going to give them and all four door hinges.. I want to see what's left so I can weld in the floorboards and patch any other places that need it. I'm going to drop it off and pick it up on a nice warm sunny day and put it back in my garage. I'll probably buy a few cans of a two-part primer and hit around the window edges and places I'm not going to be welding and then try and give it a light dusting on those areas...
I'm not concerned about flash rusting if that's where you're going..
I'll be trying to save for the body and paint work ASAP..

I think for like $79 you can get a kit on Amazon that has the remote and everything to make it work. I would think this would remove the need for locks and so forth?..
 
They can be cool, but I've seen a LOT and I mean a lot of them give trouble.
 
I got a can of two-part primer that you have to punch the bottom of the can. I guess I'll give a light coat of that around the windows and places I won't be doing any work.. I ordered a can of the Eastwood internal frame rust spray.. I want to spray that inside the rockers and the inside of the doors at the bottoms if possible.. and then I ordered a six pack of cans of vth epoxy gloss white for painting the bottom of the truck after I get the floorboards welded and any patchwork done..

They missed a couple spots, so I'm taking it back next Monday morning to have them touch up some spots...
I'll probably wipe off a lot of it tomorrow with mineral spirits and use that can of two part epoxy primer underneath the doors and around the windows..
To hot today..
 
Did you not want them to take the whole cab to metal?
Looks like a cheesy sandblast job to me.

I did not want the whole cab to metal..
There is a lot of the cab that has good paint and I don't want to have to cover (epoxy primer) more area then I have to..
It may be some time before I can afford body work and paint...
Just the rust and crevices (hard to reach areas)..

Remember I don't have a spray gun at home and away to mix epoxy two part. I have to buy the $21 to $28 rattle can two-part epoxy to give it a quick cover up to buy time... If I have the whole thing blasted to metal I would have to take it to somebody and just have it epoxy coated... This way I can buy two three cans and get it the spots covered and have it ready for paint..
 
Time to go to harbor freight and buy a gun.
The green suction cup ones with the 1.7 tip make an excellent primer gun, and they are low pressure, so hardly any overspary.
