Dartin for Divorce

-
It's crazy how big this trunk is... (yes I know I need to make one of those floor mats)

Drove it to sams club to pick some things up and check the kd shift points. When I parked an older gentleman walked up to me with his wife and started checking out the car. As they were walking up I could hear him telling his wife "look its a 69 dart." We chatted for about 10 minutes, he said he has a 69 road runner, a 68 barracuda and a 69 dart. He was also asking me if I ever go to the car get togethers. Apparently there is one every Friday night at dairy queen not terribly far from where I live. Im going to go to it tomorrow with the kids.

We renamed the purple car Penelope... :D Today I got home and re-adjusted the front band. Tightened it all the way finger snug, backed it off 2 revolutions, then secured it down. Reset the kd linkage and took Penelope out. Wow felt like I have a rebuilt transmission with a shift kit in the car... I didnt drive WOT, just cruised the neighborhood because I had company in the car. Shifts were crisp, and had a little bite to them.

I wasn't the only one who enjoyed the drive.

Well I still have a touch of "flare" on my 2-3rd upshot under WOT, not anywhere close to what it had before but still a touch. Looks like I'll be dropping the pan at some point to up the internal pressure.

Otherwise we are happy campers. We drove to get some cinnamon rolls at the store this morning, have some briskets on the smoker and did some much needed car washes. Mommas car even got a car wash.

I really can't wait to get this thing a proper paint job... considering how good it looks now, although not perfect, the car will look amazing with a Good paint job.

Drove the car to school today, not even a hiccup on the drive here.

The speedo said I was going 70mph, but that thing bounces all over every time you hit any sort of bump so I dont know how much I trust it. Temp guage never got over 180 degrees on the drive either.

I really should invest in an alignment for the car. It really hasn't been driven but only a couple minutes from the house, on the freeway you could definitely feel how out of alignment it was.

I got a bunch of :thumbsup:on the freeway which is always cool. My wife also got me this nifty cup holder for my birthday and it worked pretty well.

Oh, and my carb seems to be slightly sticking open a little bit. I've tried different springs but I feel like none of them are really worked all that well.

I've run into the same issue - my cable can sometimes be a bit sticky. I did what I could to lube it a bit and it seemed to help a ton.
Does your kickdown cable have a spring on it at the transmission?

Not at the transmission, I thought I've read that the spring st the trans could actually be a bad thing?

Not sure when it comes to the lokar setup. The stock rod setup has a slot which prevents the kickdown linkage from causing a bind at idle - how does the lokar setup deal with that? Does the lokar cable just go slack at the carb, or does the connector have some slack?

Mancini has some choices for stock-style or aftermarket return springs (you'll want dual springs if you ever want to try making a pass down the track): Mancini Racing Throttle Return Kit

@Phreakish yes the kd cable goes slack at the carb. Ive tried numerous springs, and always have had 2 springs on it. I even cut the springs to be a touch shorter hoping that would help.

That's odd. The only other thing I could suggest is to check the torque of the carb base nuts. It's not hard to warp a carburetor base by over-tightening. When warped, it can cause a bind on the throttle shaft sometimes.

Yep, I need to get the throttle to stop sticking and yep I need an alignment. When I hit 75mph (on my speedo) the car slightly shakes.

I do have good torque on the freeway, 3k rpms at 70mph and I can give it gas and the car really wants to go. The car is loud, a little drone on the freeway nothing a little louder music volume can't solve though... I want to video tape it and hear how it sounds while driving...

Well it was definitely one of those weekends... I had my birthday on Friday, woohoo 31 years old. Then right before I was coming home I got a call from the wife saying something was wrong with one of our dogs mouth. It was all swollen and there was a large lump in the back of his mouth, took him to the vet and the vet believes he may have a tumor.

I check our dogs teeth all the time, and didn't see anything last time I checked them about 1-2weeks ago. So this is definitely relatively new. He has been having a hard time eating and its been bleeding a lot the past couple of days. The vet took a biopsy of it and will let us know the results in a couple of days, if it is a tumor we will probably have to put him down. Surgery is an option but the tumor is large and in the back of his mouth, the vet said he wouldn't be able to get it all out even if they did do a surgery. If they did the surgery it would still only give him another 1-1.5yrs and his quality of life wouldn't be that great because how much of his jaw they would have to remove... We've had him for almost 8 years and he is really the best dog in the world, great with our kids and wouldn't hurt a fly.

Sorry for the long post, just needed to vent.

That sucks. Critters are just like kids except they have lots of hair. It's a heartbreaker when nasty stuff happens to them. :(

SO sorry for your dog. Right now, all we have are cats, but we've raised mini pins before years ago. They really become part of the family.

On your band adjustment.......you're doin it wrong. lol The proper method is tighten it down TIGHT with a small wrench. 5/16" I think it is. I believe the book spec is in inch pounds.....but I remember working it out and it was 8 foot pounds. That's good and tight with a short wrench. The reason for that is to get ALL the slack out of the band before making the adjustment......so you might be ending up a little loose. So tighten it down GOOD with a small wrench and make the 2 turns out. Or 1.5 or whatever you do. I always go 2. Just some FYI.

Belated birthday wishes to you.
Very sad news about your pup. I know too well how much they are a family member, and the pain of losing one. I will pray for a good result on the biopsy.
One of my pups is going to have a small tumor removed from his hind foot this morning. Vet has told us that it's likely to be cancer, but we'll have to wait for the biopsy as well.

Man that sucks. I put my 4 legged baby girl to sleep in May of this year. I'm still not over it. I had her 18 years. Do what's best for your critter. If you think you're doing the right thing by putting him down because if quality of life issues and such , then your making the right choice. They will be waiting for you when you pass on. It will be the best reunion ever.

Holy belated bday and bummer news about the dog. I’ve got 3 that are getting older, tough decisions to be made but quality of life is important.

Good to see progress with the car.
Hope the pup doesent have to leave so soon.
We put our lab down in jan, 15 years with her. I will always miss her. Was a good dog.

i bought the 5/16” square adapter so i could do the 72 inch lbs on the band. I prefer actual torque over guesstimating.

18 and 15yrs is a long time, we thought we would get 12-15 with our pup as his breed usually lives a little longer. We adopted him when he was 6 months old, doesn't have a bad bone in his body. 3 kids use him as a stool, chair, ladder, pony, chew toy and he just lays there letting them do what ever and gives them big kisses. Follows them around the house and wants to cuddle all day long. Perfect dog and perfect friend of the family.

Yea the 5/16 sockets or wrenches i have dont fit, I need the square adapter.

72 inch pounds is 6ft pounds. I was going to do it with the tq wrench, but not having a socket or wrench that fit make it a little bit harder lol.

I don't know why 8 stuck out in my mind. My bad. I do know with a small wrench, it's pretty tight. Good luck with it. It sounds like you're closin in.

We had sibling cats that we helped mama cat deliver back in 1999. She had more, but we adopted out all but two of that litter. It's funny, these two attached themselves to me, the male cat and Kitty his sister. Cats don't always bond, but these two did. My boy cat lived until 2015 at 16 and his sister lived until 2015 at 18. That's a long time for any small animal, much less a cat. I have one now, my Baby Pink Nose, that's totally attached to me. Follows me everywhere. Sleeps on my side of the bed, AWAY from Kitty. lol I'll probably be a basket case when she goes. She has a ways to go, hopefully, as she's six now.

Yea I thought it was 7-8 as well, then I looked up a calculator to convert it. Because @Tooljunkie said for me to be more exact instead of guestimating lol.
