Q series 650 mech secondary with airbleed modified
they also recomend a vac Dizzy, said the pro-billet i have does not match my cam specs.
according to them i will not be able to get the right tunning with what i have.
i have been getting so many different sugestions i honestly dont know what direction to go.

This is one of the most retarded things I have read in a long time....Your MSD distributor is a VERY nice piece and VERY tune-able....spending money on a new DOWN grade is ludicrous. Let me guess, the person you were talking to was willing to rob you...I mean, sell you this down grade right?

650 carb on a big block...awesome.....For what its worth, my old mild 360 combo picked up 3 tenths and 3 MPH when I switched from a 650dp to a 750dp (Proform main body swap)....and you will be feeding more cubes....

Slap your borrowed 750 carb on, set your timing and go test it :violent1:

You should send a pm to crackedback, listen and learn. He is very skilled, he will not steer you in wrong direction. I have an old holley 750 in pieces you can have if you pay the shipping, then have it built for what you need.

I still can't get over the bit about swapping out a pro billet for a vacum dizzy...

That guy at 4 seconds flat still swears by racer brown cams and says they are better than any roller on the market.

Well, I have a vacum MP perf dizzy i'll swap you even for....

Have it shipped to me and I will rebuild it and set up for you for free and even pay for the shipping to you.

OMG!! saying your dizzy doesn`t match your cam is as stupid as saying your muffler bearings are throwing your air/fuel ratio off!!! I run a stock MP distributer and just had it recurved with heavier springs. I had an eratic idle problem and found the light springs that came in it were advancing the timing at idle. I also switched from a 650DP to a 750DP and added a Proform main body and picked up ET and that is on a little 340.

I had issues with that too. It surged at idle if the idel wwas set too low. It ended up beign an issue with the dist timing. It also advanced way too fast for the street. I had the vac disconected. Much happier with my pro billet.

I run a 950 proform. I've had great luck with it.

BTW if anyone needs a distributer recurved my buddy has an old Allen machine in his garage and can setup whatever curve you want reasonably.

Cover the fundamentals before throwing parts at it. Assuming it runs clean without missing or popping...

Compression and leak down test?

Valve train right if adjustable rockers?

Dist curve correct?

Plus/wires/dist cap and rotor all good?

Cam in at the right CL?

Is the carb getting full throttle????

Exhaust system a cork??

With that MPH, I doubt if it's spinning the tires, just is down on power. So find it...that combo should be in the mid 12's easy peasy.

My stock 72 340 duster runs 9.10 in the 1/8 2.0 60 ft with 3.55s and 8 in slicks sounds like your converter if its not spinning.

How much does your Duster weigh? Let me tell you how radical my street legal 1965 Valiant 273 small block (2980 pounds) was to get a best ET of 12.72 at over 108 MPH:
10" M & H Slicks (29" tall with 10 lbs air pressure)
Super Stock leaf springs, pinion snubber, frame connectors
Cyclone fenderwell headers (not equal length)
4.56 rear end
4 speed (launch and powershifted @ 6000 rpm, 6400 traps rpm)
.580 lift 312 degree solid lifter camshaft (Isky at the time)
10:5 compression pistons (balanced and blueprinted stock block bored .060 over to 282 CiID)
Stock cylinder heads "ported and polished" with a Dremel tool on the kitchen table.
600 CFM Holley Double Pumper on Tarantula Manifold
electric fuel pump, trunk mounted battery, fuel cool can (for ice), no power accessories
Your big block should be able to match this performance if it is modified in a similar fashion but I believe you have a long way to go still. Have a blast and let me know when you break into the twelves!

Nice numbers,old school!

another post bites the dust
-I had a pure stock, nearly right off the showroom floor,1970 Swinger 340 that went 14.4@98 mph on E70-14 belted tires with 3.55s. THe year was 1971. I was 18,single and 145 lbs. Those were the days. I paid $2400 Canadian for it in the fall of 1970. It had 11000 miles on it. Yup.

I read this whole thread....and I deduce:

Get rid of the 4160 Holley......get a 4150...and Open 1" Spacer.

4777-2, or 4779

650 DP/750 DP

Change over to 275' Drag Radials...and footbrake to 2800

Ensure WOT actuation via Gas Pedal/Carb......

Use 91/93 Octane with 38* advance

SHOULD RUN like this:

Carb should help a bunch. Get as much initial timing as it will stand and make sure it doesn't over advance. 280 is a pretty big cam for a fairly stock 383. Work that suspension or get slicks for the 60ft. Stock stuff can work if set properly. Did you see the Hemi Super Bee on red line bias ply?

this really cracks me up.ask for help, gets all the help he needs.and not a word on what happened.why even post
