Guns, Dogs and Blades QnA

Checked one off the bucket list this week. I’ve always wanted an Sig P210 since I lived in Switzerland 30 years ago and had the opportunity to shoot a real military version. It was the Swiss army service pistol and is highly regarded. They have a reputation of being the most accurate 9 mm pistol available. In the states, the real ones would go between three to $5000. Couple years ago, Sig introduced a civilian version of it, and I thought that I might finally be able to fulfill the dream . I wandered the local gun shop this week and they had a P210 Target in the used gun cabinet with a decent price on it. I asked him if they had any room on the price and my surprise took a couple hundred dollars off. The pistol is used but you can’t tell it. There’s no rub marks on the breech face and it is in perfect condition and came with four mags and the original box. I got it for half of what a new one sells for. The two stage trigger is excellent to say the least, and I am looking forward to putting a lot around of rounds through it.
The frosting on top is a used 50th anniversary Ruger 10/22 Sporter with a nice clean walnut stock. I’ve never had a 10/22 but I’ve always been at the belief that everyone should own one at some point in their life since it is very ubiquitous. I’m trying to avoid the temptation to replace everything with aftermarket parts. I think I’m going to keep this one in original condition and build a heavy barrel target/plinker with aftermarket parts for use with my new Mask silencer.

That is some vintage excellence right there. While I get accused of being a SIG snob on occasion. They are just fundamentally hard to beat. One of my students borrowed one of my SIG legions for the class yesterday. He fell in love with it and tried desperately to purchase it. Just a beautiful pistol you found right there. Hats off to ya!

Well the dust has settled after a teaching whirlwind. Time to get back to my “muzzle loader” I needed to mount a scope on it and extend the stock. I fully realize we all mount scopes differently but one thing I think we can all agree on is ya gotta have a couple of levels. I start by leveling the rifle in my rifle vise. I put a level across the receiver at a flat spot, then I clamp a level on the barrel as I will need to remove level on receiver to make room for scope. I then install the rings and set scope with eye relief adjusted but the rings are still just loose enough I can rotate the scope. I then verify via the clamped on barrel level that the rifle is still level then I place my small level on scope, typically on the vertical adjustment turret without cover cap. Then keeping an eye on barrel level I rotate scope until both levels match. Then I finish tightening down the scope rings in an x pattern. That is the short version! I used a piece of scrap Delron to extend the stock. Nothing fancy there, trace the butt, cut out with jig saw, sand the crap out of it to fit stock then layout the two holes for the newly acquired longer screws! My new Ruger American 350 Legend is now ready for alternate gun season, ie straight wall cartridge.

So you're saying you need 2 bottles?
LMAO,
this little pup is the ultimate in guerrilla warfare fighter. Although she no longer fits under the couch, silently waiting for an ambush opportunity on her sister she is still sneaky. Sister looks away and bam it is on! Being she is Shepard and big Sis is a typical built like a cheetah Mal I think the size advantage is going to be gone in the next thirty days or so. The Mal just runs the pup to death so no fear of a heavy Shepard! She gets faster and bigger everyday. I swear I can see her taller each morning. But man does she have the I will not quit mindset of a Shepard. The Mal is needing to escalate the retaliation dramatically to shut down the pup. I know it will work itself out for pecking order but I fear it is going to involve some stitches.

I know some of you won't be able to see this...

Made me laugh

Came home years ago to strange noises upstairs. What I found was my Beagle had gotten into a box of crackers and got the box stuck on her head. She was running around, bashing into things and utterly clueless what to do! It was a good laugh!!

As a Hunters Education Instructor I get a very detailed injury accident report summary for our State prior to hunting season. In this way, we as Instructors know what to focus on in our classes. Once again last year, like the year before, falling from tree stands is the hands down winner. Average drop was 15.7 ft. We had a total of 19 injury accidents last year during hunting season. A whopping 14 of the 19 were falling from tree stands. And yep, in almost every single case the hunter was not wearing his safety harness. The majority of the rest were duck and bird hunting related. Be smart out there guys, we ain’t getting no younger and we darn sure don’t bounce like we used to!

Cleaning out the fridge getting ready for Deer season. I pre make a bunch of taco meat and ziplock it in batch sizes then freeze. I get a hankering for tacos boom pull it out of the freezer and I am done! I also preblend my own taco seasoning to add to the burger. Here is a great tried and true seasoning recipe. No one has any idea they are having deer tacos!
N Joy!

We put pre-made venison burritos on the truck defroster while road hunting. Helps to have a V-10 lol. Heats them up pretty good.

@Sublime one : I do pretty much the same but I season it and can it. Real easy to make a meal that way!!
That makes sense, we can all kind of meats, from fish to beef. Simply never even thought about canning our taco meat? This thread rocks! You just never know what you can learn! I can see it now Guns Dogs Blades and culinary secrets! Hah!

Made some good progress on the new hunting shack yesterday. A lot of work but should be worth it in the end. Wanted to get the roof on too but the wind told me otherwise!!

@Sublime one : This is a short distance shack. More for bow hunting but will bring the firearm along in season too. Property line is about 60 yards from the shack. Water hole is 30 yards from the shack.

30-60 yards is the perfect pistol shot! My go to is an old Ruger single action Super Blackhawk 44. We are in bow season right now. Alternate (muzzle loader) does not start for a couple of weeks yet. Bow season is hard work! Our boys all use cross bows. While I fully understand the efficiency and effectiveness of the cross bow. To me bow hunting still means a traditional bow. Ie: no wheels! But man are those compounds nasty!
